Mixed Media art has roots dating back to the early 20th century. Famous artists like Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque played a key role in the rise of this art form, especially with the introduction of collage into fine art. In fact, Picasso’s groundbreaking use of newspaper clippings and everyday objects in his Cubist works helped set the stage for how artists think about art materials today. ...

Chiztine B. Sayo 1. Evolution of Ilonggo-Bisaya Komposo: During the Spanish period, komposo focused on religious themes and historical events. Over time, the themes broadened to include love, social justice, and nationalism, reflecting societal changes. Today, komposo tackles modern issues like migration and environmental concerns. 2. Role of the Manugkomposo: The manugkomposo served as both a historian and cultural mediator, preserving historical events and values through songs. During conflicts or social transformations, they helped the community process change by framing it within cultural narratives. 3. Asking for "Dispensasyon": This act reflects humility, respect for the audience, and an acknowledgment of shared responsibility in storytelling. It reinforces communal values and the relational dynamics within the Ilonggo-Bisaya community.

John Daniel S. Palmares Humss 12-A 1. Reconciling tradition and innovation is a constant challenge in my creative journey. For instance, while working on a project that involved traditional weaving techniques, I felt torn between preserving the authenticity of the craft and incorporating modern elements. This tension pushed me to experiment, ultimately leading to a fusion that honored the tradition while appealing to contemporary audiences. 2. The legacy of National Living Treasure, Salinlahi's weavers, has profoundly influenced my values, emphasizing the importance of craftsmanship and cultural pride. Their dedication inspires me to promote traditional practices in my community, whether through workshops or collaborative projects that connect younger generations with our heritage. 3. My relationship with Filipino culture is dynamic, shaped by both my experiences and the work of National Artists. Their narratives challenge me to explore deeper aspects of our identity and express them in my art. Inspired by their commitment, I aim to redefine being a Filipino artist by integrating modern themes while celebrating our rich cultural history, creating a dialogue that resonates in today’s world.

    1. As a student who enjoys making short films, I use our tradition, the life of Filipinos as my inspiration in making short films while embracing innovation in my own creative pursuits. For example, back when I was grade 11 we're task to make a video that was influenced by various Philippine colonial times. My group decided to emphasize the injustices and oppression that the Filipino people endured under the Japanese rule. Through the use of traditional narratives and modern storytelling techniques, this project allowed us to explore the ways in which the occupation shaped our society and produced an interesting and thought-provoking film. 2. Nora Calvatera Villamayor, a revered National Artist for Film, has profoundly shaped my understanding of Filipino culture and identity through her powerful depiction of everyday realities and aspirations. Her films highlight the resilience of Filipinos, inspiring me as a young filmmaker to reflect on our history and its impact on contemporary culture. I aim to explore the complexities of Filipino life during the colonial period in my short films, honoring our heritage while radiating conversations about our evolving identity. 3.Receiving the Order of National Artists symbolizes not just recognition, but a deep connection to the evolving narrative of Filipino identity. My relationship with Filipino culture is a journey of discovery and appreciation. Also through their artworks it made me realize that I could also use my talent as a medium in preserving our rich traditions and to use arts to pass down this legacies to the next generation. As a Filipino artist we can be a great storytellers depicting the life of Filipinos, showcasing our traditions and culture.

      1. I think, I could somehow balance honoring our traditions and embracing innovation in my own creative pursuit in making something with the use of that two. Let's take for example that I will be making a house as a civil engineer while also putting some designs that connect to our traditions. In this way, I am honoring our traditions while doing something where I am good at.

      2. Let's take for example Wang-Od. Her works impacted me in a way that it changed how I view things. Seeing her works made me realize that simple things could make a huge contribution or impact. It changed how I see people with tattoos and it made me love myself for being a tattoo artist. I used to be a tattoo artist as well, and I didn't know at first that through tattooing, you can pass down your legacy. Her works inspired me to try engrave our culture through symbols. She inspired me to always create things that correlates to our culture so that our culture lives on.

