  • The Nintendo Switch changed a lot, and there's a strong reason why it is one of the best consoles of all time in my opinion. In the video today, I want to talk about the things I think the Switch did right, why it was able to provide so much joy, and how the game library on the Switch remains unrivaled in many ways. The Switch is definitely my favorite platform of the last 7 years, and I'm stoked to talk about the good memories with the system. #gaming #videogames #nintendoswitch

    Love the early 00's graphic engine aesthetics some of the Switch game preserved or re-created. Always though DS/3DS were quite medicore technology - wise, but the Switch brought back the industry standard quality 'Made in Japan' we remember from 90's. I was so close to visiting it at one point. Had xp with MoCap and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity to visit the place that inspired artists like Toriyama and movies like 'Akira' and 'Ghost in the Shell'.

    We really do need more cozy games on other consoles and pc as well. Nothing sucks more than coming back from work or a hard day or an off day wanting to play something chill while all you have as good games are games that feel like should just be careers on their own. Elden Ring, Fighting games, Online Multiplayer... Sometimes I just wanna mindlessly throw a ball into hole without having to invent a mathematical equation or more focus than chemist trying not to cause and explosive imbalance.

    Agree 100%. I've been a Nintendo fan since the original GameBoy. Had my wilderness years - missed the 2DS and 3DS, only picked up my own Wii secondhand and the control system never worked well for me, but when I became a late Switch adopter nearly three years ago it was one of my best gaming decisions. This weekend I just dug out my old GameBoy Advance and DS again and I'm having a great time playing all the old games. When I was younger they called it "the Nintendo difference" - that commitment to pure fun, the unashamed valuing of these being games that accommodate players with a wide range of abilities... it's just nice. And nice is underrated. I've spent so much of my life playing series like Mario, Zelda, F-Zero, Advance Wars and Pokemon, and I'll always come back for more.

    2017 is my favourite year of gaming for just the switch alone. Felt like everyone had one by 2018 but for the first couple months I felt like the luckiest kid at school for having one and being able to finally for the first time have a console at launch.
    Having a console quality experience on the go was something I dreamed of as a kid previous to the switch and I thought it’d never happen. When I saw the reveal trailer I was so hyped I gave up on wanting a ps4 that Christmas.
    It was also pretty lucky that the switch seems to have the best quality and variety of exclusives for a consoles first year I’ve ever seen.
    Botw, mk8dx, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade chronicles 2, Mario+rabbids, Mario odyssey
    Such a far cry from series x/s and ps5 which feel like we’re barely started with.
    Splatoon 2 got me into shooters and is my favourite game ever. So many shooters growing up previous to s2 just didn’t have an art direction that appealed to me which really put me off. Also I wasn’t old enough to get games like cod at the time. Like most Nintendo games it felt like a shooter but for almost anyone which helped me ease into games like apex, Titanfall 2 and halo. I still play s2 regularly.

    Absolutely great video that I believe summarises the feeling of most gamers in their 30s & 40s. I am a console gamer and Nintendo was my first love when I was a kid with NES, Game Boy and SNES. Then PS1 hit hard and I was a PlayStation guy for many years. But I always keep coming back to Nintendo consoles because their games have the magic touch and the innovation that no other company has (except very few exceptions). And Switch IMO is their peak in hardware design and game library. First party games, jrpgs and indie games are phenomenal. Combined with the form factor of instant switch (sic) between TV and handheld, yeah this is the best console of all time!

  • @ruuukuxp
    @ruuukuxp 22 дня назад +1

    I went through 2 phases of gaming with the Switch. I was a first gen adopter, took a lot of efforts but I did snag one fairly early after initial release. I got through so much gaming, mostly on the go, as the wife has priority on the TV. I played until my son who got old enough to start playing with me. One day he accidentally deleted our 100% save game for Lego Jurassic World. I couldn't play on it anymore cos I didn't want to lose another save game like that.
    A few more years go by and I got the itch to play TotK. I realized my solution was just buy another Switch! So I bought the OLED and then spent over 200 hours in TotK. I also took opportunity to play my first Pokemon game (I did Scarlet, while my kid did Violet), finished games I didn't before, etc. It was so much good fun. I have now moved onto the Steam Deck (sold off the OLED to friends) but I now play with my kid on his Switch when he needs help. The Switch definitely is a great gaming console.
    In regards to the stick drift problem... Although it's totally bad on Nintendo's part on poor design, I actually have found it kinda fun to open the joy-con to swap out the broken joysticks. I've done the whole shell swap for my kid's Switch as well. Because of its popularity, there's a whole aftermarket industry flourishing to cater to people's preferences for self expression.
    Yea, all in all, Switch has been a huge part of Mt gaming life in its entire generation. While I'm pretty sure I'll upgrade my kid to the successor, we probably just stick with 1 console this time, as I'm pretty content on the Deck.

