- Visit with Paul Burlison at his home - Fall, 1993
I do want to clarify some things about this video: #1 - It was a long time ago (I was in my mid 20's, a certified music nerd, and meeting one of my all time guitar heroes). #2 - I appologize for all the rambling (see #1). All that said, this is a once in a lifetime visit with one of the architects of rock & roll/rockabilly guitar playing. I decided to share this video with fans of Paul and his playing as opposed to just keeping it in my private collection because I feel that this is rare footage. Anyway, enjoy!
This is incredible. Very cool. He really got into it after he tuned up. Those old guitars are so resonant. Thank you so much. A historic music legend.
Thanks! He was a legend and I am thankful to have spent this time with him...and thankful to be able to share this footage with folks. 🥰
I had the very pleasure meeting Paul personally mephis 2001 he was telling me how his mother gave him money to buy some new shoes when he was young just a teenager instead he brought a second hand guitar then played along with by listening to country singers such as hank Williams and Jimmy Rodgers Webb pearce and how one day Elvis came to him and Johnny burnette played in his dad's garage he could have been playing for Elvis but story goes Elvis went to Sun records Johnny tried to but they didn't want another Elvis and so they so paul joined up the trio with Dorsey when Dorsey came out the army .Great day he introduced me to Billy Lee Reliey and Eddie Bond the daughter of Charlie feathers who just recently past away . It was all round great weekend.
This is precious footage - thanks so much!
So glad that you enjoyed it! Thanks! 😊
Thank the lord for youtube so that a piece of American Music History like this could be shared , this is rare indeed. Thank you for sharing this awesome vid.
Thanks! Glad to be able to share it with folks. 😊

One of the Heroes in Rockabillyguitar
Agreed! Thanks! 🙂
Really Snidge...Live at age 64.(after 30 yrs of retirement).w/out amp or re-cuts in a studio...This only shows P. Burlison had more charisma and talent than what you want to admit Snidge. Thanks to the poster..God Bless
Thanks so much! Glad that I video'd this and was able to share it with you folks. 🙂
Thank you very much!!
You are so welcome! 🙂
Dont be sorry very happy to see this! There is very little about PB on the net -thanks
he may not have been the greatest picker, but it's obvious that we was a very nice man... to let a stranger in and show him some licks. here's to you paul, a true rockabilly.
absolutely and let him film his house! A true gent of the old school!
I think he was quite a good picker for his time - he appears to be playing OK this this video?
My thoughts exactly: he was a very kind gentleman. I am do glad that I had a camera and recorded this that day...and am able to share it with you folks. 😊
I met him in the early 90's. The most utterly magnanimous person I have ever met. Understatement. Offered to pick me up at the airport. Offered to let me play with him and Roland Janes (I am the worst guitarist ever so passed) at Philips International. Showed me around Memphis and showed me everywhere me would run into Elvis.
wow this is an awesome video i used to see paul a lot back in the 80s and early 90s he was an electrician and i worked around him some he also used to be in a barbershop in horn lake ms. where i used to get my haircut he would hang out in there sometimes he was good friends with the barber a guy named b.j. but i never got to see him actually play i heard the records and talked to the man but never saw him personally with a guitar in his hand thanks for posting this video.
You are so welcome. Glad that you enjoyed it. 😊
One of the neatest videos I've found for a long time! Thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome, thanks! 😊
Lo ponen a sufrir. Los solos que tocaba Paul fueron los de Tear ir up, Oh Babe baby y Midnight train. En los demás fue solista Grady Martín.
Cool video. Paul was the bee's knees!
Thanks SuperAlex655...glad you enjoyed it!
=)
He only played on 4 songs with Burnette - Tear It Up, You´re undecided, Oh baby babe and Midnight Train.
Révisionnist. Shut up.
Mestre no estilo, e inconfundível. maneco - Poro Alegre-RS - Brasil.
Agreed! 🙂
PB didnt play All By Myself either .. funny when B tries to play If You Want It Enough the interviewer says " I could never figure out the part to that" at 09.34 .. Burlison couldn´t figure it out either because it probably wasn´t him playing the original .. sounds like hank Garland even though it is a very very simple guitar part.
“If your coming to Sacramento dome time” dude is like nah I’m good
😄
You're right. As to "If you want it Enough". Neither P. Burlison Nor Dorsey Burnette were at the sessions in 1957--Only four cuts-...All mediocre country songs of the day..Nothing like the raw rockabilly sounds they created in the 1956 sessions in NY and Nashville..
ha ha .-. Your Baby Blue Eyes was NOT Burlison it was Grady Martin .. without any doubt whatsoever.
Guitar hero pity you kept rabbiting
Ha! I was very nervous; as would anyone who was meeting one of their musical heroes...
find a guitar with all the strings
