- The Citroen C5 X. Is it a saloon? Or is it an estate car? Could it even be a crossover? Well, it's all three.
Citroen has decided to try something new in the family saloon car class and created a car that has super comfortable ride, a spacious interior and stylish looks.
But is it a confused mess or something quite clever? I find out in this review.
If I look a bit familiar then you might have seen me on Carbuyer and Auto Express RUclips channels.

I like when my French cars are reviewed by our British friends because it always feels more honest in a way. I am more of a Peugeot fan, but this C5X is really making a good impression on me, and it's growing! Thanks for the excellent and unbiased review!
Big french cars are some of the best cars.
A petrol C6 is still high up on the "I want" list.
This car is made 100% China Shenzhen. It had never seen France.
C6 is the last 'France éternelle' car.
@@RobbytSon does it make UK made japanese cars not japanese ?
@@thierrymitchell5977 That's a good question. There are so many hypocritical positions out there.
It's a beautiful car that ticks many desired boxes IMO. I saw one on the road only yesterday, and it really stood out from all the other cars around it. Stunning, eye catching, deserves to be a success.
Why am I not surprised that you are the one bringing this one up first amongst all other car-youtube channels I follow :) As always, great job!
Not sure what's wrong with me, I love this car and if I could afford a EV I would buy a C4.
When younger, you wish the exctitment of stiff cars being very sporty but comes a moment when you wish for the great ride where you do not feel the road and can be driving to the other end of Europe. I always was amazed how Citroen beat even the most expensive Bentleys or S Class. I will get my hand on one soon.
So what is it so "new" compared to estate saloon as a6 allroad? Nothing new. Just a sportier looks, but at the same time c5x is less practical. Price is the only point to be interested. We here in eastern europe buy a lot of second hand french cars only because they are 2times cheaper compared to the same production year german cars. I own a c4 grand picasso only because i cannot afford the same year galaxy or sharan.
Quality of videos stepped up. Brilliant
Great to see you back on RUclips. Carbuyer is simply unwatchable to me since you left. I'm sure your channel will get the following it deserves. Unfortunately, it's likely to take time. If more people like me get to know about it, I'm sure it'll take off relatively quickly. Nonetheless, stick with it; don't give up. It will happen. Rest assured in how many channels now have hundreds of thousands of subscribers, but most started off very slowly indeed, before the momentum kicked in. Hopefully, you've got the name recognition for it to happen much more quickly. However, I didn't come across your channel because YT pushed it, but simply because I searched for a review of this particular car. Best of British to you!
Great review! Wonderful car I’ve always loved big Citroens going back to the DS and CX range.
What a great review ! You’re right about the purpose of this car. Citroën is back.
Like the vid, it has a smooth vibe just like the Citroen. Subbed! 😊 Citroens have gotten so good the last years and soo comfy. Bought the Aircross and like it really much.
Great review as always
Awesome review! Keep up the good work! From Singapore!
Great review. Really enjoyed it. Love the car and the fact it’s not trying to be sporty.
Excellent review, my C5X arrives this week hopefully.
Great review. I would argue one point though there were plenty of Citroen Xantias on UK roads in the 90s.
Love your reviews! You remind me of Top Gear of old and they're so clear and informative! Great work and great car! 👍👍
A bit like good old Quentin Willson.
Love your reviews👍
Great rewiew of Batch.
I enjoyed watching the Video Review. One of my favourite Citroen Models 😊
A great review ,thanks
Great review. This is one classy Citroen. They have come on in 'leaps and bounds' recently. Good to see something slightly different.
Great review Batch. Channelling your inner Quentin Wilson.

😁
Brilliant! Greetings from Germany
Like a person who is for instance very good at describing food in such a way it makes your mouth water, you make me very much want to drive this car. 👍
Loooooveeee this car 😍😍😍; superb review!
great car, great video !
