That's what hooked me on this song. At the time I first heard it my son had broken my heart with really poor choices. I was so broken; cried a lot. In time he realized that he had made a huge mistake; and he got back on track! Time heals all wounds and love conquers all. All kinds of love! Parent's love for child is strongest love of all!

It's really ironic how upset people are getting over this video. In case you didn't read the video, this music video is a homage to Robert Palmer's music video for Simply Irresistible. This music is an exact replica of the music video for Simply Irresistible apart from the genders that are being exploited are reversed. Ingrid is showing how we, as a society, are okay with females being used as sexual icons (like they are in Palmer's music video) but as soon as males are seen as feminine or sexual icons (like they are in Michaelson's music video) there is a massive uproar. This music video is pretty genius if you ask me and my respect for Ingrid Michaelson has only just increased.
osnapitzjano Well, then she failed cause there has not been a "massive" uproar (you can check the like/dislike bar). And males are being objectified all the time. PS: I like both the song and the video.
osnapitzjano I find that it proves how feminists who rant about "objectification" in music videos are hysterical and not to be taken seriously. The roles are reversed here and there is no uproar. The approval rating is over 90% positive and looking over the top comments, no one is outraged. They actually went out of their way to provoke it, and virtually nothing happened. No one cares about objectification unless it's the helpless women with no agency - the preposterous argument cock-skinning feminazis constantly inundate us with.
As a heterosexual male, this song and video has been one of my guilty pleasures for a long time. I love to see how confident and beautiful the men are. It helps me remember that it's okay to want to be pretty sometimes.
It's all good man. I've been a pretty boy all my life and it's hard being a heterosexual pretty boy adult, but in highschool lots of girls chased me. If you need makeup and fancy clothes to feel pretty that's cool, or if you have a thin build with fine facial features, bright hair and bright eyes that's cool too.
This song comes on the overhead radio at my job EVERY SINGLE BLESSED DAY!!! I'd never heard of it before and this was the first time I've seen the video. I'm a big fan of the Robert Palmer original so this just made me really happy!
In 2014, when I was two months away from leaving Manhattan, I got a job at a coffee shop in midtown. I was broke and had to walk from 85th and Amsterdam to 44th and 6th. This song was on my playlist during my trek and made my departure easier. Chvrches has been one of my best friends since.
This video is a piece of art, if you didn't read the title this is an "Homage to Robert Palmer's "Simply Irresistible". It represents how society is ok with girls being used as sexual icons and how a reverse act of males as sexual icons can cause an uproar and by the looks of the comments this is what happened. Goal achieved. It's time to educate people about sexuality, sex, gender, and gender roles.
I think the video is deeper than that though, because men are sexualized every day in the industry. Just because you put a man in a dress and put makeup on him doesn't really sexualize him. It just makes him look more feminine.
I personally think this video puts all the men and women involved into about the same light. The women backup dancers are wearing very right clothing as well as the men and even Ingrid herself is wearing a much more revealing outfit than she usually does in a music video.
There's an unescapable message of equality of men and women here. Women are stronger than we give them credit for and can, in fact, be the pursuer rather than the pursued. I think it breaks down the sexist stereotype and when it comes down to it, we're all just people loving people. Not men, women, transgendered, gay, straight, bi... We're people pursuing people. I first heard this song on the radio when I was about 9 years old in 2014-15. It was been living in my head NON STOP since then and I was convinced it was a song I heard in my dreams. I could never find it online because I thought the lyrics were "I like girls, jinks, boys, jinks girls". Last week, I was eating at a chinese restaurant with my family when I could *very* faintly hear that "ahAhahAhaAh" on the radio in the next room. I LAUNCHED out of my seat, whipped out my phone, ran in and held up my phone with the shazam app to the speaker. The sheer frustration I was in when I found out it was "girls CHASE boys" is indescribable, but it was such a surreal experience to finally find this song.
