Calum's version is good but I've been listening this awesome song with great beats and beautiful voice SIX YEARS. is impossible for me prefer the new version
This song has been a banger since the day it came out and proves one thing for certain, Robyn is probably the most important pop star who at the same time is both underrated and super influential. Every song she has ever dropped is perfection and what an awesome thing it was when she got to be on SNL that was amazing. This song seriously feels just as fresh as when it dropped.
I love how this song is such a sad but upbeat song at the same time. Like people dance to it at clubs although it’s about a woman being heart broken seeing someone she has feelings for dancing with someone else and she’s just all alone. It’s weirdly comforting and beautiful.
Same! They show is awesome! I frog about this song too! I was born in '88 so I was still kinda little in the 90s. I wish I could have been a teenager during that time!
Calum’s version is much, much better. her voice is pitchy and the beat is off. I don’t know who Robyn is, but my first impression of her is not impressive.
Ok let me set this straight. I'm not here to hate or something and I acknowledge the fact that Calum did an amazing cover, he's a fantastic vocalist. But Robyn's original version makes SO much sense. The melody you hear is not what the person singing the lyrics IS LISTENING, watching their lover not giving attention to them. When I hear this song I can figure it out. I'm in the corner of a disco. People are dancing to this song. I see among all those people, the person I love the most dancing, smiling, kissing, with another person. But you can't help to dance. It becomes cathartic. I just love the feeling this version gives to me.
We danced to this masterpiece last night... It's amazing how much comfort this song keeps on giving. No matter if you're dancing on your own or if you're with a significant other. Forever grateful for this jewel, Robyn ❤️
In my opinion she isn't, but I get what you are saying. I am sure music politics have something to do with it. I loved her back in the day and still love her now.
Truly beautiful lyrics absolute poetry. We have all been there stood in the corner watching he/her with somebody else screaming inside for them to see us. I’m truly blessed and forever thankful that the one I watched in the corner, saw me, married me and gave birth to our beautiful. I will always be truly thankful for my beautiful family. ❤️
I would like to offer "Diamond Smiles" by the Boomtown Rats for your consideration. It's the most upbeat song about a girl who commits suicide, so could be sadder than this
Me too,,,i dont really know the song until calum sang this with a beautiful rendition that makes it a great song.. Just here to check the original singer of the song :)
@@morganwillibey9615 That is arguable. Years ago, very few sounds worked well with the technology; in fact, there are still very few pieces in the sphere that I can tolerate without reference grade equipment. In addition to that, this type of sound took a while for people to accept, which is a testament to the argument I'm making. So I have to say that in my opinion, your opinion is not coherent, because it does not factor in the past or current trends.
@Huawei is a criminal organization. Fair point, young is relative, so is going out of style. This kind of sound is also relative because some, like my self will classify this with newer pieces in the Electronic music scene that is starting to gain popularity.
Just heard this song for the first time about a week ago. Are you kidding me?? This song is the absolute bomb. Can't blast it enough. In the car, I'm like a teenager all over again!! Thanks Robyn, fabulous job.😊🙋♂️
This version sounds so empowering. Like even though the guy she liked didnt notice her, she eventually forgot him and did her own thing. Calum's version was really depressing.
There are 4 kinds of people: - People who come here because of Robyn - People who found out the original because of Calum - People who liked Jujubee vs Raven - People who heard Brittany's unreleased cover from Glee s4
This song got me through some tough times the summer it came out. I was hella single and hella jealous because of it and that summer we DANCED. This song is about DANCING. We need no ballad version of this song. I'm sorry. Dance music gets treated so terribly in the music business. It is NOT disposable. It's primal, real, energetic, cathartic and emotional! Keep dancing everyone. Keep dancing.
“Do you know what it takes to do me right?” Been following her ever since!!! What an amazing voice and talent and she NEVER gets the credit she deserves!!!!!!!
This is the low standard we have set in recent times. It is an enjoyable pop/dance song but lyrically it is somewhat silly, and musically it is very very basic. But I still enjoy it for what it is, a club song with some emotion. That's it. Why people think this an objectively "good" song beyond a club jam is simply ludicrous. But like 90s dance songs, it will be a classic in that regard, better than many in that genre.
@@turntablesrockmyworld9315 Oh come on, that's what everyone your age says. If you really actually knew you wouldn't be so ignorant. Also. that whole 'it's so musically basic' argument has to stop. Writing such infectious melodies with very few notes but that sound unique to that specific song is the absolute hardest thing to do as a writer. Few people can do it well. Songs that try to complicated sound so forced and only the use of weird notes makes them interesting. You sound like a rick beato fan.
It's incredible that this song that makes you want to get on the dancefloor is actually so depressing yet relatable :( I feel like we've sort of all been there
At the first time I heard calum singing this song I was like, this version is perfect, then I also heard, at the first time, this original version and now I'm convinced this is the best one. She was years ahead of her time.
i won't ever get tired of this song. the way the lyrics contrast the upbeat instrumentals/vocals makes this song much more empowering than calum scott's version. it doesn't retain the liberating aspect of this song that i love. this song, i think, is meant to be listened to, danced to, in order to release all the pain that the lyrics contain -- the anger, jealousy, and heartbreak of seeing someone you long for with someone else. though seemingly silly or "stupid," it's also so real and felt in all of us. personally, i don't really like calum scott's cover mainly because his invites you to dwell on the pain rather than the original which pushes you to be strong, move on, let ago, and not let the pain define you no matter how much it hurts.
Your interpretation is on point & powerful !! People these days likes pain & doesn't appreciate the concept of throwing the pain away and move on with lifted spirit !!
thats just a different interpretation of the song, everyone understands the lyrics differently and honestly both versions have different meanings and depths that are worth dwelling in, and honestly i dont think a comparison is necessary
People who love Callums version more have not had that feeling in the club where that person they are crushing on so hard is swept up by someone else, but you like drunk asf so you like fuck it imma drink more and dance.
I remember the day this video debuted - I was instantly obsessed. Long before the second bursts from “girls” and Callum covering it. Right there from the start to one of the best pop songs written ever.
This was my breakup song for a fairly significant romantic relationship when it first came out in 2010. Watching it covered in Bridgerton really brought all those memories flooding back. Made me emotional and I honestly had to take a break watching the episode. I know some people think Bridgerton is silly and soapy but thanks Robyn for being open to having your art used in this way. Well done for this classic and having the talent to be able to convey emotion like this. Music is timeless and universal.

