My mom met her cousin in her math class at Syracuse University. They coincidentally sat next to each other and became close friends before finding out. Now, we celebrate all the holidays together.
I had a somewhat similar thing happen. It happened nearly thirty years ago. A friend of mine got a new girlfriend. I offerred to drive her home one day and as we were driving, I was making chit-chat and mentioned something about having an aunty that we (my family) would visit as kids, and that the old woman used to put walnuts on everything she baked. Coffee cake with walnuts on the icing, afghan biscuits, with chocolate icing and walnuts etc.,. She said, "heh.., I had an aunty like that and she lived on this road we're driving on. And then we both pointed to the house at the same time. Ended up we were cousins.

my husband met his older sister for the first time at a neighborhood park when they were like 4 and 8. they had heard about each other but never met, both were being raised by different grandmothers. once they realized who each other was, his sister took him home with her and kept him hidden there for a couple days before they were found out.
I can only imagine how their mom felt letting go of her children. I must have been like getting your extremeties mutilated. you know they were once there, you can still almost feel they are there, can't see it, but can still feel the pain.
I get the impression the mother was a drug addict, couldn't or wouldn't get her act together and found it easier to give the kids up instead of fighting to keep them. A real mother never abandons her children, but instead makes those changes in her own life and lifestyle necessary to protect and raise her children. My wife and I raised six children, through thick and thin and never for a second thought to give any away.
Tom Miller you shouldn’t assume what her circumstances were but okay even if it was due to drug addiction, she still knew she was unable to care for her kids and she needed to do what was right for them. I’m sure you’ve made mistakes that other people would look at and say “I’ve never done such a thing” the good thing is that her kids were both raised in a happy family that could care for them and now they’ve all reunited again.
@@gabbymerritt7937 I understand your point, but the bottom line is she chose to abandon her children instead of doing what needed to be done to keep them. It's great the kids had a good life with adoptive parents. It's too bad they did not know they had siblings or had a bio mother who kept the family together. After all, even a dirt poor loving family is better than being sent away. Think Dolly Parton, Coat of Many Colors and the love of that once dirt poor family. By the way, decades in EMS, Law Enforcement and Crime Scene Investigation has put me in touch with many who even in dire straits were able to keep their priorities straight and properly raise their own children.... and I have had contact with those who preferred their addiction over their children. I suspect the bio mother in this incident is most likely the latter.
Wish that siblings never should be separated. And if they are, they should always be able to know where their siblings are, so they can keep in contact, if they want to.
Carol Howard I think that a lot of people that come from backgrounds where there is abuse or extreme poverty or maybe just ignorance don’t understand the risks of the risks they take . Including unprotected sex. But also there is a chance she used protection and it failed. I know a married woman whose 4 children where all with her using different forms of birth control. She is brave because she gave them life and then was so unselfish she gave her children to better homes.
Don't think they should have separate them. Know it makes them harder to adopt . People don't always want two kids. But they where all they had each other.
I met my cousin (who I hadn't seen since about age 5 - him being a year older) online at "the earlier stages of the internet" (around 1994) when I was 15. Back then it was already rare enough to meet someone from the same, relatively small country I am from, but when we figured out we were related, that was really hilarious.