| Hello, my dream is to be a singer, I have some covers on my channel, I know, it´s a lot to ask of, but could you please check it out? Please help me make my dream come true, I’ll be very grateful |
Hey for all for all of you who view this video for the first time and think something like "WTH This video is gay and stuff", I will say my interpretation of the video and hope that you won't be quick to judge and think clearly on how this video's message is not just that. That being said this video is clearly about the gender issue that's still being happening today like how the media objectifies women (a great example would be Thicke's Blurred Lines) and how women react to them being objectified (an example would be Lily Allen's "Hard Out Here".) This video starts out with men dressed up like the women in the "Simply Irresistible" music video and it comes out as a revenge from making women look stupid in other music videos. As the song progresses and when Ingrid sings "Let's just call it over" one by one the men are being replaced by female dancers. This is what this video is about. It's saying that there's practically no difference between men and women and that we are all equal. The bridge clearly states that as well; "I've got 2 hands, one beating heart and I'll be alright. I'm gonna be alright." So as long as you're a human then you have nothing to be ashamed of. All of the dancers and Ingrid are having fun by the end of the video and they're just dancing and celebrating. We should be happy about ourselves and don't hate on other people as well. "Let's not make it harder than it has to be. It's all the same thing." ;)
Jen G It started as a breakup song but ended up as this: "Girls Chase Boys started out as a break up song but took on a *deeper meaning* as I continued writing. More than just being about my experience, its focus shifted to include the idea that, _no matter who or how we love, we are all the same._ The video takes that idea one step further, and attempts to turn stereotypical gender roles on their head." -Ingrid Michaelson on her Facebook page. And if you really know Ingrid's style you'd notice that every move she makes has significance to it. She wouldn't just do a parody; she would make it into a message.
As a dude, A usually fairly masculine dude, I think this would have been a super fun song to be in, I usually dont like makeup (How it feels on my skin) but it just looks like everyone's having a blast. People take shit too seriously sometimes, myself included. This song reminds me, Lets not make it harder than it has to be.
I just gotta say, the black guy right behind ingrid is just hottttttttttttttttttttttttt and he looks like he rlly likes being in the movie and his makeup just suits him so well and im so obsessed with him right now hahahahaha
It's pretty much an exact copy of Robert Palmer's Simply Irresistible music video. Which she states in the damn title. So to the people that are complaining STFU already.
J. Doryean Yes and no. Robert Palmer wasn't wearing a dress in that video, and the girls didn't have hairy legs. Gender bending, not gender swapping, is what's making people squirm. You can't help how you feel, and in a way, this does make me feel slightly uncomfortable, but I recognize that feeling is irrational and I try to move past it.
Lia Walsh 1) The video isn't about breaking down objectification of women 2) Traditionally masculine men have been objectified in video plenty of times before...3) The video *is* about blurring the lines between the two genders so we see we're really not all that different.
Now THIS interpretation I like. It actually makes sense, thank you. I was wondering why the people who sent me here were claiming it was some sort of reversal of sexism, and yet I didn't feel offended in the slightest. Your interpretation, though, that actually seems to have some merit.
My mom showed me this song because of all the dancing men. She knew what it was about but I was really confused on what she meant cause I was a young child. My sister played this in the car and gave me nostalgia. Ngl I’m sorta mad my mom was making fun of this, it’s an amazing song and we all know the meaning right now. I want to hear this in the radio.
