    My Dad was a taxi driver and he collected different currencies, anytime he had someone in his cab from another part of the world, he would ask for a dollar from their homeland. I remember after he died I found his old wallet with all the different bills in it. That driver asking you for a dollar reminded me of it.

    It is very old market. It's name literally means Thieves market. it was originally called Shor Bazaar, meaning "noisy market", but "shor" became "chor" because of how the British mispronounced the word.

      I have a better one for you:
      I've bought a car from Bristol UK, from a very very known big dealer, and before taking the car it is costumed to service it. I noticed that the ornament from the passenger door handle missing and asked for it to be installed.
      Came the next day to take the car the ornament was installed... from the rear driver side, where in place was masking tape. Very poor electric tape to be more precise...
      And that is just an example.
      Also a different transmission belt and a 99% dead battery and a non functional remote key....

    hi, the origin story of chor bazaar is
    when british ruled this subcontinent,they came at this bazaar and noticed that it's too noisy and loud so they said "bohot shor hai" means its too noisy and it sounded like "bohot chor hai" means there are so many theif , some of the englishmen had to learn hindie(local language) . and because of their accent shor (noise) sounded like chor (theif) .......from then some how the market named after chor bazaar.....amazing video by the way ..... loved it...and pardon my english.....i am a bengali.

I sometimes had to walk a block in the wrong direction because the traffic was crazy to the extent I didn't dare cross some streets. Imagine walking across a 6 lane LA highway during rush hour. not sure why nobody commented on this yet, but the actual market to hunt electronic parts & 2nd hand cellphones would be Lamington Road in Mumbai. In New Delhi the electronic markets are Nehru Place, Lajpat Rai (old delhi) & Gaffar Market. In Bangalore, SP Road serves the purpose but its not as large as its counterparts in Delhi/Mumbai.
    Most of the products are likely to be subset of what you found in china, but the repair services offered are very unique in india.
    Good Luck @Strange Parts !!!

    If anyone was wondering the one Indian guy who was hammering a square box of sheet metal one side was smaller and the other was larger.what it was is a transition fitting for a residential furnace most likely by the size and what it does is comes off the furnace and connects to the duct work when your changing one that breaks in someone’s house and what he was doing is making a hem flange so you can screw it to the furnace.that was actually a sheet metal fabrication shop and what he does all day is make different duct fittings for heating and air condition not many people know how to fabricate by hand like that anymore cause in America mostly machines do a lot of the work they measure it cut it some bend it so then you only need to grab some no body off the street to hammer it together I learned how to fabricate by hand and I feel like it’s a lost talent or something you just don’t see that anymore with all the machines these days.

    • @angelogoreham4155
      @angelogoreham4155 6 лет назад +2

      Jim T I was saying there’s not many shops that do it all by hand the guy was doing it on the corner of the street all by hand I’m sure when you where doing It since you were a kid you were doing it in a shop also I said that machines do a lot of stuff that the old school people use to do without all the technology we have today and why call it crap no trade is better than another there all skills I understand what your saying about welding that I never mentioned anyways and why say that I said something dumb I never said there was no tradesmen in America.

    • @angelogoreham4155
      @angelogoreham4155 6 лет назад +3

      Jim T I hear you I use hand tools and do it out of a back of a van or truck and have done it right on the job as far a sheet metal shops I’ve seen a lot change over the years like even we use to have a guy that did spot welding for like 16 gauge sheet metal up to 26 gauge and they got a machine to do it and he got replaced by that also we got a cybermation machine that cuts out the fittings or whatever is needed out of the sheet metal that replaced another guy as far as trades growing in America that I agree with you.I’m only talking about HVAC and how fabrication is not the same as it was 20 years ago with advances in technology. I’m not knocking anything your saying just trying to have an intelligent conversation also I do agree that sheet metal fabrication isn’t rocket science and isn’t that hard but to say it’s crap and doesn’t take much skill isn’t true cause I’ve seen people not know what an eighth of an inch is or a sixteenth or not understand how to gauge metal after explaining it to them. I’ve seen guys come out of school and still struggle with certain things in a shop.

I did business with the indians for nearly 30 years, while I helped de-industrialise the uk and industrialise India. they loved little swiss mechanical machines but I ended up selling early CNC machines from the west, up until they wanted the highest tech stuff we could find for them. Then it all went tits-up. It's a tuff place for westeners to get their hears around. Bless you guys for showing it on your channel.

    Welcome to Mumbai Scotty. Great vlog but you have totally missed the electronics scene of Mumbai.The market you visited was Chor Bazar located in the depths of Grant road, you would find nothing strange there on regular weekdays, that place should be visited on Fridays at about 4-5 in the morning, I bet you will find some cool stuff (take care of your belongings though :). If you are still in Mumbai, you should visit "Lamington Road", just take a right as you get out of Grant Road railway station, and go through the bridge. Here you will find endless lanes with endless shops dealing with all types of electronics, a goldmine for electronics enthusiasts. If you are looking for more commercialized electronics market, visit "Manish market" at fort. Enough said, HMU if you need more proper addresses, I would be glad to help.

    If you liked the Thief’s market in India, I’d say the the Pettah Market over here in Sri Lanka is a lot better in terms of tech. I literally saw a guy selling a “iPhone Xs Max” which was an android device which had an Apple sticker on the back. Great place for weird tech.

    After the guy took a selfie, and you transitioned to the “tool zone” as you called it, I thought you were dissing that guy 😂

      In India if u need a foreign currency u really need. Passport and for a passport u need a permanent residence so these taxi drivers love to keep foreign currency and ask foreigners for their country's currency because they usually cannot buy one