There's a version on sale in France named C5X Pallas. It's a premium version finished in black with tan ( tabac ) leather interior. There are certain elements finished in matt gold such as the side mirror casings and the cubby hole cover in the interior. Distinctive.
Thanks! 👍😃
Elegant Citroen. What a great looking and interesting car.
I love this car and it reminds me of my old Citroën DS5, which was similar in that it didn't really fit any car type (a high riding big hatchback thing). Great review and looks like a worthy replacement when my DS 7 Crossback deal comes to an end. Great review 👍
As a former C6 owner - I love this car but I’ll reserve judgment on the ride quality until someone does a review on UK roads. This review takes place on some wonderfully smooth Spanish tarmac which makes me a little skeptical…
Having my C5X in pearl white delivered next week - my first ever new car in 20 years driving and jumping from a 2009 Mondeo diesel 😆
Love it. Top speed? Great review.
Citroen and Peugeot are really doing great stuff these days....
I bought a C5 Mk 2. I had it for 9years. I just wished I knew that they were going to stop making them for the UK market, I would have bought another one before they did stop. They were a brilliant car, plenty of room, so quiet and smooth and and comfortable drive. I turned to the Skoda Super, which is quite a comfortable car. I did say at the time that if Citroen did make another big car I would go for it. So, yes, I'm going to go for this car with out a doubt.
I got C5 X7 2011, was wondering how does it compare to Skoda Superb. Unfortunately I haven't got the chance to test the Superb.
My priorities are: ride quality, silent cabin and comfortable seats. And so far the C5 had delivered very well.
Like it. Especially like the priority on ride quality. Why manufacturers insist on Nurburgring times and handling is beyond me for day to day cars like 3 series/A4 etc that are driven nowhere near their capabilities. This looks great too. Good job Citroen. 👍🏻
Thanks
Very very interested in this car.
Inherited a BMW 3 series. Perfect bulid quality, but.....with the M suspension.
Not that is shakes you to death but it's just not comfy. And I am allowed to go for a new car.
I'm doing 90.000km per year. Mainly highway and some b-roads in Germany.
I want SILENCE and COMFORT. Not interested at all in sporty driving (I'll take my old Z4 for that!).
THX for the review . I'll go for a test drive in this car for sure.
Looks good to me. Would be great to have a 4x4 option and bigger engine if wanted.
lovely looking estate for the over 50s , 37k plus for soft air ride with hybrid engine
I've always never considered a French car in the past. But I do like the current crop coming out. Such fantastic designs. This one is even comfortable, so even the missus may like the ride. But I'd struggle to sell her on the shape. Chalk and Cheese are our tastes there :).
Fantastic car
We do like big Citroens in the UK, but only when they are classics and there are none left to buy.
Whats the range on 1 charge plus 1 full tank?
Really like this car. Do you think they will make an all electric version?
Running an 530d BMW actually i have baught this car. I want to ride smooth, efficient, with a lot off space and the latest helpers and software. And usally i will drive in electric mode for short daily distances. And it looks good.
although filming quality of a video could've been a bit better it is still very good material overall. Cheers
Which colour is this unit, amazonte grey ?
Did not realise these are built in China . I will wait for a year then test drive one . By then first year depreciation will have bitten and it will be a decent buy . Good review . Thank you
If I remember correctly both the Xantia and BX sold very well in the UK... Rare for Citroens.
In Australia I have a 1990 2CV6 Charleston and 2018/19 C4 Cactus.. love them both.
The C5X is tempting..
I would prefer a Hybrid where the electric motor drives the rear wheels and ICE engine the front wheel giving you all wheel drive.
I will be more tempted by a 2 year old low mileage example
Have had BMW'S (all 5 series) for many years now but am really looking forward to delivery of my C5X hybrid in July! Great review by the way.
What do you think of the car thus far, I hope you've received and did drive it so far? :) Looking into buying one myself.