I used to work in a casino, and this was one of the few songs they played over the intercom that didn't make me want to die. I could barely hear it, as with most of the music on their playlists, so I never knew what to look up. Today my telephone identified it while it played in a store, and now it's so fulfilling to play it through proper headphones and hear the texture of it all. Delightful song, lovely lyrics.
max awsumb and I would say I hate you for using that word. Please tell me you saw that parody of the Millennial Chevy commercial or you won’t get why I said that.
"All the broken hearts in the world still beat, let's not make it harder than it has to be." 💕🩷💔 "I'm a little let down, but I'm not dead." 💜💜💜 "I got two hands, one beating heart and I'll be alright." 🩷💕💜 Love the tribute/homage to Robert Palmer's Simply Irresistible music video 🩷💜💕
It's interesting how when the women in Robert's video are portrayed, we have accepted this look and ideology, and it's okay to see women being sexualized. Yet when viewing men, it's seen through a different lens. This video makes one think very critically. Great job Ingrid!
Its not men being sexualized.... it's the fact they look homosexual. You see male models in women's music videos all the time and no one says anything.
Eric Feick you can’t “look” homosexual. Many gay men hate wearing make up, same as many straight men. What you mean is that they perhaps look more “feminine” because we typically associate makeup with women in our society
@@ericfeick4270 There is no "looking homosexual." It's not as if women wearing those things occurs naturally, either, women are gaudily sexualized like this as some kind of norm, and the video simply reverses it towards men to show ridiculous it truly is. Women wearing these things, but not men is just a random standard someone decided to pull out of their butt and people have simply gotten used to it. Not to mention that make-up and all that jazz were worn by men first. I mean, really, many people don't even question anything or look beyond what's right in front of their noses, I guess.
honestly, both the videos are equally stupid... 2 great songs, 2 lousy annoying videos... on a different topic, i always thought this song was by Sara Bareilles, is she singing backup by any chance?
Take it a step further and think about why men and women are objectified differently. Women are objectified for our bodies because our sexual value comes from how young we look and that is connected to fertility . Men are objectified for their ability to provide and protect. It's feminist dogma to think men aren't objectified. 90 percent of homeless are male.. And they are disposable to society. You can look up Karen Straughan and her video The Disposable Male.
I don't know which I love more... the video or the song. Why do I have to choose? If there is one thing this video taught me is that I don't need to choose!
This song does target gay acceptance, and transgender acceptance, and basically every form of civil right you can think of. But the music video is where I am picking up this theme, not the lyrics. People seem to be missing one of the main points in the song- it doesn't matter who initiates in a relationship. A girl can ask a boy can ask a girl--- can ask a girl can ask a girl can ask 2 boys and 1 girl. Why should it matter? We are just complicating things by putting stupid societal rules on how people date and love and interact. It's ridiculous- and I really like the lyrics for stressing this.
Judge Judy also, it challenges the norm that boys are supposed to chase girls and girls are just supposed to sit and wait for a guy to come along rather than talk about what THEY want
My God! A pop singer beyond compare. and a perfectly written pop song for folks who know and love the real thing. All those pink tank tops (!) and all the makeup and that voice! I have a big crush on this gal: Beyonce be damned: this is a real woman..
I am a conservative Christian and find this video to be a beautiful piece of art. I was sincerely moved at the simplicity used to reflect how love does not discriminate. I am proud of this video and of Ingrid's message. I apologize how people of the same faith and political affiliations have offended an hurt others, not all of us think that way.
