Btw for anyone that sees this, you can still use a controller via Bluetooth, but this "retrofit" is necessary if you want to be able to upload light shows and/or your wacky sound effect ideas for the Boombox horn and still be able to record TeslaCam at the same time.
Can't you do it via the USB port in the golvebox?
This is an awesome channel that’s showing how to fix or upgrade things that are not shown on your typical channels! You could’ve shown how to change the cabin air filters, but that can be seen on many many other channels.

Cost cutting 101 Tesla said they are trying to cut costs to increase profits. Been through that many times with other brands well before any supply chain issues.
This had nothing to do with cost when they initially cut it, but it’s time they bring it back to 3/Y. Even the refresh S/X still has it

Hi, a quick question, I bought the topfit dashboard display and tried to install on my 2023 model 3. The cable it is using should be connect to the second port of the computer under the glove box(for 2022 or older version). But it is not there anymore on 2023. Do you know where is that port moved to? (I was referring this video instruction: ruclips.net/video/Twct_gPDZgE/видео.html). Thanks a lot!
I will look around in mine and see if it’s somewhere else. They might have also removed it if it wasn’t being used long enough

No. It is not even a mod really it’s just putting something back to how it used to be. I will confirm with tesla tomorrow though

With this upgrade can you now play the icecream truck theme while driving?
Unfortunately that was completely disabled in an update from a “recall”
Boombox is disabled while driving via software due to regulations for pedestrian safety. No hardware swap can change that.
I really hate that isn't able to be restored. I sure did get a lot of laughs with that feature.

I got one of those so that I could play my own .mp3 collection directly from a memory stick. It didn't work on the first try, and I discovered that the USB cable had become unconnected from its port under the glove box. I got that plugged in, but still, I get no option to listen to the music on the memory stick. I started using a blue tooth connection with my phone to listen to music, and I haven't tried to go at it a third time. I have a '22 Model 3, which was delivered in late June.

All you have to do is partition your flash drive. There are videos on how to do that for the Tesla. That's What I did with my 2022 Tesla USB. I partitioned it in three different sections, a very small section for the horn sounds, and I split the remaining partitions for the dash cam and mp3s.

It shouldn't, as it's just a simple missing module. I do know that if you get Homelink and try to install it yourself, you'll be fucked if you mess it up as you're supposed to have a Tesla professional install it for you.

Late last year they made the change so the way you could check if you’re curious is to try plugging a controller in. If it doesn’t say “play game” for cuphead then data transfer is not there

they seriously give you a cable to put it in yourself? jeeez... I love my Model 3 LR but I am not so sure I would buy one of the new ones: charging cable to be paid extra, no USS without the software dealing with that, USB ports without the functions, etc pp. Not clever. Even if they have shortages, they should simply say: ok when we get the missing parts we put it in for you. and only replace stuff like the USS when they have a functioning alternative (which yet they do not)
This is an aftermarket part. It’s the same functionality any model 3/y had before they removed it. Tparts gives the cable and module, not tesla.

Honestly if this was a bigger deal then you would’ve heard about it more. Most people who have taken delivery of 3/Y since are new owners so they don’t realize this is missing. I’m not defending Tesla for removing this, however it’s not like taking the USS away. The USS removal was a mistake imo
