All good points, especially #5. I lived there in the 70s, and those were the best years of my life. I say this sincerely because of the people whom I knew. It's been decades, but I'm sure the Colombian character is steadfast. I absolutely adore Colombia.
It's incredible that Germans, North Americans and some foreigners say that health care system is affordable and competent... I'm agreed, Health care system in the States is for rich and wealthy...
Great Thanks... I am actually thinking of retiring to COLOMBIA... I am already retired.. but my greatest concern is the TAX situation in Colombia... I know that as an American citizen even if I moved there I have to fill my IRS ... how is the TAX in COLOMBIA...?
I will retire to Colombia in 2027. Some things worthy to note. Best coffee on this Planet! REAL fresh fruit, not the "stuff" found in USA grocery stores that has no taste. Solidaridad de la gente. Colombia actually has a culture, the USA does not. Sure, people know your business, but you will never be found one year after dying moldering dead in a recliner in front of a television like they find lonely, forgotten people in the USA. People look out for each other. If you are invited to a lunch where ajiaco is served, you have been extended an invitation tantamount to an extreme respect and love. Never forget that. I thank God that my wife and I bought a cake for desert and flowers for the lady of the house when we arrived. The bonds formed are very strong and not fleeting like USA people "bonds." I left the church mentally at age 9 and physically at age 15 and was a sworn atheist. When I visit Colombia and see a church, I want to go. I pay my respects because I feel that the spirit of the people creates God more than "the fact" that God just exists, and I feel that is just such an American sickness. Whoo, that was heavy. What about the food? Name me one restaurant in the USA that serves great food. Think it through because you probably can't name one that consistently does so. But a small storefront place in Colombia (also found in Miami if family owned) will blow your tastebuds away. Had to edit this to include... In 2021 I visited Bogota. My brother-in-law told me that we have to wear Covid masks when we leave the apartment and venture outside. When we arrived at centro commercial, EVERYONE was wearing masks. I asked him if there was a law or mandate issued in the city. "No, there isn't. The people realize how serious this pandemic is and choose to protect each other." Meanwhile, back in the USA, people were screaming at each other over mask wearing. Think about that.
Gracias. Marc
Thinking of retiring in Valledupar Colombia my reasons are love for the hot weather love for Vallenato music and most important the people in itself are amazing. I hate NY it's a a total shithole it's expensive it's stressful and the people in general are nasty. I have come across some good people in NY but for the most part they are not friendly. Great video my choice would be Valledupar what is your input on this city my friend.
I left New York 10 years ago for Miami I couldn’t take living in New York anymore. I loved Miami until I discovered Colombia 3 years ago. I was about to retire in Colombia at 52 years old with a decent pension from my New York City job now Colombia completely changed all the visa laws making extremely difficult for foreigners to retire there. Even investment visa have become complicated. Why did the Colombian government ruin everything. I figured I would mention the major visa changes before you leave New York for Colombia
A Colombian here! Crime is everywhere just look at cities like Chicago, St Louis or Baltimore...Nice people and amazing places but shotguns are common place...
