As a local history, arts and culture advocate, and humanities teacher, I feel like the younger generation needs to get to know local heroes like Elias Magbanua, for he symbolizes what a Filipino youth should be-patriotic, brave, and willing to sacrifice his life for his motherland. Together with my fellow teachers in DepEd TV- Negros Occidental, we believe in the power of storytelling, thus we feel responsible in educating the younger generations of our local stories before these stories die their natural death. Our students are the reasons why we tell stories.
This is a documentary video that narrates the heroism of Elias Magbanua. At 19, Elias joined the revolution at the start of the American regime. He led his men from Santa Barbara together with local fighters from Saravia, Victorias, and Manapla. The American forces heard about the plan and intercept the local forces. Captain Elias Magbanuea was the youngest Filipino Military Officer killed in action amid the Filipino-American War just months after the Philippine revolution against Spain ended.