@@YulianV1990 Extremely pleased with it. Drives like a dream, beyond expectations. Very attractive to look at and high standard of finish. Pearl white with black roof, black interior, all extras except for roof bars and massage seat. Charges quicker than thought via dedicated domestic charging socket. Certainly pleased with my decision to buy one.
@@iansearle5349 Thank you Ian for your response. I did a test drive for 1 hour on the non hybrid version and I am very pleased and impressed with the car. I don't think I am going to buy the hybrid though, it's 10000 eur extra and there are no incentives to do so. I guess the fuel economy might be better, but the test car I did had average of 7/100 consumption for the past 3000 km of test drives. Hows yours doing? I appreciate you helping and answering :)
@@YulianV1990 Extremely pleased with the car, I purchased the Hybrid version because of the excellent incentives offered by the Spanish government. If they weren't available I would have bought the 4 cylinder petrol version without hesitation. Good luck!
@@iansearle5349 Thanks, bud. Appreciate you taking time to explain over :)
Thanks for the review. I was wondering how this car compares to a Subaru Outback from a comfort point of view.
The Subaru Ouback is some kind of very good 4X4 that is not intended for this market of very comfortable touring.
Not really going back to what they know comfort-wise, as it's not hydropneumatic, such a shame, the new system my be comfortable, but has none of the other hydraulic advantages. Nice review, good luck with your channel. (A CX owner).
The hydraulic-system is only an advantage for the workshop..
What was the mpg?
They need to start moving the fuse box over and move the brand a little more down market with the DS brand being a thing now
I quite fancy one of these for the wafting about. It would have to be a lease though as I reckon the depreciation will be terrible.
Loving this car, really hope it is a success for citroen, I fear that the SUV (which I own) will not shift...... I for one am thinking of changing
Can I get it in Canada?
Own one, drive one, best car I have ever driven, by the way it's my fifth Citroen
It just looks odd! I applaud Citroen for trying, but I do think it’s a car that not many people will want. A bit like the Avantime?
You have to hand it to the French.Unlike the British, they supported their car industry through thick and thin and although they had some pretty bad times, their cars are now emerging with the respect they deserve.I like many French cars now and if these cars can't be bought new,i would think they will make a great 2 year old used buy.A very good review and a very good car,it seems.
17:26 Volume knob is rather for passenger... Driver can change volume on the steering wheel, cannot?
It really does seem like a very posh car. Reminds me of the BMW GranTurismos it’s not that different from the C5 Aircross.
Would be great to see Renault do a new Laguna like this but probably not going to happen :(
This is acar we all love.....and we don't know why!
what is mpg for petrol Citroen C5 X 1.2 PureTech 130 Shine 5dr EAT8 Petrol Estate
It all comes down to the cupholders.
What distance will it do in hybrid before the battery runs out.
55Km 100% electric.
There is only one flaw in this car...break lights in the lower back that are not used and are cosmetic only.
Hooray, a comfortable car again. I’m sick of rock-hard rides in friends’ horrible German cars.
test drove it today, fantastic car, but it seems to have flopped in the UK, never seen one on the road! terrible shame
Xantia wasn’t a big seller in 🇬🇧 what? Where were you between 83-01????
The seating position unfortunately isn't optimal...an Audi A4 e.g. has much, really much more leg room for the driver / more range for adjusting the steering wheel... especially for long legged drivers. Given the rather long wheelbase...its almost a shame. Also it feels a bit claustrophobic, given its size.
How about the maintenance cost and reliability? Can it last 200K miles without major breakdown? Appreciate your comments! Joe
My Citroen C4, 2008, 270000km (240 on LPG), without any serious problems... only fuel and oil, of course filters and suspension...Citroen is underrated, no one knows why because there are only VW group cars seen dead on the highways..🤣
Originale all'esterno, mix di C4 e C5 Aircross all'interno, purtroppo non ci sono più le Citroen di un tempo (comprese le sospensioni idropneumatiche).
