Neil is bang on here. It's the private money and the corporations, friends. We're are far less dangerous to corporations and government when we're divided. Our neighbors are not enemies. Wherever you are on the political spectrum-you are my neighbor, and I am sending you love and light tonight.
What i dont understand is how this division was so easily implemented (understanding it was a long process starting years ago in the media) with lies in the name of democracy ….when imo democracy is working together to find the best way forward for all ,not :its my way or you’re un American .
"We're far less dangerous, ..." Interesting insight. Thanks! Love and light right back at ya, neighbour! I'm from Canada (saw Neil Young twice in his home town). 🎸💌
I have always loved Neil's music no matter if he is playing Rock & Roll , Country , Punk Rock . When he is alone or with a band it's all great . But most of all , he gives , he gives and doesn't talk about it , Farmers , The Bridge School and others . He shares his fortune with others and wants nothing back .
I think it was Pete Townshend who said there's nothing to replace playing for an audience in his life and I imagine most musicians and performers feel like that, they'll play as long as they can. Keith Richards said he wouldn't mind dying on stage, another good example.
One of my memories of my misspent youth : In Toronto, the buses didn’t run all night. In “Yorkville,” folksinger Vicky Taylor made the floor of her Avenue Road apartment available for homeless musicians /“crashers.” One morning, I was having coffee with Vicky, overlooking a dozen sleeping hippies when she casually said: “Neil Young had your spot last night.” I recall John Kay (Steppenwolf) rummaging through his duffle-bag. He was a “folkie” and carried a well-worn small Gibson acoustic . . . Gone are the days.
This is why you write & sing great songs Neil, you love life & have good common sense IMO. I also had epilepsy as a child & sometimes I think this is why I think the way I do at the age of 73. You beat the odds & we are glad you did!
I have always love his music, but his politics is equally brilliant. Who would have thought he is a great all round huma being & a brilliant songwriter, singer & genius!
This is almost 9 years old and more true than ever, with the Technocrats swarming around the president. Neil was very gracious to Dan Rather and generous with his replies. He is a Top 10 North American songwriter, performer and recording artist.
Neil must have been behaving himself for a bit before this interview, "straight as a pin" for little while. This is by far the most coherent I have ever heard him express himself. Here and there, Neil is very eloquent and profound. Maybe there are lots of Neil Young interviews like this one, but I haven't heard them ...😊 Dan Rather does a great job here, asking Neil the right questions ! 😊😊😊
Back in Yorkville, late 60s, basement club . . . I heard you for the first time. So glad to see you looking so good and sounding so smart. You'll be playing at my funeral.
Neil Young is right about this. We the people can't even begin to challenge the status quo if we are so preoccupied with fighting each other instead of organising ourselves in a way where we can make demands for better living standards and proper accountability for the elites.
Such a wonderful man! What is the soul of Rock and Roll? Neil Young. The lyrics stand alone. The ideas stand alone. The music stands alone. together they create a symphony of deep meaning and reflection. Then you see Neil live and discover that the performance rises the symphony to an entirely heightened, raw, emotional level. Thank you Neil for reaching into our hearts and minds and planting the seeds of peace, love, justice, mortality and immortality.
All of Mr. Soul's music has brought many enjoyable years to us. "For the Turnstiles" is one tune I simply get chills listening to. Thanks Dan for the interview.
I have always loved Neil. He's been a major part of my life since I first heard him sing with Springfield, and I'm just a few years younger than he. I love listening to his music, playing his music, and listening to his thoughts. Neil is a wonderful human being. And the really cool thing is people will be listening to him "speak" for as long as "this old world keeps spinning round." I'll say it again, I love you Neil!
He's still on it. And what I mean by that is the awareness of moment to moment that so infuses Neil Young's music and his Way. I still listen to songs like "The Loner", "Powderfinger", "Tell Me Why", and "Interstate". He's had experience in The Belly of the beast Music Business, and a lot of other contexts. A good interview.
One of the truly greatest interview periods I have ever seen. The scope and depth of this interview from both men is like looking at a beautiful painting.
Nobody pisses me off the way Neil Young does, because he resonates so deeply with me. I see my worst in him as well as my potential to be all my ego perceives 🎉
For context, it's really necessary to know when this interview took place. The Pono t-shirt offers some clue (roughly 2015?), after "This Note's for You" and before Trump's first term. But why would you publish it without providing the date?
"24 and there's so much more" . . . . From Old Man. I recall where I was when I first heard that song. I thought . . . Wow, Neil and I are the same age. Fast forward . . . . we also share the same politics!
There are many chains the corporations seek to wield, but compliance and obedience cannot survive scrutiny. A missed opportunity perhaps, for those extolling freedom and individuality.
re Rust Never Sleeps..... The phrase was an headline for a 1970s Meineke Muffler print and billboard ad campaign. It was coined by DEVO's Gerald Casale and Mark Mothersbough who got the contract when they had a graphic design biz in Akron, OH. When Neil saw one of their early pre-MTV videos and asked them to be in his film, Human Highway, he asked if he could borrow the phrase. From the book "DEVO in Ohio"
Thank you Neil, I knew I would see you sometime soon. I kept thinking about your song, "Keep on rocking in the free world". I hope you don't have to change it. From Canada, all my best wishes to you. ❤🇨🇦
Wow, what an amazing expressive interview. To hear Neil vocalize thoughts like Rock and Roll, politics etc with such deep thoughts is very informative. Two very intelligent individuals discussing some cool thoughts.
Neil articulates his ideas perfectly. He's bang-on about the divide factor we are all feeling. Kudos Neil! Rock On! (and keep up the acoustic stuff too).
Neil speaks the truth. That's why we have long called the MSM the corporate media and yes the red/blue color map is absurd. Simple adversity sells well and resonates in simple minds.
It’s funny that Neal sided with the pharmaceutical companies against Joe Rogan‘s right to tell people what he had learned. I’m still a wife fan of him and his music, but Neal and the people who jumped on that threat to Spotify reminded my 65 year old ass, try not to be inconsistent, especially when publicly attacking another person what they think, especially in a democracy.
I could give two shits of Neil Young is left or right leaning politically. He has the stones to stand up for what he believes in. Keep On Rockin' In The Free World!
No surprise but a huge comfort to know that Neil and at least some of the nation are on the same page. We are watching the fall of a nation. Karma kicks ass.
Dan Rather on Neil's music --- "Why do it ?" Neil Young -- "I love it." Dan Blather - keeps on yackking, to hear himself talk or maybe to let viewers know how informed he is. Like he is trying to change Neil Young's mind on the subject. 🤡 Peace with Purple.

