"Statler, did you catch that final world premiere from Naughty Dog?" "Yes i did, Waldorf, but it was just a movie, i would have preferred to see some Gameplay." "It's a Naughty Dog game, Statler, that _was_ gameplay!" Oooohohohohohoho!
Without doubt, scripted beforehand for the specific purpose of being an indirect apology from Keighley for the previous year. Taking a live, public roasting like this, complete with much the same criticisms people made back then was a fine way for Geoff to do it.
I rather prefer if they directly apologize to the devs who they disrespect with than this mockery of the situation as a "joke" But hey people laughing right? "Lol they make jokes about the last tga wrap it up situation haha so quirky lol its ok now everyone is laughing they are the good guys now"
@@sho9585 It's self deprecating humour while they also actively changed things by mentioning and placing massive importance on layoffs. Astrobot winning is also part of that. I swear y'all wouldn't be happy no matter what they did.
@@sho9585Obviously I can't confirm it, but I feel like he probably did apologize behind closed doors, otherwise I don't think Swen would have showed up.
Not only did he indirectly address last year's controversy by joking about it with these guys, but he also had about 3 other times where he DIRECTLY tried to make amends about it. He talked about the game industry in general, made a big spotlight for the massive layoffs, and he even had the last year's winner give a full 3 minute speech on that controversy AND the gaming industry as a whole literallyright before they announced the game of the year, the only thing that some people care about. Don't know if anyone can get too mad at that
Unfortunately people are still getting mad :( They're in here saying joking away your criticisms is tone-deaf and disrespectful. I swear, people aren't willing to forgive anyone judged as "elite", even when they acknowledge their mistakes and try to actively remedy them. Anyone with a shred of emotional intelligence can tell Geoff Keighley clearly cares about games and is trying to make an awards show that's both allowing us to recognize the creators of the games we love as well as hype up future releases. It's a tough balancing act, but I think this year really knocked it out of the park.
This is the first time I actually laugh when Muppets shows up. The Kojima one was great. As much as I love Elden Ring, I hope these two would come back and roast Geoff on how much he's been glazing Elden Ring and Fromsoft as well.
No it was definitely written by them. It worked like a charm two since they can be self referencial and then not actually fix the problems their making fun of themselves for.
Why? It’s bigger than many so call standalone games and arguably better in quality than anything that came out this year. If they sold it as a spin off game like what they’re doing with Nughtreign, nobody would find it strange. If you don’t want to see one being nominated, then tell the industry to pick up their pace to make “full games” that are better than a DLC.
@@skittlecornnation4323 Monopoly what? That's not how monopoly works. Others games weren't there because their quality got beaten up by SoTE, not because FromSoft owns the industry.
I never watch TGA because I find Geoff boring and usually watch all the trailers afterwards, but this got recommended to me by RUclips and I genuinely wouldn't mind for those two to be full-time hosts (though they probably wouldn't want that) XD
I enjoyed them, but all this really shows me is that they understand the criticisms but won't actually do anything to improve the show. Here's hoping next awards proves me wrong
My guy... They gave creators more time to talk, spent way less time having celebrities come out and self-indulge, they made a whole award and video around people who are making a difference behind-the-scenes to developers, they showed awareness of industry issues, they improved security, they let people speak out against the greediness of the industry, they voted GOTY with true heart and not with corporate interests in mind... If you think *none* of that is "actually doing anything" then you simply have just made up your own mind and no amount of evidence to the contrary will change it.
These two are timeless, they have been memeing on people for half a century now. I never get tired of em.

That's the part I liked best... roasting Geoff by calling him a sell out.
Ok but he actually is a sellout. Just ironic he paid the Jim Henson company to say that
Best part of the whole show’s history
I genuinely got interested in the livestream whenever these two showed up
I will be disappointed if they don't come back for next year
I think it’s been different muppets every year. I’m not sure if they’ve done repeats since they started having muppets as guests.
Actual real muppets for a change
Lots of people hated them, but I found them genuinely funny and not too overplayed
They were only on the show a few times. They hardly overstayed their welcome.
Underplayed if you ask me
I haven't seen a single person who disliked their inclusion personally
How dare they hate them?!
It’s stupid and doesn’t add anything to the already corporate slop
