I had this done recently. May 21st, the doctor did C³-C⁵ and three weeks later, the severe pain was back right arm. On October 8th, I had this surgery again in which C⁶-C⁷ was done this time. I pray this behind me after the recovery time. Thanks for the video and information provided explaining the entire procedure.
This is my surgeonnnn! Thank you Dr Khan for your excellent care and skills. Best decision I made was to have this surgery and you as my surgeon. I feel great since my surgery with you a year and a half ago! Pay attention people- this is your guy 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Having this surgery tommorrow. Nice to see ehatbgoes on. Thank you. Im walking but not very well. Hoping this helps. Then L4-l-5 will get done arge bone spur on L5.
Excellent explanation - my question is as follows - if the nerve is pinched on both sides, for two disks (say c5/c6 and c6/c7) does that two fusions on each side, so four of the procedures you show in the video? Or can you address each side with the one surgery in each level?
Thank you for your question. Removing two discs at C5/6 and C6/7 allows the surgeon to decompress a total of four nerves (right C6, C7 plus left C6, C7). This will be considered a two-level fusion (since two discs are removed).
The patient doesn't need to wear a hard collar during recovery? You use fluoroscopy during surgery to see what is going on? (not ultrasound or indoscopy?). I am heartened by your remarks of an easy recovery. I will probably need this surgery.
Had ACDF surgery in my neck and worst decision ever. I had serious complications and became paralyzed and had to have an emergency surgery then went into a coma. I feel the surgeon made a mistake by fusing two joints in lieu of one. Now I can’t work and am in constant pain. He said I wasn’t a candidate for artificial disc, which made no sense to me.
Subbed. I'm having Anterior cervical decompression/discectomy and fusion with anterior cervical plate instrumentation at the level of C5/6 and C6/7 in Jan. 2025. How long to wear the collar? Thank you.
3:40 Donor cadaver bone. Other videos I've seen on this use a metal cage. Is this a different type of procedure or a different methodology of the same "repair". Also wondering, if something traumatic happened such as a car accident before this is fully healed, how much more prone is one to having a major injury?
I use cadaver bone (allograft), which is what most spine surgeons use. Some use a "cage" which can be made of PEEK or Titanium. Both options are reasonable and depend largely on the training of the surgeon. Come to think of it, I should make a video about it. Thank you for reaching out, appreciate it.
@@SpineSurgeonSpeaks What are your thoughts on the material used that is similar to what dentist use? My surgeon made his recommendations and he has advised me that he doesn’t use cadaver bones but some new material that is similar to what dentist use and it’s suppose to be just as effective. I looked up the procedure. He discussed incorporating arthroplasty. What are your thoughts? Thanks
Good questions. You need to have a detailed discussion with your surgeon about all these concerns. I have been recommended for four level ACDF by a neurosurgeon I've seen. I have both radiculopathy and central canal stenosis. However, I'm wondering about some of the more recent advances in cervical surgery that utilize an endoscopic approach to decompress the nerve and spinal cord without fusion. This approach seems to be promising as it is far less invasive, has less blood loss, has a shorter recovery time and reports fewer incidents of revision necessary due to things like adjacent segment disease. Do you have any thoughts about the progress an endoscopic approach has made and success compared to ACDF? Thank-you for your thoughts.
Thank you for your question. I am not familiar with endoscopic surgery, so I am unable to give you my opinion about it. Having said that, I have two videos which may be of interest to you: Don't have spine surgery if... ruclips.net/video/ovSTtD08Olw/видео.html Why spine surgery fails ruclips.net/video/ZN_RLDOEBmA/видео.html Good luck to you 👍
This is actually what I will be having done on 3-25 c4-5 c5-6 c6-7 ACDF and fusion then on 3-27 c3-T1PCDF and fusion . Thank you for sharing this, what do you think my recovery time will be?
Thank you for reaching out. I think this is something that you should ask your surgeon, who will be able to answer this question in your case. In general, the more levels that are fused, the longer the recovery is likely to be. This is especially true of a posterior-cervical fusion surgery. Good luck!
Hey doctors, 21 years old from India Having spondylolysis L5 s1 last 4 months with symptoms of numbness, pain in both legs but left is predominant and pitching in legs : please suggest what could be the best solution! Doctors confused me
I have some type scarring due to hardwear (metal disc) came out & wrecked havoc inside neck. I also had bad numbness & tingling in left shoulder to fingers . My creepy feeling is my arm & torso jerking me!!! Surgery didn’t help that! Any clue??
Hi I going to have surgery on my C5-6 C6-7 and I’m very scared! Your video has made me feel less scared! What did you put on your scar to help it heal?
Great video doc,i met with a car accident in March 2024 and having endless pain. I have been recommended to do an ACDF surgery and i am very curious as to how life will be afterwards,i am only 35 years old male what are your thoughts?
Thank you, glad you found the video helpful. If you are not sure about the recommendation of the surgeon who evaluated you, the best thing to do would be to get a second opinion from another surgeon. Good luck to you, wishing you the best of health.
I agree. A lot of patients wait too long to have the surgery, leading to needless suffering. Glad you had an excellent outcome. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Nice
Does this address foraminal stenosis?
Yes. The distraction across the vertebrae causes the foramen to open up.

No hard collar, only soft-collar.
Yes, we use fluoroscopy.
Good luck 👍

Good luck with your surgery. Collar-wear duration depends on the surgeon (different surgeons have different preferences).

Also: Most patients do not have a traumatic event preceding the onset of cervical-radiculopathy symptoms.

How do u get tools like a drill through a 3in incision in the front of the neck into the spine cervical region?
Surgery is done through small (~1.5inch) incision on the left side of the neck.

Does this procedure require a ng tube? Is the catheter removed prior to waking up from anesthesia?
A naso-gastric (NG) tube is not required for this surgery. The catheter (if/when necessary) is usually removed prior to waking up from anesthesia.

Hi I going to have surgery on my C5-6 C6-7 and I’m very scared! Your video has made me feel less scared! What did you put on your scar to help it heal?
The scar heals very nicely by itself, you don't need to put anything on it.
Good luck to you with the surgery, wishing you all the best 👍👍
Did you have it done? How was recovery? I’m terrified but need it going for consult next week