      3. I see my relationship with Filipino culture evolves when I expose myself on the works of our national artists. Everytime I see works that are made by our fellow Filipino, it fills up my passion to be an artist as well. Because their works reminds me that everyone can be an artist on their own ways. Their works pushed me to become more than I could. Their works made me realize that being a Filipino artist doesn't just contribute to preserving our culture but to also change the lives of those people who sees your art.

      1. In my photography, I find ways to blend tradition and innovation by capturing images that highlight the natural beauty of the place or the subject while using modern techniques to enhance the viewer’s experience. For example, when I photograph landscapes, I aim to show the connection between nature and Filipino culture, such as the significance of mountain landscape or ancestral lands or even in ancestral museum. Through modern editing tools and composition techniques, I balance the respect for cultural heritage with the desire to innovate and present these landscapes in a fresh, contemporary way. 2. The works of National Artist Benedicto “BenCab” Cabrera, particularly his representations of Filipino life and culture, have deeply influenced my perspective on capturing images. His ability to portray both the struggles and beauty of Filipino society has taught me that photography, like painting, can reflect the deeper realities of our culture. This realization has inspired me to focus on not just the aesthetics of landscapes, but the stories and heritage behind them. I now seek to photograph places that carry historical and cultural significance, contributing to the preservation of our nation’s identity through visual storytelling. 3. As I continue to explore Filipino culture through my photography, I see my relationship with it evolving into something more personal and reflective. The work of artists like BenCab and José Joya challenges me to think about how my art can contribute to shaping a modern Filipino identity. These artists show that being Filipino is not limited to tradition but also involves adapting to change and expressing ourselves in new, contemporary ways. Their work inspires me to use my photography to celebrate the complexity of Filipino culture, its traditions, but also its growth and adaptation in today’s world. This perspective pushes me to redefine my role as both an artist and a individual, embracing a balance between preserving the past and capturing the present.

GALINDO, LEONAH JANE B. 1. Given the profound influence of Filipino artists recognized as National Artists or National Living Treasures, how do you personally reconcile the tension between honoring tradition and embracing innovation in your own creative pursuits? Can you share a specific instance where this conflict has shaped your artistic or personal journey? Answer: A lot of Filipino artists are great at taking old ways of making art and mixing them with new ideas. This lets them show off their own style while still staying true to the things that are important in Filipino culture. For example, as i travel in different places with my family, i explore different landscapes. I paint or draw it using traditional techniques to make the painting look very real, but also adds a bit of modern techniques, which makes them feel more modern and lively. This mix of old and new makes the art feel like it's part of Filipino culture, but also like it's something new and exciting. 2. The preservation of cultural heritage through the National Living Treasures Award emphasizes passing traditional skills to future generations. Reflect on how the legacy of a specific Filipino artist or artisan has impacted your own values or preservation or adaptation in your own context? Answer: Jose Joya known for his abstract paintings, he uses vibrant colors, dynamic patterns, and incorporation of traditional Filipino motifs that can inspire my own paintings. Embrace bold color combinations and geometric forms to create a sense of energy and movement. Most importantly, I let my creativity flow and use abstract forms to express my own personal emotions and experiences. Finding my own unique voice within the framework of his influence. 3. Receiving the Order of National Artists is a symbol of national recognition, but it also places these artists within the broader narrative of Filipino identity. How do you see your own relationship with Filipino culture evolving, and how might the work of these artists challenge or inspire you to redefine what it means to be a Filipino artist or citizen in the contemporary world? Answer: It's amazing how Filipino artists help us understand what it means to be Filipino. The National Artists have made a big collection of stories about Filipino culture, showing how it's both complex and always changing. Their art shows us the different ways people see being Filipino, and how that changes as the world changes too. It's inspiring to see how they use their art not just to show their own ideas, but also to talk about the problems and possibilities of the world today.

      1. Balancing tradition and innovation in art can be challenging. I often find inspiration in traditional methods but like to add my own twist. For example, I once tried to combine a traditional Filipino weaving technique with modern patterns. This experience taught me that honoring the past can help me create something new and meaningful. 2. The legacy of National Artist Carlos “Botong” Francisco has significantly shaped my view of art and culture. His ability to capture Filipino life in his paintings inspires me to explore my own experiences. I admire how he tells stories through his work, making culture accessible to many. This motivates me to create art that reflects my identity and connects with others. 3. My relationship with Filipino culture has grown as I learn more about its rich history. The work of National Artists often reflects deep cultural themes that resonate with me. They challenge me to think about my identity and how I can express it through my art. I feel inspired to explore what being a Filipino artist means today, blending tradition with my own experiences.