    I agree with everything you said, the Switch brought joy back to gaming as an adult with the convenience to play anywhere. I went back to loving huge jrgs again, which I hadn't since the early 90s with SNES and PS1, the convenience of always on, play a little bit here, stop, continue later, is awesone. And....the metroidvanias!!!, so much great games here, even got addicted to roguelikes, joy all around!!

    If you like the Switch, you should really try the Steam Deck OLED. Its such an incredible machine. Having the Steam library at your finger tips is no joke. It can play most games including big ones like Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate, etc. And the best part? Its insanely good at and easy to do emulation. I can go from playing Elden RIng to Pokemon Soul Silver on the same machine that is portable and dockable to a TV. Probably the single greatest purchase I have made in a long time. It has changed gaming for me, way more than my Switch ever did (for me personally).

    • @gamble777888
      @gamble777888 29 дней назад +2

      Well, keep in mind the Deck probably wouldn't be a thing without the Swtich. But yea, for those that have any interest at all in PC gaming OR those that are frustrated with the Switch's archaic hardware then the Deck deserves very serious consideration. I made the switch (no pun intended) myself and yea, it's like getting a next gen Switch. Of course you don't have access to first party Nintendo titles unless you emulate, and not all of the Switch gen titles will run great on emulator, so that's the drawback. On the flipside you have access to essentially every third party game ever made outside of a few exceptions.

      @gamble777888 29 дней назад +1

      I mean, "well" is a bit of a subjective judgement. I would go with "ok" or "decently". I will say it is pretty impressive in general the type of games that are able to run at all on the Switch. It's almost like taking us back when programmers actually had to optimize and do all sorts of tricks to get games to run. You don't see any of that on the Series X and PS5. You DO see it on the Series S and on Steam Deck, and to me that's a good thing for games and game development in general.

    • @TicTacToeCraft
      @TicTacToeCraft 28 дней назад

      @@BananaBlooD9517 Look, I am not implying that optimization is inherently negative. Rather, I am saying that excessive time and effort may be dedicated to optimizing a complex game for limited hardware capabilities. This, as always, results in trade-offs.
      Furthermore, despite the efforts made, there are still noticeable frame drops in the game, particularly when using Ultra Hand. These performance issues indicate shortcomings that could have been addressed with more capable hardware.
      In conclusion, while I acknowledge the hard work of the developers in optimizing the game for the Nintendo Switch, I believe that the higher management should consider providing a more powerful system to enable further improvements and enhance the overall gaming experience. The Switch is outdated, and it shows.

    I think you nailed the main point at 4:40 that the Switch has not been invaded by AAA live service nonsense. I've been playing MW3 on Xbox and it is heartbreaking how much these $70 games are filled with micro transactions, constant advertising, FOMO tactics, etc. I love that the switch often gets the complete version of games, maybe a bit late, but with all the dlc included. However it's a shame you lost interest in handhelds after the psp, because the 3DS and Vita were so damn good in their own ways, and I wish Nintendo had made the switch a bit more like them in terms of general functionality and features.

    I never had a Nintendo Console before, i'm from Argentina and here apart from the NES long time ago, Nintendo wasn't really popular.
    I play on PC but I always loved portable consoles and I wanted to get into the nintendo games (Specially Zelda botw). I had lots of consoles before: SEGA, Playstation 2, Xbox 360 and Playstation 4 before even buying the Switch and let me tell you something, this is the best console since PS2. The amount of TOP TIER games it has and the ability to play almost everything with my friends, girlfriend and family is something I wouldn't change for anything, it has the same feeling of "gathering your loved ones to have some fun" that the PS2 had. If we only consider that, the Switch is a gem on it's own. But that's not it, this console made me play a TON of old games that I never played like Zelda OOT, Majora's Mask, Minish Cap, Mario party, mario 64, Pokemon Stadium and all the other games that you can emulate in a matter of seconds with your Switch in a NATIVE WAY.
    I can't number all the good things this console has to offer, an absolute game changer imho. Love to see that I'm not the only one that felt that way!