This song reminds you that no matter how bad things we've been through, life must go on, so keep moving. KEEP DANCIN' 💟
That too. Or just crying your guts out at a club with bangin' beats. LOL.
Indeed
Yep.
I love how this song is such a sad but upbeat song at the same time. Like people dance to it at clubs although it’s about a woman being heart broken seeing someone she has feelings for dancing with someone else and she’s just all alone. It’s weirdly comforting and beautiful.
This song is so timeless. Just listened to it - and danced to it - again for the first time in a long while and it honestly feels like a new song.

Well it all comes down who wrote the song and composed it.
+U_GOT_A_PROBLEM Calum's version is from the tv show Smash.
Calum’s version is much, much better. her voice is pitchy and the beat is off. I don’t know who Robyn is, but my first impression of her is not impressive.
yes so true.
Robyn touches the soul in a different way. Always has.
It's crazy how sad this song is but you can't tell cause the music is so upbeat.
I think its amazing how people perceive things differently. I can get definitely get the vibe you mentioned when i listen to this version. Great song.

This version sounds so empowering. Like even though the guy she liked didnt notice her, she eventually forgot him and did her own thing. Calum's version was really depressing.

Truly one of the greatest pop songs of all time.
“Do you know what it takes to do me right?” Been following her ever since!!! What an amazing voice and talent and she NEVER gets the credit she deserves!!!!!!!
This will be remembered as one of the best pop songs of the early 21st century.
@@turntablesrockmyworld9315 still better than the absolute garbage of TODAY.
@@turntablesrockmyworld9315 let’s be real pop music isn’t very groundbreaking unless it’s an experimental artist that puts out a pop record
It is not
@@turntablesrockmyworld9315 Oh come on, that's what everyone your age says.

She wanted to recreate the dramatic tragedy of so many 70s disco tunes, how they combined pain and drama with disco dancing.

i won't ever get tired of this song. the way the lyrics contrast the upbeat instrumentals/vocals makes this song much more empowering than calum scott's version. it doesn't retain the liberating aspect of this song that i love. this song, i think, is meant to be listened to, danced to, in order to release all the pain that the lyrics contain -- the anger, jealousy, and heartbreak of seeing someone you long for with someone else. though seemingly silly or "stupid," it's also so real and felt in all of us. personally, i don't really like calum scott's cover mainly because his invites you to dwell on the pain rather than the original which pushes you to be strong, move on, let ago, and not let the pain define you no matter how much it hurts.
Your interpretation is on point & powerful !! People these days likes pain & doesn't appreciate the concept of throwing the pain away and move on with lifted spirit !!
Such a great interpretation
Nailed it.
thats just a different interpretation of the song, everyone understands the lyrics differently and honestly both versions have different meanings and depths that are worth dwelling in, and honestly i dont think a comparison is necessary
People who love Callums version more have not had that feeling in the club where that person they are crushing on so hard is swept up by someone else, but you like drunk asf so you like fuck it imma drink more and dance.
This song is such a trend mix of multiple decades. So underrated.