1.) One way to do that is to treat tradition as not a limitation but a starting point or a tool. For example, in National Artists like Fernando Amorsolo, traditional techniques deeply capture the beauty of Philippine rural life. But then you see artists like Benedicto Cabrera, who build on traditions but bring them into a more contemporary and abstract direction. If I may specify a specific experience it might be like how a person would feel when reading about Filipino traditions-in this case, the art of weaving from National Living It is not a gesture away from tradition but something building on the past while pushing toward future horizons. 2.) One notable figure that comes into my mind is Lang Dulay, a master T'boli weaver for her highly intricate T'nalak creations. Her unwavering commitment to preserving her people's tradition of weaving amidst changing tides of modernity really touched my heart.Lang Dulay's work was so well chiseled into culture and history that all the single T'nalak designs, handmade, carry symbols and stories passed on from generations. I can contribute to things by helping support and promote traditional crafts, storytelling, and cultural expressions. Whether it is through advocacy for the use of indigenous products, learning more about what an activity or tradition has been derived from based on the history of Filipino traditions, or just conversation, I have learned that every person plays a role in keeping these legacies alive. 3.) As for my reference, as José Maceda's work with indigenous Filipino music in his modern compositions was also challenged my understanding of what such an identity might reflect. Their work reminds me that engaging with Filipino culture is not just looking at history with a nostalgic look but questioning, adapting, and pushing forward. Personally, this provokes me to think about how I too can contribute to this changing narrative. Filipino identity is fluid-it is changing because of diaspora, globalization, and the vast expanses of our colonial history that overwhelmed rhythmic pace of technological changes.

      1. Balancing tradition and innovation in Filipino art is a complicated process for artists. On one side, they have to respect and preserve the traditional practices that have been passed down for generations. This is important because it keeps Filipino culture alive and allows future generations to connect with their ancestors. On the other hand, artists must also bring new ideas to the table and find ways to innovate and push the boundaries of what is possible in their craft. 2. The National Living Treasures Award focuses on passing traditional skills to the next generation. Whang-Od, the Kalinga tattoo artist, has shaped my values by preserving the art of "batok". Her dedication inspires me to include Filipino culture in my art, even without using tattoos. I share these values with young people and use modern ways to keep our heritage alive. 3. The Order of National Artists connects these artists to the essence of Filipino identity, and their work encourages me to reflect on my growing connection to Filipino culture. As an artist focused on youth empowerment and mental health, I’m inspired to respect tradition while tackling contemporary challenges. Their commitment motivates me to explore fresh ways to represent Filipino identity, using my art to both honor our heritage and drive positive social change.

KEX GABRIEL PARAN 1. In reconciling tradition and innovation, I've written songs that are highly influenced by komposos, folksongs, and even the new generation opms, I think I could embrace both innovation and honoring tradition by adding traditional styles of writing in a piece of written music, while also mixing the new innovations style of writing, in this way, in my written songs I could share and keep the traditions of both the old traditions and the current innovations. 2. The legacy of Francisco A. Feliciano, a National Artist for Music, has influenced my way of writing. His commitment to infusing traditional Filipino themes into his compositions, inspires me to create and blend cultural themes and writing style, as well as motivating me to engage in a habit of writing about anything I find beautiful in a culturally connected way. 3. My relationship with Filipino culture has evolved throughout the work of artists like Bienvenido Lumbera, as I've recently learned about what Lumbera has achieved in life. I've challenged myself to rethink not just mine but also the identity of others in a broad and globalized context. Lumbera's ability to make narratives that reflect both tradition and modernity in his works inspires me to be like him, to attain his way of poetry and capturing the dramatization of his works. Just like Lumbera I think I would like to embrace a more inclusive and dynamic expression of my cultural identity. As to be an artist in the contemporary world means using your works, your voice and even your story to create change and influence the future and the upcoming aspiring contemporary artists and aspiring national artists.

