No audience here; only the ghosts of Pompeii from 79 AD when the volcano Vesuvius destroyed their city. And you are so right, we have to stop destroying our planet!
Studio v Pompeii - 2 completely different beasts and imo it's a mistake to compare them side by side. Live is stripped down, raw and a lot more biting. My favorite Floyd moments happened when it was just the 4 of them playing off each other. The studio version is an ocean of music. 45 years later and multiple thousands of listens and I still will find instrumentation that I had never noticed before. It happens when I listen on a different set of headphones, or a new device, or if I'm not focussing on the music. Something always pops up. Imo people should not compare the 2 versions and just be grateful that they both exist.
this is back when we were kids.... was so eperimnal...there was a time when music was amazing. I I think that our young people .... and you to , tooties. Its all for our children
David Gilmour " Live at Pompeii" 42 yrs later. Play only one song from the past performance. " one of these days". Solo work " in any tongue" ( women next to me started to cry. her son came back from Afgh. committed suicide.) "The Blue" , "rattle that lock", all great songs. first time in the amphitheater WITH an audience since 49 A.D.
this song is not about caring for the sea, it is about evolution if you listen carefully "And no one showed us to the land And no one knows the where's or why's But something stirs and something tries And starts to climb toward the light " explains or tells how life arises from water.
The Floyd aren't litigious - they allow reactions to whole albums. For me, although this version is amazing, the Live in Gdansk version is transcendent - a religious experience!
Great to see you working your way through floyd, perhaps you could try floyds Dogs of War one of there most under rated tracks , it has a great bit of Sax towards the end. I would recommend Deep Purples Burn, this is where Iron maiden stole there sound for every maiden song.
This was filmed for the movie, Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii, and originally the movie consisted of only the footage shot at Pompeii. This was 1972. Later, when they were in the studio working on Dark Side of the Moon (1973 release) they filmed some sequences there and added them to the movie. And one of the songs you shoiuld DEFINITELY listen to is Brain Damage from the movie, because their is guitar work in there that has NEVER appeared on any album, and to this day I wonder why, it is so hauntingly beautiful it is almost a crime that it did not make it on to the album. Please check it out, Brain Damage from Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii. And do NOT listen to Director's Cut, the idiot overdubbed most of the guitar part I am talking about!! Stupid director! Broke my heart when I bought the dvd only to discover that the reason I had bought it had 85% of it overdubbed!! I don't want to bring you down further, but I have heard about a study by scientists that as far as the north and south polse go, it is past the point of no return, and that they WILL melt. No stopping it any more. THAT is sad. And as George Carlin (RIP) put it, the PLANET is fine. It's the people ON the planet that are in trouble. We did ourselves in. I wonder if ANY OTHER SPECIES ever did themselves in the way the human race has. Probably not.
Here's the Part 2: ruclips.net/video/anvSs2TJ4FM/видео.html
Thx for not forgetting part 2, man
I loved it when you said "is this before everybody showed up"
😄😄

Yes, it hurts
Perfect answer. And can you imagine what would have been left of that amphitheatre if they HAD allowed an audience?

Sure, thanks!
Hopefully you listened to both halves.
Yes, both are gonna premiere one after the other.
Endless Odyssey excellent! Can’t wait for my kid to go to sleep so I can get high and watch.