You sir, are awesome. There are not many men like you. I'm a liberal, and dare I say it, atheist, and the fact you are so open minded restores my faith (slightly) in humanity. Too often I see men, and women sometimes, that close their minds and judge before they know anything. Plus, you write well. Rather legibly might I add. Shows how education pays off. Ignorant people seem quick to judge.
Am playing this song today. For my friend who passed on yesterday. I would watch her and my brother dance to this everyday from work. We would put it on repeat and do all crazy moves. MHSRIP.
they look good, boys look really good in heels too. youre just mean and close minded if you hate this video solely because of the fact the boys are wearing makeup and pink, grow up, thank you goodbye
You do know that heels were invented for men to wear as a fashion of the workplace. But women adopted it after men realized they could never find a hard enough element to support their stature, weight and still look stylish as a heel.
When I first heard this, thought she was saying "cheese boys, cheese curls" and I was googling aimlessly for it. Good thing I came across it on Spotify!
The way the message is portrayed is so good that you don't even realize the subtle differences the first time you watch it. They guys are wearing makeup and dancing and stuff but as the video goes on, they finally incorporate women into the video with the same outfits, and you don't notice it (at least I didn't). This is incredible because it shows that no matter our sexual interests or hobbies, we're all the same, we all feel the same, and we shouldn't judge each other based on it. edit: you guys are so weird, can i not just hypothesize and perceive it my own way without you feeling the need to invalidate the lgbtq+ community in my replies or something 😭 so weird
watch the Simply Irresistible music video by Robert Palmer... the thing is that well this video should've had just boys and them kinda of lifeless... but on a side note his video was risque and oversexualized for its time... tame and lame by our standards today...
The song is supposed to act as an olive branch to the opposite sex, and the video serves as a means to further that peace offering. Michaelson is trying to show how both sexes objectify and use (in different ways, mind you) one another during courtship. Because the objectification of the male is much more subtle in real life, she chooses to compare apples to apples by portraying men as we usually see women in the media today. Hence, the emphasis on their beauty and sex appeal. But the video, truly drives home this point of comparable objectification, when some of the male dancers are literally replaced by females. Thus cementing this idea of male/female interchangeability. When combined with such lyrics as,: "You played me now I play you too, Let's just call it over... All the broken hearts in the world still beat Let's not make it harder than it has to be" it's not difficult to see that Michaelson is simply trying to be fair when analyzing the modern relationship. Because she thinks both sexes use and exploit each other, she's trying to ameliorate the feeling of betrayal both parties feel when discovering the true intentions their partner had for their relationship. She comes to the conclusion that since both sexes do awful things when pursuing/"chasing" one another, we shouldn't hold any grudges. After all, even when our heart has been ripped to shreds, it does, in fact, still beat. TLDR: Breakups hurt, but get over it... we're all just assholes
Knowing Robert Palmer's Original, being from that generation, I love what Ingrid & her team did with this! Wow if only I could Rock Red lipstick like that! Awesome song, always in my head, the day after a first date, makes me feel connected and smile a while, get's you through the pain, of knowing, here we go again!
Agree
Well said!
The song is about breaking up and it's a parody of Robert Palmer. Don't over think it.
Jen G It started as a breakup song but ended up as this:
"Girls Chase Boys started out as a break up song but took on a *deeper meaning* as I continued writing. More than just being about my experience, its focus shifted to include the idea that, _no matter who or how we love, we are all the same._
The video takes that idea one step further, and attempts to turn stereotypical gender roles on their head." -Ingrid Michaelson on her Facebook page.
This song reminds me, Lets not make it harder than it has to be.
this song randomly got stuck in my head so now I'm here

