I am a psychology student and I know how important twin studies are for science, but consciously separating twins is extremely unethical. There are no other words for it.

@@Marie01165 because they're twins (or triplets) they're born together and should be together. I know people who are twins and there's a bond between them like no other siblings. Even normal siblings they try not to seperate where possible. When put up for adoption by their birth parents, they have no other family apart from each other, they should stay together.

The adoption agency that they were adopted from were actually doing experiments on multiple births and separating Twins and other triplet this see the effects. They never told the birth parents that their twins or triplets would be separated or the adopted parents that their child that they adopted actually had siblings. The agency would check up on each child and compared them. Many of the children that were separated grew up to have anxiety, depression and separation anxiety. Plus study's show that people who experience trauma like this as an infant or child commit suicide at a higher rate than people that didn't receive trauma.
There is a documtery on this. Which includes the triplets

The three brothers were born to a single mother in 1961. (They were actually quadruplets; the fourth brother died at birth.) At the direction of a Jewish adoption agency and psychiatrists Viola W. Bernard and Peter B. Neubauer, the three infants were intentionally placed with families of different economic levels - one blue-collar, one middle-class, and one upper-class - who had each adopted a baby girl from the same agency two years earlier. The brothers were raised by their respective adoptive families as David Kellman, Eddy Galland, and Bobby Shafran. They discovered one another by chance in 1980 and became very close, but all three struggled with depression throughout their lives, which ultimately led to Galland's suicide in 1995

@@littleme3597 The problem is not just that they separated them, which is still a huge problem though, but that they never told the adopted parents about the other brothers. In the documentary if i remember right the parents all said that they would have adopted all 3 if they knew, but even if they all could not and each could only adopt one, they could have all still had a relationship with each other growing up. The parents could have let them all meet as children and grow up together in some way. They could have still built some kind of bond as kids growing up that would have made things easier and had made up a bit for what happened, but they were never given that option.

Well, Idon't think the separation served only research purposes. Most adoptive parents do not want triplets, they do not want to make a spectacle out of their families. They just want a normal family, without media staff asking questions about why the kids do not look like their parents etc.

x1 Borzi What?? They are already adopting someone else's children, so who is going to ask why there's no resemblance? There are families who adopt siblings from the same family, multiples included. If someone doesn't want to be a spectacle, then they should not go thru the process of adopting children!

    • @x1borzi405

Did you see the same vid, dear Caryn? These adopted boys were not told about their being adopted. One of them even tells how shocking it was for him to hear it when he was a grown-up. The parents did not tell anyone. They did not want questions, it seems. Look if you have a kid who does not look like you, that's no problem, nobodylooks at you twice. But if you have triplets, everyone will look at you and questions are asked.

One account I read attributed it to the fact that the separation was an experiment and that child never adjusted to the reality and sadness of having been separated. Who knows? It is pretty disturbing that scientists thought that it was morally okay to play with childrens' lives. Interesting story on many levels. I hope to see the movie.

I remember this story when it first broke. Two brothers were right-handed, the third was left-handed. Experts on identical births said, "Wait a minute...there must be a fourth who would also left-handed." Later we were told the 4th brother had died at birth or shortly thereafter. It was shameful that they separated those children and then forced the adoptive parents to allow them to be evaluated regularly. The story was told that the adoption agency ALWAYS separated children of multiple births (monetary greed, I'm sure). Shame on the Today show people for not posting the whole story and explaining the tragedy that befell them in 1995. The boys had problems from early on because of the horrific thing of separating them and using them as guinea pigs for years after. These men and their families need our prayers and support, not criticism.

What an ignorant crock of crap. Being right handed or left handed has NOTHING to do with the genetics of being an identical twin.

    • @missydeyo5042
      @missydeyo5042 5 лет назад +1

Giuseppe Sarto I saw that they were separated as an experiment. However the parents would still need to sign off to agree to the separation of the twins - whether or not they knew it was for an experiment is a different issue. What I responded to was 'How could you separate triplets?!' Unless the parents agreed to get pregnant through in vitro or through a process that commonly results in twins, triplets or more, knowing that it was all for science, the reality is that the hospital was most likely aware of a scientific experiment or doctors seeking twins/triplets that the parent was already planning on giving up babies born in multiples. That's why I said the comment that I did. My response was to the original comment of 'How could anyone separate triplets?' Well, as I said, it is sad but I can understand parents being in a position to make that choice. The biological parents clearly had no idea the babies were going to the hands of doctors performing a scientific experiment.

It should be made illegal. New York state Senator Eugene Levy and New York state Assemblyman Steven Sanders introduced such a bill in the mid-1980s, but the bill didn't become law.

I went to see this by myself and cried all the way home. A month or two later I found out I have a half sister who is 46. My brother is 48, I am 52. I always wished I had a sister and a woman contacted him on Facebook, saying she is our sister. She sent me a dna testing kit from ancestry. The results prove it is true. I haven’t been able to meet her yet, but my brother has.

My ex gf was adopted as a baby. 5 yrs ago I saw a lady on a train platform in London that I knew in my heart wasn’t my ex (due to her dress sense and other things) but was an absolute doppelgänger in facial features and even down to the exact same hairstyle, I even stood close to her surreptitiously calling my exes name to see if she reacted. She didn’t. I texted my ex to see if she had been at that location that day and she said no. I so regret not talking to the lady on the train platform but how do you say to a total stranger that you think she maybe a twin of someone adopted out 50yrs earlier and not sound like a total mentalist?!!

    • @Pinkchihuahuadog

I would've pulled up a picture of my gf, and just said, I don't mean to freak you out, but you look just like my gf, and she was adopted. Then she'd at least have her name and how to contact your gf. It would be shocking, but I would want to know if I had a twin!