I’m gonna live me life as much to the fullest inspired transpired, then expire. None of this will matter then💪🏻🤙🏻
"CORPORACY" ... brilliant as always ! ... and it is even slowly turning into plain and hard AUTOCRACY/OLIGARCHY mix, right in front of our eyes. (As seen from abroad, with all the pros and cons of it, of course) Respect Mr. Young.
We are glad you are still here too Neil and Dan. Thank you Sirs! Don't worry, we're makin stuff better. Also, way less hours per week than working in the war zone. Those were 84 hour weeks. Talk about being in the suk!

Feels good listening to Neil.
Even when the world is falling apart it's good to know that common sense is not completely dead.
Long May You Run , Neil
Neil is absolutely correct! The big money has taken over and these guys only care about one thing, themselves!
You’re correct. And Odirtbag and Obiden are the perfect examples of that.
@ScottSimmons-fn5dz, what about Trump and Maga Republicans minions? No one has divided a country like Trump and his Republicans ass kisses .

Grew up hearing his music, my mother passed in '74❤️ so his music takes me back to good years with mom, wonderful interview

Your music is awesome Neil and has gotten me thru good times and bad. Love it. Wishing you great health and happiness forever .
One of the all-time greats, period.

Sad to see that you are a member of the Neil Young Woke-Club, meaning hating America and now of course Donald Trump!
You people are a joke!!!

I play. I sing. i cry when I do both. So i face the drummer. And try to remember to breathe.
Yes, it was in Rolling Stone interviews.

The thing is, Dan changed the subject before Neil completed his comments about it.
GET Rid of Dan Rather
60 Minutes has an editorial brand stamp addiction to wanting to be relevant to an imagined middle, so nobody with a brain is ever satisfied.
Dan must not want to (really) hear the answer. "Far Left", indeed.
Dan's a corporate hack.
Agenda setting and framing 101.
