Awesome race, and thanks for sharing. Not anyone can be a cox, and a lot of clubs just pick someone available to be one. Most Clubs do not understand that the cox can make or break a crew. and when they do win very little recognition is given to the cox. ALTHOUGH a good crew will recognise a great cox.

I’ve always loved this cox recording. His energy throughout the race really keeps the rowers composed. The only place I think he falls short is in the repetition of his calls. Still such incredible poise and calls overall.

I absoloutley agree my man! I was frustrated with my repetition of technical calls to an extent however when deciding whether or not to upload it I thought it would be beneficial for a lot of coxes out there to just see the raw unedited version of a World Championships final than not at all. It's an area I'm aware of and already working on for 2022 - I appreciate the feedback!

Nothing wrong with repeating calls that work well

Would you be on board for a video discussion on youtube? I think that a lot of young coxwains could learn a lot from you guys exchanging thoughts...

As a cox who follows your videos to help improve my understanding of rowing technique and what i am asking of my crew, this has been a great video. Would love to see some more audio recording analyse along with suggestions of other calls to make. A video on your expereince with as a rower with coxes and what made them stand out would also be brilliant.

It's not just what they say. It's also how they use the rudder strings and use their weight to help stabilise the boat. Rarely taught.

The cox without question is the key between competing and winning. Having been in many regattas as Masters when up against what on paper should be better crews, the cox has driven the boat way beyond its potential. The most motivating in my experience have been younger, lightweight rowers who with the right calls have made the biggest impact!😎

I'm guessing that as a cox there aren't many instructions your rowers haven't heard before? Just as a conductor doesn't surprise his/her players in the middle of a performance? Otherwise it sounds a huge amount to listen to and react to when you're rowing your guts out!
