    EDIT: ‼Based on feedback from others, it seems that 64 GB RAM does not work on vPro processors. Maximum RAM for these CPUs is 48 GB (16 GB + 32 GB). I have updated the product links accordingly.‼
    ‼ Does 64 GB of RAM really work? I talk about it in the improved audio version of this video. Watch that instead: ruclips.net/video/oUe6xDXSZvA/видео.html ‼
    Links for the RAM. Full disclosure: these are affiliate links, and I earn a little from the traffic upon checkout but don't get any share from the products themselves:

    64 GB RAM on T480 with Intel Core i7-8650U!!! Yesterday, I upgraded my T480 from 32 GB to 64 GB using 2 sticks of Crucial 32GB SODIMM DDR4 3200 PC4-25600 CL22 1.2V memory. Today, so far, so good. The BIOS and Windows OS both recognize all 64 GB of memory.

    • @ChezDoesStuff
      @ChezDoesStuff  Год назад +4

      The sticks I used were TeamGroup T-Creates from Amazon. I'll follow up with a link later today.
      The reason why 32 GB is often quoted as the limit for T480s and T580s is that only 16 GB sticks were available when these laptops were launched. The use of 32 GB sticks to make 64 GB total in T480s and T580s is well documented in the Thinkpad subreddit. I have a T580 video about the same upgrade going live in a few weeks.
      Hope this helps!

    Thanks for the video :) I inserted one additional 16gb ram module into my T480 (there was one 16gb module before, so now there are two modules with 32gb total). The frequency, voltage and CAS timings are the same, brand is different. The modules run in a single channel mode though. Do you know what might be the reason? Do your rams operate in dual channel mode?

    • @scr4bble

    • @ChezDoesStuff
      @ChezDoesStuff  Год назад +2

      You're welcome! Hmm looks like you've solved your dual channel issue. I can only speak of the frequency: the T480 (and T580) can only support up to 2400 MHz. Nonetheless, I went with 3200 MHz RAM sticks just in case I get a machine that does support their full frequency in the future. Scaled back to 2400 MHz, the RAM modules I have operate at CAS 17. At 3200 MHz, they're advertised to run at CAS 22.

      As promised, I have the link below. You'd want DDR4 SODIMM. The RAM sticks I bought are 3200 MHz capable, but the T480 and T580 cap it at 2400 MHz. I bought them anyway, so I have something relatively future-proof, should I choose to move on to a newer laptop in the future.
      At 2400 MHz, the T480/T580 runs the RAM at 17 CAS latency, which is at par with the OEM Samsung sticks that were in my machines when they shipped out from the factory.

      I'm thinking that all is working well, because the specifications is 2400mhz but is dual channel, so 1200mhz it's ok. Every ram module is working on average of 650mhz. The two banks of dual channel RAM, each operating at approximately 600 MHz, the total effective frequency will be approximately 1200 MHz. DDR (Double Data Rate) RAM transmits data on both the rising and falling edges of the clock signal, the which means the actual frequency will be double the clock frequency. Therefore, if your RAM is specified at 2400 MHz, the effective clock frequency will be 1200 MHz.

      Hi there! The RAM sticks I got are 3200 MHz CL22, but the T480 can only do until 2400 MHz. At this frequency, the latency is at CL17. The high frequency will only be useful when I upgrade to a different laptop someday.
