- We've all been there- we pick up a new planner and we are SO EXCITED to use it! We dive in, write in all of our upcoming appointments and plans, and are ready to ROCK THIS PLANNER. A few weeks go by.... and you aren't using your planner anymore. It's found a spot on the shelf, and you never touch it again.
Make 2019 different! In this video, I share a few of my tips on how to make planning a HABIT in 2019!

I can remember when I purchased my first Happy Planner (2016)!!! However, prior to that my old job made us plan by having Stephen Covey come to our job and he introduced me to my first ring bound planner The Franklin Covey back in 1996! Whew! Fast forward to December 2018, I have (3) Franklin Covey ring bounds, (2) Daytimers, (5) Travelers Notebooks, (1) Recollections ring bound, and (2) mini Happy Planners, and lastly (5) Classic sized Happy Planners!!! However looking at your shelving, you my dear have surpassed us all!!! Love all of your videos! Happy New Year, and Happy Planning!
Cool Crafty Creations Oh my gosh my company did the same with Covey! I was with Hibernia National Bank in New Orleans in 1996 and Covey was all the rave. Covey came with a huge day long presentation and I bought everything as well!
HAHAHAHA The Happy Planner sends me a LOT of planners. Several on my shelves are unused. Some are sticker books, some are notebooks, some are old planners that I used in the past.... not all of them are planners that I actively use lol!

I have been using a calendar/planner for as far back as I can remember. Can't imagine people who do not keep track of their lives with a planner. Your information was right on track. Minimum is to check the calendar/planner morning and evening. I have my everything planner, a journal, a budget extension frankenplanned, then a separate Faith planner. Never thought I would use all of these but kept them filled this last year. Love your videos, they have been lots of help to me.
I have been using a planner (with stickers and the works), since 2018. You were the first person I happen to tune into regarding weekly preplanning. I wanted to imitate everything you did cause you are artistic and have an eye for color coordination, dimension and theme concept. I DO NOT! And when I did it exactly as you did, it didn't look right. But you have inspired me to be myself and do it how I see it for me. Thank you and will continue to be inspired by you and a small select others in the planner community in 2020. Have a blessed and happy new year.

Thank you for this one!! I have so many half used planners. I always have great intentions but the follow through is the worst. That's one of my goals this year, going to make a vision board as well.
Set a daily alarm on your phone to use it!
Make it a priority to make it a habit! It has changed my life !
I’ve really only been planning since September so I consider myself a newbie. Heather has been my inspiration and my favorite all time RUclipsr. We have similar styles of planning. I’ve copied spread ideas but made them my own! My planner works for me and that’s the main thing that Heather stresses. I’ve gotten pretty good at this if I say so my damn self! Hello Heather, I have been a subscriber on my phone but finally now on my tablet...I also started using a paper planner back in junior high it was the pocket planner that fit in my purse...always used them until around ten years ago, when job ended I stopped using planners, except of course everything has always been written down on my wall calendar...then I saw the happy planner here on RUclips then went right out n got one, this is my third year, 2020, that I will be using the happy planner...bought one that I really don't like the color but it was the best one that was left...so haven't started using it yet...I love decorating my planner...love all your tips...great ideas...Tfs...blessings...have a Merry Xmas n happy new year...🎄🎄🎄...

Really liked this style of video. I've always looked forward to your videos (helpful, clear, inspiring). Now that I'm working full time I'm planning on getting a mini planner for an on the go planner. I like to leave my classic at home. So, I'll be watching your mini mania Mondays more regularly!

I totally hear you about the checklist! I have had a list made out and then realized I didn’t have something written down that I did. So... I had to write it down so that I could check it off! Lol! I’ve been using the Happy Planner system for about a year and a half now. Will not chat to any other system!

Heather, I really liked this video on the Tips to make planning a habit. I took notes and plan to implement them in my planner so that I am more productive on a daily basis and I am more organized in my life which is one of my main goals. I have watched a few other videos about decorating a planner for the first time and the must haves for setting up a planner I have a Happy planner, stickers, washi, and some pens. Heather, I watch all of your videos & get so many great ideas from you. I have a video idea if you’d be willing to make one. I’d love help on setting up a mini planning area/station. I have so many sticker books & accessories (thanks MAMBI 🙄😂) that I keep in my craft room away from my toddler. I’m thinking it would be beneficial for me to set up a small planning station with the most used stickers & necessities to keep in the living room in a small bin or tote. This way I could plan while still being in the room with my child. I have the planner cart & it’s fully stocked, but I rarely roll it into the living room. I can’t be the only one who would benefit from a video like this. Thank you for all your ideas & inspiration!
That would be a great video, but it's not something I really do. Since I have an office for planning, I rarely move it outside of my office!
These were some good tips. I would start planning and then stop. Then I would feel intimidated by it, but you are giving me hope that I can plan and get more organized. I need to be more organized. Thank you for the vid.

I love to craft, scripture writing, journaling, scripture study. I also have doctor appointments. I love color pencils and pens. I don’t have to work so I have all these things I love. And I love color. I research color and meanings in life and scripture

can you make planner videos using the horizontal planner styles?? it’s so hard to get inspiration when everyone has the vertical!

A lot of people hate the horizontal planners unless you use it for just one small thing and minimalistically there's not enough room for anything

Heather, I love your videos! This one will be perfect for my mom (she has trouble sticking with it). Do you think you will ever make a video about what to do when you don’t have a busy week? I’m a college student and when I’m on break I don’t have anything to put in my planner 😔
Layton You could use it for daily to do lists and add extra decor or you could use it as a faith planner. I have a separate faith journal/ sermon notes Happy planner and I love it. Hope this helps and have a wonderful 2019 school year!
I teach, so there are periods where there may not be a lot going on. I fill space with quotes from shows I'm watching or books I'm reading.
I agree, it’s hard when I have nothing to schedule. I feel like I’m just wasting my time. I decided this year I’m going to use my planner as a planner but then also keep it as a scrap book. So adding photos and memories about how the weather is and what’s been heavy on my mind.. then transition it at the end of each week/month/year into more of a memory keeper! So because I’ve basically got most of my memories kept from planning, it’ll be easy to reference it to make it into a scrapbook. Just an idea. I’m right there with you on dull weeks!
Oh! Also, there’s some lists on Pinterest! If you search on Pinterest for things to put in your planner there are great lists from cleaning to fitness, to-do lists and goals ❤️❤️
Take pictures of what you do during your break and add them to your planner. Take pictures on campus and add those to your planner, so you’ll have pictures of where you study, live, hang out ...

I have never had an EC. It was a lot of money for a planner and I never purchased one. Now I am in love with the discs and I don't think I could do the coils!
I am having memory problems. Hoping planner is the answer.
Deanna Sinclair, I have had YEARS of mental and physical overload and sometimes my brain just goes on its own vacation without taking my body with it! HA! That is why it is ESSENTIAL to use a planner because you won’t have to second guess things..you will KNOW what you need to do, what you actually DID as well as meds you took and when...all those things that we worry about as we get older! Someone desperately needs to do a HUGE version of HP for those of us getting older. 😜🥰

I've been trying to consistently plan over the past year, but no success. I thought Sundays or Saturdays would work, but then my children would want me to come visit them on the weekend and -- well that shot that. I'm thinking I might need to do this on Fridays. What do you think? How did you choose your "planning day"?