0:46 I AM SURPEISED AT THE MOVE OF THE BLACK MAN IN THE MIDDLE. IS HE A MODEL? OR A DANCER?
Such an underrated song its crazy. Literally lives rent free in my head. Also idk why but her appearance and voice makes my soul feel warm
I just gotta say, the black guy right behind ingrid is just hottttttttttttttttttttttttt and he looks like he rlly likes being in the movie and his makeup just suits him so well and im so obsessed with him right now hahahahaha
He reminds me of King Bach without facial hair 😂😂😂

She looks pretty, to everyone that thinks this video makes them uncomfortable, GROW UP, no but seriously? My 7 year old sister loved it
Only some parts are..... weird
ShastaOrange Yeah, I didn't mean to make anyone feel bad.
***** No, but I wish.

6 years later.....
This song is stuck in my head, I remember this song when I was 7
Lia Walsh 1) The video isn't about breaking down objectification of women 2) Traditionally masculine men have been objectified in video plenty of times before...3) The video *is* about blurring the lines between the two genders so we see we're really not all that different.
Now THIS interpretation I like. It actually makes sense, thank you.
I was wondering why the people who sent me here were claiming it was some sort of reversal of sexism, and yet I didn't feel offended in the slightest.
Your interpretation, though, that actually seems to have some merit.
Johnny Kronaz Thanks, though I can't take credit because I'm really just paraphrasing what Ingrid has said. :)

How is it possible I have more 1+ on this than On any other post?
I used to work in a casino, and this was one of the few songs they played over the intercom that didn't make me want to die. I could barely hear it, as with most of the music on their playlists, so I never knew what to look up. Today my telephone identified it while it played in a store, and now it's so fulfilling to play it through proper headphones and hear the texture of it all. Delightful song, lovely lyrics.
"Take me back"

Very nice song. But disconcerting video kind of wrecks the sweetness of her voice and the lyric.
Also, I don't feel as if I were made more socially aware for having watched this.
Shiva Ganesha I hope she produces a better video for her song
its based of a different song so thats why it looks like that the song simply irrasiable by robert palmers

I thought that till I realized it was a parody of Simply Irresistible.
Seven years later, I'm a teenager, and this song is still superior and is constantly stuck playing on repeat in my head.
I was cracking up the entire time...especially the epic guitar solo at 2:42
;)
This song does target gay acceptance, and transgender acceptance, and basically every form of civil right you can think of. But the music video is where I am picking up this theme, not the lyrics.
People seem to be missing one of the main points in the song- it doesn't matter who initiates in a relationship. A girl can ask a boy can ask a girl--- can ask a girl can ask a girl can ask 2 boys and 1 girl. Why should it matter? We are just complicating things by putting stupid societal rules on how people date and love and interact. It's ridiculous- and I really like the lyrics for stressing this.
What the hell thats so nice
I think you can hear it also in the lyrics "Let's not make it harder than it has to be, it's all the same thing" :)
Judge Judy also, it challenges the norm that boys are supposed to chase girls and girls are just supposed to sit and wait for a guy to come along rather than talk about what THEY want
The guy on the right who screws up the clapping at 2:57 has the best reaction. Hilarious.

My God! A pop singer beyond compare. and a perfectly written pop song for folks who know and love the real thing. All those pink tank tops (!) and all the makeup and that voice! I have a big crush on this gal: Beyonce be damned: this is a real woman..
Amen to that!!!
Why do you need to damn Beyonce to proclaim Ingrid a "real woman"? I am certain neither of them feels that the other doesn't qualify.
Ashley White Thank you very much! I am very humbled by your compliments and recognition.
Am playing this song today. For my friend who passed on yesterday. I would watch her and my brother dance to this everyday from work. We would put it on repeat and do all crazy moves. MHSRIP.

lol, no matter what I do, I doubt i'd look good in heels, besides the fact that I can't walk in them
Their makeup is on fucking point
You do know that heels were invented for men to wear as a fashion of the workplace. But women adopted it after men realized they could never find a hard enough element to support their stature, weight and still look stylish as a heel.

When I first heard this, thought she was saying "cheese boys, cheese curls" and I was googling aimlessly for it. Good thing I came across it on Spotify!
No comments yet about the best part of this video? The ukulele gag at 02:43!!!
The video has nothing to do with the song tho. The only things in common IS the boys n girls in the vid and the lyrics LOL.

Alexander Heinecke XD
See, the right way to enjoy this video
Can someone explain to me the music video? I'm so lost
watch the Simply Irresistible music video by Robert Palmer... the thing is that well this video should've had just boys and them kinda of lifeless... but on a side note his video was risque and oversexualized for its time... tame and lame by our standards today...
When combined with such lyrics as,:
"You played me now I play you too,
Let's just call it over...
All the broken hearts in the world still beat
Let's not make it harder than it has to be"
it's not difficult to see that Michaelson is simply trying to be fair when analyzing the modern relationship.
Mike Walsh Do you happen to have degree in Literature or Critical Writing? I could not have analysed it better myself; I even understood more as well.
