The actual answer for the window flap is that if the plane crashes and emergency workers need to help/clean up they need to be able to see in to see any survivors or hazards

Everything that happens before the flight is because of regulations and the pilots can get their licenses revoked if the the safety procedures aren't demonstrated (and as weird as it sounds they also have to tell you the destination and length of the flight) the airline would probably get a big fine, so they don't do it because they want to but because they have to.
I understand this is a boring comment but it may be interesting to someone.

Yeah it is!!! As a kid, i was slightly supersticious, and I would think that if I ever ignored the instructions or did not read the the little pamphlet with the security measures, it would jinx the flight!!!! so the 2 to 3 times a year I flew, I always read and payed attention carefully, even though I knew the think by heart!

I love his comedy but what's interesting here (besides the fact you can get free cheese strudel) is how his stage persona has changed and developed. The story telling is basically the same 'script- but his mannerisms, even his voice has changed so much. But five-years on, the best punchlines are still about his parents!

Modern planes are chock full of computers and the trick works on basically everything, because it resets the computer to a known -- and known to be correct -- state. It's not unheard of for safety-critical software to be limited to so many hours / days of runtime, and offer no guarantees beyond that (or to literally not allow running for that long, usually because of some sort of counters overflowing and the like).

Flight attendant here: you would be SURPRISED at how many people don't know and are incapable of understanding how the seat belts function. "Lift the buckle" appears to be too complicated an instruction.
Many people need personal lessons after the safety video because they haven't watched it and now can't use their seat belts.
All this to say: please pay attention to the safety video.