    Im glad that so many people are enjoying it, but they seem to forget that these are the kind of experiences the industry saw as "backwards" or "uncool" a few years back. The GC and WiiU had similar titles but got overshadowed because of the mentality at the time

    Fast forward to 2019 and my wife is watching some influencer on RUclips that was randomly talking about the Nintendo Switch and she tells me “I want a Nintendo switch” she never did buy one but I peaked my interest and I ended up getting myself one and never looked back now I have like 5 3Ds, Gameboy Advance SP with back light mod, switch lite, switch, modded Wii U, 2 DSi’s and more that I forgot.
    I think perfection for me is: Mid tier gaming PC, Steam Deck, and collection of various Nintendo consoles. I did do emulation on my Steam deck but it just felt dirty and I would rather use original hardware.

I love the battery life too. The Mobapads are really high quality and were worth it. They are not missing any features like others. I got the new black ones and they match the Switch color.

    Got a lot of love for this console. I’m quite young which means I was about 9 years old when the switch came out. Got it in july as a gift after waiting for Walmart to get more stock and man I remember playing the heck out of it! Couldn’t even sleep cause kept thinking about botw 😂 but yeah the switch is such a great console and I’m quite excited to see how switch 2 is going to look like 😁

    Nintendo switch is my first console. I've only ever emulated their old consoles on the phone so when I got it I was blown away. Every single game I played was so fun, so packed with content, and it helped me bond with my brother more than ever. Even though I sold it to buy a steam deck the switch is still the best console I've ever played

    I was strongly considering it when the OLED came out. But I chickened out. Even last year, I would go to my local Target for a few items and end up playing the Switch display for 45 minutes. Now, I feel like I've truly missed out on something. I could buy it tomorrow if I wanted to, but after 3 years of finding excuses to not buy it, I'd be dumb to cave now, at the VERY END!

    During the few months of the pandemic to a year or so I opted to stay at work (hospital) to keep my family safe
    My Switch kept me from boredom and saved my sanity 😂 had a stressful day Animal Crossing was there
    Had plenty of more than 24hrs of work but still enjoyed multiplayer with my coworkers we all had a blast
    and when I finally have my me-time I enjoyed a lot of single players games like rpgs
    This little machine that could, I fully understand why this things sold and is so well loved.

    Man this little handheld saved me from depression I finished so many single player games on it and played a lot of mario party and mario kart with fiancée and friends. To this day even though I have a steam deck i find myself using the switch more because of the portability and battery life plus its more convenient and I also have a huge backlog of ganes on it that i must finish 😂

    I 100% agree with you. I was an early adopter and my Xbox was nearly forgotten. I did get the ROG Ally when it came out and it's really good, but my switch is still my daily driver. I'm not a PC gamer, I prefer the console experience. The switch gets me in my game faster, has a longer battery life, and I can go from big screen to handheld in literally less than a second. I just hope the successor isn't like the Wii U. A good device but under marketed.

    Nothing to say about the Switch that hasn't been said, one of the most succesful consoles of all time, a brilliant success for Nintendo. Personally, some frustrations with pricing (most expensive version of every game, first-party games virtually never go on significant discount), online services (why can't I buy classic games?), and just lackluster performance led me to get a Deck, but the Switch was still a system I loved for around 5-6 years, and it deserves its success.

    Fully agree. They hybrid nature and the vast variety of games; makes the Switch my favorite console device of all time (even though I too have a gaming laptop and various emulation devices with hdmi out). It is the most balanced and convenient thing I ever used for gaming. The only issue I have; is that I wish it was more pocketable and they made a bezel less Switch lite OLED with docking ability. It seems less likely that the next gen Switch will be pocket friendly either, with a rumored 8 inch screen; feels like a very carry friendly console with handheld functionality, but not pocketable. I can pocket the OLED of I detach the joycons and put the tablet and joycons in separate slim cases, but I doubt the next gen Switcj will allow me to do that.

Wait for Nintendo to fix the issues then get the improved version of Switch 2 when it comes out a few years from now.

    this isn't a switch thing as much as its a nintendo thing. you just discovered the magic of the "nintendo charm" & why nintendo has been in business for over 100 years. they just know how to make games fun & they prioritize fun over all else. games anyone of any age can pick up, play & enjoy. Super Mario World on Super Nintendo was fun when I was 8 years old back in 1991 & its still just as fun now that i'm 41. nothing has changed. Mario 3D world is the same way. it was fun back in 2013 on the Wii U & guess whats still fun in 2024 on the Switch? same thing. I'm not even a Nintendo fan per se, but the day Nintendo stops making games is the day I stop gaming. Nintendo just brings that family-oriented charm & originality that much of AAA gaming is missing. I wouldn't want to be a gamer if they didn't exist. very few other games have that "cozy" nostalgic charm & style that Nintendo games do. Astro Bot came close though! Crash Bandicoot 4, Sonic Mania, Penny's Big Breakaway & Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart were good also, but nothing can replace Nintendo!
