    That "jello" thing is krecek, the cooked cow skin crispy thing like that you ate in the wedding in Solo but in Jogja it usually cooked more dry than we cook in Solo which is more wet and mushy with little bit of hot coconut sauce (or soup).
    You should try the Gudeg in Solo, its different. In my opinion, it's less sweet and not too dry than the Jogja's vers. Greetings from Solo ✌

    Its typical Central and sometimes East Javanese culture to cook food very sweet. Not many Indonesian prefer it. Very different compared to Sumatran or Manadonese cooking thats very spicy. I think the most neutral tasting and healthy food is Sundanese. Glad you have it a go :)

    yu djum's gudeg is the best, in my opinion. unlike other gudeg you find elsewhere, the krecek which you called the gelatenous thing is indeed, genuine fried and dried cow skin which is really tasty if eaten with the chilli peppers accompanying the dish. the young jack fruit is meticulously cooked with low heat for hours using selected coconut sugar, using only locally sourced chicken meat (daging ayam kampung not ayam negeri). the key of enjoying it is to eat altogether the krecek, the gudeg and the rice. so you get the sweetness of the gudeg and the spiciness and the savouriness (gurih?) of the fried dried cow skin. i live in jakarta but i am hooked on yu jum's gudeg. one of her restaurants is my must visit place when i am in jogja. she died recently, sadly. may she rest in peace. her cooking has made a lot of tummies happy

    you know what, yu Djum is passed away today 15thNov. Rest In Peace

  • @koboihenk
    @koboihenk 7 лет назад

    let me add that what distinguishes yu jums gudeg from the rest is the amount of hours it takes to cook the jackfuit so you can really taste the sweet and savoury taste of the gudeg. most other gudegs are not cooked long enough so they taste more like a "sayur nangka" rather than a real "gudeg".

  • @elkiza10

    The eggs is so firm cz it processed using "bacem" style. Long time boiling with different kind of spices. Thats why it colored brown. Btw u should try Nasi balap. (racing rice) in jakal near parsley Its traditional lombok dishes.

    javanese traditional food usually sweet or spicy + sweet.
    like nasi uduk with the "stuf" or nasi kuning with sweet small and cruncy tempe, saute buncis, sambal goreng hati w/ potato (it said sambal but the taste sweet).

    Gudeg is indeed sweet because we put a lot of palm sugar in it. People who suggest you to eat gudeg should warn you. Not all people will like gudeg because of its sweetness. Padangnese or Sundanese people I know usually don't like it. But Javanese are used to sweet dishes so we like it. The egg is firm because we usually cook it for a long time and some people like really chewy egg.

    Gudeg is really sweet and western people doesn't really like sweet food for main course. :) it's more suitable for dessert lol
    According to wikipedia:
    Gudeg is made from young unripe jack fruit (Javanese: gori, Indonesian: nangka muda) boiled for several hours with palm sugar, and coconut milk. Additional spices include garlic, shallot, candle nut, coriander seed, galangal, bay leaves, and teak leaves, the latter giving a reddish brown color to the dish. It is often described as "green jack fruit sweet stew,
