I love when you interview attorneys, Very detailed informative info.
Interesting video, very clear explanations
Thanks with the very good updated info
Great update !
I have used Alan’s firm for the purchase of a property and they are extremely professional and reasonably priced.
Thank you for a really informative video. And this house is beautiful.!
You should see the terrace 🙂
well done and thanks.
Very good video. More of these. Sad to see them restrict like Europe. I know many people in the EU who want to leave.
I'm here in Colombia and married.. But i still have to apply for my migrant visa yearly. New documents being required this year... And a week to get them otherwise pay for the visa study again and wait a month to hear a new response. So many annoyances here. I just want to buy a nice cheaper house and raise a family. My Spanish is definitely lacking so I'm worried about applying for residency in the future taking these tests in Spanish. Well anyways thank you for the video with Alan he's a great source of information.
I think Alan mis spoke at 16:35 when he said you could get residency with a Common Law marriage after 5 years, the new rules downgraded the Union de hecho to a 1 year V visa and the V does not offer any path to R. Only the M visa gives you an accumulated time path to the R visa.
Why would it be preferable to be "burdened" by a lump sum real estate purchase visa instead of a rentista income visa? I didn't understand his point exactly. And
I would like to you see do this for Kenya also am planning on moving their
Great to hear directly from an attorney there. I've been researching the new changes.
1 thing I'm curious is under this migrant visa by purchasing property, can an investor open a bank account in Colombia?
Theoretically yes, but it’s extremely hard and generally not worth it. Stick to an account with a brokerage firm. They work well for donestic wires.
Appreciate your insight on everything @@TheWanderingInvestor
Good video and information. Thanks gentlemen.
Can the said property bought for getting residency be rented out to generate some return on investment without triggering tax residency? The question is really about taxation on local vs worldwide income
Thanks. Residency does not trigger tax residency. You need to stay there a lot to become a tax resident. Yes, you can rent out the property.
@@TheWanderingInvestor Yes, having residency doesn't trigger tax residency but I asked about local income? Does a mere unearned rental income trigger tax on worldwide income?
@@soundslight7754 no it doesn’t 👍
We should apply the same rules to Colombian in the u.s
If you have been married in the U.S. to a Colombian citizen and have 3 children who are Colombian citizens. If it best to get Colombian residency through the children or spouse? Also, did you say that you have come to Colombia every 6 months for 2 or 3 years to obtain citizenship?
Damn it's getting harder every year
Everywhere 🫤
@@TheWanderingInvestor not everywhere, namely Cambodia is easier
@@kippsguitar6539perhaps but Cambodia is no comparison to Colombia. It’s also turning into a Chinese vassal state so possible geopolitical problems in the near future as well as the growing anti western sentiment.
What about retirement residency?
any recommendations for good realtors in the isla baur cartagena area?
Sorry, no.
With the real estate option that grants you and your family a 3 year migrant visa, how is family defined?
Send Alan an email he’ll send you the whole brochure. Typically dependent children and spouse.
Under the new real estate option, what happens if you don't come back for 7+ months? Do you have to buy a new home to renew the visa or can you reapply and start again?
Reapply and start again
Colombia use to have a beautiful investment visa if your brought a property you got a five year visa then after five years you get residency it was beautiful. President Petro ruined that visa because he dislikes foreigners
Nomad visa is not worth it imho
Is there any positives to opening a Columbian Corp and purchasing a property rather than doing it as a foreigner
Apart from asset protection, mostly negatives.
should I invest in Ecuador term deposit...is it good investment ?
Content coming on Ecuador. Stay tuned.
No
Colombia wants to get people on taxes. Like 40% of income if you're wealthy.
Definitely a bad tax base
Cute cat 😎 (had to be said)
So whats the property purchase minimum amount?
About $100k
@@TheWanderingInvestor thank you!
Am I missing something? You've said that you can both hold a Migrant visa AND avoid tax residency in Colombia, but you've also said that to hold and maintain the Migrant visa you have to reside in Colombia for more than six months every year? Doesn't that mean that tax residency IS mandatory if you want to keep your M visa? thanks
That’s not what was said “you cannot leave for more than 6 months at a time”.
Technically you can simply come back every 6 months. Speak to a local CPA for tax advise.
Good video, but to the wandering investor: please put on some pants. Nobody needs to see your body in this fashion.
Colombia : it’s rules for Americans to enter
America : I left the door unlocked, come on in
And a free phone and debit card
The marriage visa is the easiest option, but the most expensive one too (joke) :)
😅
How easy is the marriage visa I'm about to get married and hope in two years I will have residency. I'm wondering if after a few years if I get divorced will I lose my residency or is residency forever
This "migrant visa" seems much inferior and just not worth it.
It’s good if you want to live there. But not as a plan B or easy path to citizenship
