    The shoulder is very complex. It has a lot of muscles and different articulations. The clavicle (collarbone) connects to the part of the sternum and the top of the scapula - there are a lot of major muscle groups that are attached to it. In this video, Dr. Berg shares a simple hack for shoulder pain.

    Yes this is a good exercise. I have , unfortunately alot of experience with shoulder pain due to years over powerlifting and I have 2 thickness tears in supraspinatus in both shoulders which were painful but so far do not require surgery. What PT's have told me over the years is that most of us have a forward leaning or rounding bias because we don't get enough exercise with shoulder abduction, we get too much ADDuction even in our daily kineisis or movement, which leaves certain muscles weak, namely the shoulder blade muscles. if we strengthen those, it opens up the shoulder joint and pulls things back and makes your posture more neutral. Since I have done these exercises to strengthen the shoulder blade muscles, my pain has completely disappeared.

      Bill Bates
      I too have a full thickness tear in my supraspinatus. I’m working at avoiding surgery because I don’t like being out of commission for months! There’s no guarantees that it would be successful either. Glad to hear your pain is getting better.

      C Mitchell
      I know your question was directed to Bill, but I thought I’d share this with you.
      As well as Dr. Berg’s wonderful advice, I ordered a book on Amazon called “Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff” by a PT named Jim Johnson. I ordered it after reading unanimously high reviews. Since I’ve started the exercises, I can even sleep on the affected shoulder again. The exercises are simple yet effective. 😊

    • @billbates5475
      @billbates5475 5 лет назад +2

      elbow pushups, band stretches over your head and pull outwards down to your chest. I would direct you to another channel here on youtube that displays these but I think that its not polite to dr berg. My tear is different than your though. Mine is a partial thickness tear. Hanging from a pullup bar and not pulling up with your biceps or lats and only using your shoulder blade muscles is excellent too, you hardlyl move but it works. If you do the band stretches make sure you use a band with light resistance. I got one from amazon and it is red, the colors let you know the resistance level. BTW they also call elbow pushups "plank" pushups. The whole point is to strenghthen the muscles around the shoulder blades , opening up the joint, allowing more room for movement as you know you always hear a popping sound when you move your shoulders a certain way. I also take 6mgs of boron a day, it helps these things.

    • @billbates5475
      @billbates5475 5 лет назад +1

      Dale I have avoided surgery at all costs. It will take 3-4 months of recovery and some tell me it may not work so I have decided to try and treat it myself. It is a long process but it does show results. Only thing is you cant stop.

    Thanks a million Dr Berg! I had a muscle or not I was scared was cancerous or something like that but after working at it for a while it basically disappeared and it feels so great since I’ve been having shoulder pain for over a month as a result of bad knots in my back from an accident so thank you again Dr berg
