After watching this video, I've gained a deeper appreciation for the significance of tattoos in various cultures, particularly in the Visayan tradition of the Philippines. It's fascinating to learn that tattoos were not merely decorative but symbols of valor, social status, and a rite of passage. The rich Visayan tattoo art, with its motifs reflecting nature, lineage, and bravery, serves as a powerful testament to the importance of preserving indigenous cultures and traditions. It's a beautiful form of art that not only adorns the body but also tells a visual story, allowing individuals to proudly embrace their cultural identity and heritage.

After watching the video about Visayan Tattoo Art, I learned that early Visayans earned tattoos through acts of bravery and other significant experiences. The number of tattoos a person had reflected their perceived bravery. Furthermore, I learned that tattoos have different meanings; for example, in Egyptian culture, they are considered protective markings, especially for pregnant women. The video emphasizes the significance of tattoos and raises awareness that having a tattoo doesn't necessarily mean a person is rebellious. Instead, tattoos are a form of art with deeper meanings.

After watching this video, this made my claims more evident. That tattoos has not been a basis to consider a person if they are bad or no. Tattoos are precisely an arts and an expression, not an indication of being a bad person. Perhaps, it has been a norms in our society but after all, we should not base the personality of a person through physical appearance. Because there are people who have covered with tattoos out there who have the softiest heart than those who have none. Let us reconsider things.

At first I really don't know what are the meanings behind every tattoos I have seen in our ancestors. I thought they were just do it because they want to or to have markings to know where or what tribes they belong but now I learned that it was deeper than that. I am amazed that it was not easy to have such a tattoo without any reasons behind it or achievement behind it unlike in todays world where tattoo is overrated and slowly losing the meaning of what tattoo really is. It's just awesome that back in the years people or tribes still appreciate the beauty of arts even though they only have limited access to art materials, as well as the appreciation to those who show bravery in some critical or hard circumstances.

Having this kind of learning makes me feel that our generation is really different from the past. Those markings that resembles their bravery, sailing and hunting so they can gain a tattoo is a sign of respect and braveness of people who are in a tribe. This is my first knowledge to know that every pattern they use have a meaning and purpose. For example if you win a war or you gain pride into your tribe makes you get a tattoo while in our generation we can put tattoo whatever and whenever we want with no sacrifices and hardship. Tattoos have been a part of Philippine culture for centuries. In ancient times, ancestors used tattoos as symbols to represent their tribes, highlighting their identity as a group. However, in the modern era, tattoos have become a common way for individuals to express their appreciation for art. Tattoos today are not just random lines or symmetrical designs; each tattoo carries its own unique meaning, memories, and messages for the person who wears it. Many people get tattoos to remember shared experiences with loved ones, while others use them as a form of self-expression. Having tattoos does not define who you are, and often, people's perceptions of those with tattoos are completely different from their true selves.

Having tattoos are already exist in pre-colonial era. It's a kind of art and also part of our history. Every people had a reason why they have a tattoo because it symbolize bravery, art or even confidence. Just like Bella Poarch who decided to have tattoo to cover her scars caused by her traumatic experience when she was young. Some people mistaken that if a person are having tattoo they're a bad person. However, tattoo have different meanings on a person's body. Aside from art, it can also gain people's confidence.

Tattoos is part of philippine culture and during old days ancestors once used tattoos as a symbol of their tribes which emphasize their identity as a gruop however in today's era tattoos is a normal way of expressing someone's facination about art and it not just a random lines . And symmetrical, symbols yet every tattoo conveys numerous message memories and means to those who have this many of use tattoos to remind. The memories they have shared with someone they love, some use tattoo because it's their way to express theirselves and having this doesn't define you as being and sometimes our perception to those who have tattoos is a direct opposite to their real selves