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Is that used a lot
There is one thing that bothers me about this car: it doesn't have rear heated seats even as an option. There is no excuse for that in a big family cruiser like this, especially considering that the new Opel Astra does have them as an option. There will often be passengers in the back and they won't be enjoying the trip in winter.
Why not use a blanket?
Heated seats is for people who fancy having prostata cancer..
Nice, but I'm keeping my Toy R4P.
How about petrol
Nice but roof to low, obviously made for short people
This C5X seems pretty likeable, however: 1) pity, they do not offer auto-dimming side mirrors anymore; and I do most of my driving in the dark, 2) pity, they do not offer diesel plug-in hybrid.
He's talking about Mondeo's and insignias which are 20 years old and not in production!!
‘He’ filmed this nearly two years ago when Mondeos and Insignias were still on sale
Although this vehicle is made in China it’s still a French car. Like Triumph motorcycles are made in Thailand and Royal Enfield are produced in India who cares? I’m not going to mention the war here but if this car didn’t have a Citroen badge on the bonnet who would guess where it’s produced? If you not interested in outright performance then like me I want a glider as in going over the potholes in the U.K. not noticing said potholes then this might tick all the boxes. I’m not a fan of BMW cars but if this car didn’t have a Citroen badge I wouldn’t be surprised that it would give BMW a run for its money if only in the comfort stakes. Like for like I’d go for this C5X any day.
It is different, it looks OK from the inside, from the outside it wants to be something like a Volvo v90 only more painful to look at. I like the technology but at least for me it looks not likable with this new lights which are copied by Kia, Hyundai... I do not find it attractive.
No hydropneumatic suspension? Not really interesting. The "old" C5 was far superior when it came to "lean back and relax", even on windy British roads.
I don't get what's wrong with people, why is the saloon dying?? I just can't wrap my head round getting a more expensive less economical SUV or crossover, over a more dynamic arguably better looking saloon
I really like this car, only thing that worries me... am I right in seeing that this car is fitted with 205 width tyres? The same car which in hybrid form weighs 1.7 tonnes!? I'd be worried about safety, after having driven a 1.7 tonne car on 215, which instantly felt far safer on 235 width tyres!
I really like the car, the review was interesting, as if Alan Carr was impersonating Quentin Wilson.
Just driving around and chatting, is not my idea of a car review, What is under the bonnet ???, Is their a trailer hook? What is the multilink rear axel for a kind. Whether the volume knob is here or there I do not mind, is the rear bootlid foot operated or with hands, because that would be a real miss when You come from the shop with Your hands full ect ect. Mentioning the soft ride again and again is a little wast of the listeners ears, try to give it the pedal and check how this works. Even a Citroen owner has to give it the pedal-when the wife is having a baby or the mother in law is chasing You. ect. Just because You like Citroens, it do not mean that You could nt be in a hurry Yes.. I drive the former C5, and it is comfy, but it can speed too
I always admired Citroën...my first car was a 1991 AX ...this has ugly proportions...sad...
中国产的和欧洲的很多地方都减配了 我有一辆
I went to my local Citroen dealer last weekend to ask about ordering a C5x and they didn’t even know what it was.
What?! 😵💫I`ve got to ask where are you from? Because that kind of ignorance is inexcusable really.🤔
I went to a Citroen dealer Friday ( 30 miles from where I live because local dealer hadn't had their showroom model delivered yet) and it knocked me out. Absolutely beautiful inside and out.
So I've ordered one on lease ( not phev) and unbelievably their is stock and I should get it by end of this month or first week august. Can't wait
If it was an EV I’d buy it today. Oh wait, you can’t buy one in the US at all. Bummer.
awesome car - sick of German car fetishism
I would love to have had a Citroën c6 but the wife Says no
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Woooh, very elegant and modern at the same time style. 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆👏👏🏻👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿👏🏻👏🏼👏🏻
Wait a year, less than half price but expect bills. Usual French junk.
