bear in mind most saws aren't really meant to be sharpened nowadays. it's more of a thing with specialty woodworking saws or with older ones. The ones you find everywhere with the plastic handles get their teeth hardened electrically, and they end up too hard to sharpen by hand unless you have a few free days and absolutely hate yourself.
You can't sharpen a modern saw. The teeth are hardened at the factory to be as hard or harder than a file. A file just skips right off the teeth of modern saws.
a little tip to be more consistent is to first sharpen one full side of the saw and skipping a tooth, then switch the saw around and fully sharpen other side. This way you don't need to alternate angles after each tooth!
Instead of adjusting your angle after every tooth you could do every-other tooth at the same angle then go back over and do every-other tooth at the opposite angle..
I attempt to sharpen multi-tool blades this same way. Sometimes i get it sharp but sometimes I make it worse than it was, lol. I think patience and to stay focused is the trick. Both can be tough for me often 😌
That's the best way, it consistently keeps same angle, and most similar # of strokes on each tooth keeps alignment and kerf proper. Then come from other direction. A flat steel ruler laid on top of teeth can show which teeth are too high, and need attention.
You’re quite the interesting fella
I agree lad
I find this interesting; I’ve never thought about it but it makes sense to sharpen a saw. 👍
It doesn't unless you like working with old hand tools like this guy.
Just buy a new saw or a new blade in most cases

I have an old rusty one in the shed I've been wanting to clean up. Thanks for the advice, cheers
That's a nice old Disston panel saw he has there, I have two a bit larger from about 1840....they don't make em like they used to......
Yeah I bet they made everything different 180 yrs ago!
The new ones can't even be sharpened like the old ones. I refuse to use the new stuff. If I can lol.

Next episode: Running fingernails on chalkboard.
The sound of him sharpening the saw teeth made my teeth hurt
I sharpened a saw last night and can confirm it sounds awful. Noise cancelling headphones are a must.
Something that alot of men cannot do nowadays. Hats off to you sir, thanks for the educational demo.

Hey buddy, do you have any longer form content on sharpening saws?
Can't show the filing without showing setting the teeth!! Lol lobe your stuff man.
He is so cute
Why not skip the opposing angled teeth and run the same angel down the saw, then run the opposing angle up the saw?
