I learned a lot today. Before "blaming/condemning" without evidence that all the problems of a MoBo are on the Super I/O IC (EC), it is easier to check the firmware of each SPIFlash memory and also cheaper than buying and still having to solder correctly 128 pins. Excellent repair. Congratulations. Thank you very much for sharing. All the best.

Do you think the BIOS got corrupted simple because the CR-2032 battery voltage was too low? That is a possibility. It could also be caused by other power issues and by "bit rot" in laptops that just sit on the shelf for ages.

I'm not sure if I will ever be brave enough to use a BIOS programmer. The hexadecimal doesn't bother me, since I've been programming computers since 1975. I just don't like to desolder and solder multi-pin components. Any SMD with more than two pins is a challenge to me. I guess I need more practice.

Just buy a hot air station, and practice on some junk boards. Its easy, trust me.

@@dimitrismaster I have transplanted a few USB3 ports between boards. It takes a lot of heat and patience.

@@dimitrismaster yes. Heat the buggers up as hot as you like. Im amazed how much heat they can handle. Station plus tweezers and good solder and flux. Go for it.