This video has made me realize that tattoos can be used as amulets, declarations of love, religious symbols, adornments, and forms of punishment.
As amulets they served as both religious and protective symbols for the wearer and in some cases acted as a tribute to the gods.
As Declaration of love serves as symbolism and a sense of belonging.
As for religious symbols some people choose this kind of tattoos represent their own beliefs while otherschoose symbols they like without paying attention to their meanings.
As adornments shows their bodies to indicate their job, their marital status, etc.
Lastly as for punishment usually for criminals that words describing the nature of their crimes. inmates feel more positive about their bodies, are more assertive, uninhibited, and extroverted than nontattooed.
It doesn't mean that if you have a tattoo, you're a bad person; people get tattoos for a variety of reasons, such as to commemorate happiness or sad memories. One of the most reasons for getting a tattoo is to improve one's self-esteem. People who feel good about themselves are more likely to want to express themselves through their appearance. To others tattoos is a form of art that can sometimes be used to change a person's look to match their style.

Sometimes there are people that when they see a person with a tattoo, they will treat them differently for the reason that they think they are addict, unprofessional and intimidating. Furthermore they will discrimate them. So, my reflections/realization as I've watch the video is you can't judge a person that has a tattoo without knowing the behind why they got that tattoo. As all tattoos have a story, maybe that person experience from a heartbreak, depression as well as sometimes for the honor of their love ones who is already dead and important to them. People are just judgemental without knowing that tattoos represent our thoughts, feelings, traditions together with our history.

Visayan tattoos were characterized by bold lines and geometric and floral designs on the chest and buttocks. Tattoo designs varied by region. They can be repeating geometric designs, stylized representations of animals, and floral or sun-like patterns.

My realization after watching this video is that we cannot judge people who had a tattoo,we cannot say that he/she is rebellious or bad person, but rather we should appreciate it because tattoo is a Filipino traditions and it has been a part of Philippine culture,it plays a significant role in the lives of Filipinos even before Pre-colonial times. Therefore we should value the art of tattoo because tattooing is more than just an art it reflects our rich culture and our history as Filipinos.

As I've watched the video, I've come to the realization that tattoos are not only for trends and don't mean a person is bad. Some of us always think that having a tattoo lessens our dignity as a person. However, it's not. Tattoos have been part of our tradition for centuries, which showcases how skilled our ancestors were. It's overwhelming knowing that tattoos in the past up to the present are being used to symbolize or represent the tradition, beauty, bravery, and ability of every person. Furthermore, we must learn to analyze tattoos more, because sometimes there are a lot of reasons and stories behind them.

Today, tattoos are generally seen as a form of personal expression, and their popularity is on the rise. While there are still some who view tattoos with suspicion or disdain, they are becoming more and more mainstream, and their acceptance is growing.

Lovelie joy M.Magno Humss 12-B My realization in this video is that, not all people with tattoo are bad person, this is just the perspective of other peoples in our time now.According to this video that tattooing is very old filipino tradition, tattoo has long played the significant role in the life of filipinos even before pre colonial times. For early visayan tattoos are earned through acts of bravery may it be in battles, hunting or sailing & other significant experiences. The more tattoo a person has , the braver he is perceived to be ,some examples are, Egyptians considered tattoos as protective marking from diseases especially for women when they are pregnant, there are various tattoos such as yantra tattoos, animistic roots (patik), and etc. Tattoo design and pattern are mostly inspired by nature example labid, bangut, ablay, dub-dub, daya-daya and etc. But not all those with tattoo are men, there are also women. So n our time now they think that people with tattoo are bad but we don't know that before standing upright in the world the tattoo has become a part of our culture and tradition but in our time now people's perspective is different, those people who doesn't,t know its real origin or its story.

I usually view tattoos as arts that makes us look aesthetic, cool and brave.I am aware that it's not just an art but, I just got enlightened with it's purpose.Tattoos can be earned through acts of bravery. It can also be considred as protective markings, charms, and marking for slaves.Visayan tattoos are mostly inspired by nature and it symbolize status, beauty, family, and pride. The purpose of tattoos differ according to our culture and traditions.Tattoos is a big part of our history.Tattoos are not just arts.It reflects one's act of bravery, story, history, culture and traditions.Tattoos are not just arts, it's a masterpiece.