Precious Lirazan 1. The influence given by the Filipino National Artists serves as a key to the door that would lead us to acknowledge the honoring of traditions in a manner that we could further improve our creative pursuits together with the world becoming more innovated. As the world continues to change, we can also adapt those changes and portray our culture in a way that's way more appealing. This conflict shaped my personal artistic journey through helping me to be able to express the emotions that once held captive and transformed in an artistic way. 2. Amongst all Filipino artists, Fernando Amorsolo captivated me the most. It's not just because of how his artworks look, but also the ethereal feeling of his artworks. Somehow, the fascination I had with him pushes me to learn more about our culture, to look back on the times as we attain and built our traditions. I am inspired to practice and know the ways of art as I transfer the delight about us being Filipinos in a field where art is embraced. 3. Looking back, the Filipino culture was given way more significance, especially in the aspect of art. As the world continuously change and proceeds into evolution, the way we treasure our history was overlooked. With the help of the National Artists and their efforts to make the history still alive to continuously influence others, they set ablaze and standards about what it takes to be a Filipino, especially in this era. They are portraying how a Filipino should incorporate and embrace their roots, how a Filipino should enliven his/her history because it is where our identities came from, and how a Filipino should continue to pass down stories so that it will still stand and reach the future generations.

RAIZA ANGEL ROSE C. NARDO HUMSS 12-A 1. For me, balancing tradition and innovation in art feels like a natural part of the creative process. Tradition offers me a foundation, while innovation allows me to express myself in new ways. There was a time when I was working on a painting that drew from traditional Filipino patterns, but I added a modern twist with abstract elements. It felt like I was both respecting the past and making it my own, and this experience helped me realize that the two don’t have to clash-they can complement each other. 2. One artist who deeply impacted me is Lang Dulay, a T'boli weaver who preserved traditional T'nalak weaving. Her dedication to her craft and to passing it on to younger generations taught me the importance of preserving our cultural roots. It made me think about my own creative work and how I could use it to reflect my heritage, while also adapting it to modern times. This influence inspires me to keep our culture alive in my art, while also evolving it so it stays relevant. 3. Being recognized as a National Artist is more than just an award; it represents a deep connection to the Filipino identity. Personally, I see my relationship with Filipino culture as evolving through exploration and self-expression. The work of these artists encourages me to question what it means to be Filipino today, not just through traditional practices but through how we adapt to change. Their legacy motivates me to keep pushing the boundaries of my creativity while staying true to the core values that define us as a people.

CPAR 1. As a student, It's a constant balancing act. I find inspiration in the rich tapestry of Filipino art, but I also feel a pull to explore new ideas and push boundaries. One instance where this tension played out was when I was working on a musical composition. I wanted to incorporate traditional Filipino instruments, but I also wanted to create a modern, experimental sound. This led me to experiment with unconventional techniques and arrangements, ultimately resulting in a piece that felt both familiar and fresh. It was a challenge, but it ultimately enriched my artistic process." 2. "The work of [ Apo Wang Od] has deeply impacted my sense of identity. Their dedication to preserving traditional crafts and their unwavering commitment to their craft have instilled in me a profound respect for our cultural heritage. I've been inspired to explore ways to contribute to cultural preservation in my own field. For example, I've been working on a project that combines traditional Filipino storytelling techniques with contemporary multimedia art, hoping to bridge the gap between generations and make our cultural heritage relevant to a wider audience." 3. "The work of National Artists has broadened my understanding of what it means to be a Filipino artist. Their diverse perspectives and creative expressions challenge me to redefine my own relationship with Filipino culture. I see myself as a product of both tradition and modernity, constantly evolving and adapting to the changing world. I believe that by embracing both our heritage and our contemporary experiences, we can create art that is both authentically Filipino and relevant to the global community."

Paulo O. Austria Section: HumSS A 1. Balancing tradition and new ideas is tough. For me, it's about respecting where we come from while still trying new things. I once had a project where I had to choose between keeping it traditional or adding my own style. In the end, I mixed both, and it showed me that traditions can change without losing their value. This experience taught me that change can still respect the past. 2. One artist who inspires me is Lang Dulay, a T'boli weaver recognized as a National Living Treasure. She worked hard to keep the T’nalak weaving tradition alive, and that made me realize how important it is to protect our culture. It got me thinking about how I can help keep my heritage alive, even in small ways. Now, I try to support local artists and learn more about my roots, hoping to pass on these lessons to others and encourage them to do the same. 3. Filipino National Artists help shape our identity as Filipinos, but they also push us to rethink what being Filipino means today. For me, being Filipino is about respecting our past while growing with the present. The work of these artists reminds me that identity isn’t set in stone; it changes with us. They inspire me to think about how I can help shape that story, whether through creative work or how I live as a Filipino today.

Justin Edrick O. Vargas HUMSS 12-A 1.As a student, I might feel pulled between learning traditional art techniques and wanting to explore new, innovative styles. For example, while learning the basics like shading or drawing realistic figures is important for improving my skills, I might also want to experiment with modern, abstract, or digital art. I respect the traditional techniques but still allow myself to explore and grow creatively. It's about finding balance between the old and the new. 2.The legacy of Filipino weaver Lang Dulay, a National Living Treasure. This has inspired me to think about how I can contribute to cultural preservation in my own way, such as incorporating Filipino symbols or stories into my art. By doing this, I feel like I'm helping keep our cultural identity alive, even in a modern context. It's a way of showing respect for the past while adapting it to the present. 3.Getting the Order of National Artists shows how connected these artists are to Filipino culture. Seeing their work makes me think about my own culture and how I express it. They inspire me to blend traditional Filipino styles with modern ideas in my art. This way, I can respect our heritage while creating something new and relevant for today.

Firstly, the works of National Artists have greatly influenced Philippine arts and culture by showcasing the unique heritage and traditions of the Filipino people. Through various forms of artistic expression such as visual arts, literature, music, dance, and theater, National Artists have highlighted the rich cultural diversity and history of the Philippines, preserving and promoting indigenous art forms and traditions. 2.Help gradually establish an artist’s work through social media. Sharing their work on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media sites all provide exposure to their work, which is valuable for the artist’s image. 3.Because it’s important to recognize the art from any country, especially one with such a complicated history of colonization and imperialism at the hands of both Spain (from 1521 to 1898) and the US (from 1898 to 1946) and how that impacted the Indigenous Filipino culture. It differs from other countries’ art in the way that any country’s art differs from any other country’s art: no two countries have the same political history and though there may be similar art styles, the differences are complex and nuanced and can only he invented under the specific political conditions that could only be created in those specific countries for very specific and unique reasons.

She influenced me to do my part-to be part of that movement, and to think about ways to preserve our own. It made me think that what if she didn't faithfully preserve their own art? the stories that had been passed down from generations to generations that contain their identity would be gone. This blend allowed me to pay homage to the craft while also expressing my personal aesthetic. 2.) Name: Selene Fay Delada Section: HUMSS 12 - D 1. It is always very interesting to look at the struggle that artists often go through between continuity and revolution. Think about, for instance, how Filipino National Artists such as Carlos ‘Botong’ Francisco are able to skillfully synthesize traditional motifs that are Filipino to his own contemporary artworks. For example, Francisco’s murals may portray several images associated with the history and culture of people but with a modern touch. Exploring how these artists navigate honoring tradition with progress in their careers can provide important lessons for your own work. 2. The story of other Filipino artisans, including Lang Dulay, a T’Boli from Mindanao appointed as a National Living Treasure, constitutes a meaningful paradigm of indigenous cultural sustainability. The extricate weaving motifs that Dulay produced are not only art but their history and their identity. It is therefore very fulfilling to examine how devotion in trying to maintain your heritage has shaped your own values. It may make you want to find out how such practices are being practiced in today’s society and how they can be continued to be practiced in today’s society. 3. Getting to know more about our national artists such as Nick Joaquin profound one’s appreciation of the Filipino culture through his literary creations. Due to themes Joaquin dealt with including colonial history, social issues, and Filipino culture you might be probed to redefine your position on what it means to be Filipino today. This reflection can help you or encourage you to find your own place of how to embrace your culture in new forms but at the same time, paying homage to the ones that came before today.

In my own creative pursuits, I strive to respect the Philippines' rich cultural heritage while pushing the boundaries of contemporary expression. One example of how this conflict influenced my journey was when I read a novel about our past and the author added a modern and contemporary touch to it. This experience taught me the importance of preserving tradition and culture while also finding innovative ways to keep them relevant in today's world. 2. Apo Whang-Od, a National Living Treasure and the last mambabatok (traditional Kalinga tattoo artist), has deeply influenced me. -JATE VINCENT Z. MENDOZA HUMSS 12-A Tattoos have been a part of Philippine culture for centuries. In ancient times, ancestors used tattoos as symbols to represent their tribes, highlighting their identity as a group. However, in the modern era, tattoos have become a common way for individuals to express their appreciation for art. Tattoos today are not just random lines or symmetrical designs; each tattoo carries its own unique meaning, memories, and messages for the person who wears it. Many people get tattoos to remember shared experiences with loved ones, while others use them as a form of self-expression. Having tattoos does not define who you are, and often, people's perceptions of those with tattoos are completely different from their true selves.

Being a 21st century artist, I can promote youth empowerments using the five elements of contemporary arts. First of all appropriation, I will find forgotten artworks of artists from Philippines and create a new art derive from it and a respective one at that, one that will attract youths of today. Make that artwork a symbol that youths of today are free to speak of their mind and be one to stand up for themselves. By interpreting various human activity regarding with social issues youths of today will realise what problems embody their society in which they will be woken up by the realness of the problem. Now imagine when you walk and you saw a space full of figures or a sculpture that portray a message true to what you've seen in society as a youth you'd realize that you need to adress the problem take the decision for yourself. Same goes with hybridity turning an extraordinary art to wake those sleeping minds of youths combining it with technology, using those software to spread the message of this various arts for the youths to exercise their right or to wake their minds and encourage them to take charge of their lives.

As a 21st-century artist, I could promote youth empowerment by showing my skills in making art while observing the elements of contemporary art. We now live in a generation where contemporary art portrays our lives. So, using contemporary art elements, I could properly and clearly portray social issues as a young person. And because I am a youth, people who could see my art would be fascinated if they knew that a youth made it. This could empower the youths since, through these arts, I can show that we aren’t just youth; rather, we are youth with capabilities to make art. I could also show that we are youth with creativity, passion to shape our future, and ambition to show ourselves. For example, taking famous paintings and reimagining them to match today’s trend will empower us, the youth, as we show our creativity and skills. If I make sculptures from things that I could find everywhere, I can showcase our ability to be resourceful. Through technologies like vlogs, video art, and interactive art, I could reach people globally and show them that even though I am just a youth, I can be an artist. And through contemporary art, I could empower not just myself but my fellow youth as well.

Contemporary art is all around us, making our lives so colorful and exciting that we don't notice it. It is already opening our eyes and increasing our knowledge of what we can do to empower ourselves and the people around us. We are all artists, and we are all able to produce an amazingly masterful piece. Let us all discover those skills that we haven't yet discovered. Let's explore through making art and take it to a higher level, but I suggest we don't just make art. Let's make art to express ourselves and to impress and motivate others to do the same.

Kea Maree L. Abellar 12 STEM B "As a 21st century artist, how can you promote youth empowerment using the elements of contemporary art?" If I were to use contemporary art as a 21st century artist to empower the youth, I would create a mural wall that shows the challenges our youths are facing right now, that could encourage others to reflect on their own struggles and experiences. Another idea was to hold a live art event that could lead other youths to join and express theirselves through art, by creating art together in public. The last idea was the use of social media, by creating a virtual art gallery where different artists from the youth could share and showcase their talents on any form of art. By promoting and showing our youths what I and are other youths are capable of, there's a high possibility that we can empower young artists and inspire others to follow their passions.

How we can apply in our daily routine in the house, school and especially in society. We can share ideas about every element and the purpose of this to be a better person. I can use social media to spread the positive vibes regarding those elements by creating my own concept or content. Encourage youth to show their talent because like here in our Barangay we discover that most of the youth are very lovely to dance and sing including me the others are playing sports and competing pageant.
