Is Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza worth trying? I've never had it. 🌮🍕
Omg yesss, but you have to get it with a side of guac and then put the guac on top!
If you can get one, I say try it. It actually has some ingredients that make it a little different from the rest of the menu. I'm sure this is why they got rid of it (lower inventory) and why it's hard to find now (sold out of the ingredients unique to that product).
YES!!! I was so angry when they nixed it. It was a staple when I went there. Gordita crunch and pizza. Fave combo
They are for sure worth trying!!
Definitely! Can you please make a video making the cheese sauce from scratch? I found a recipe online that made the cheese sauce from scratch but never got around to trying it!
My step dad and I both loved the crunch wrap and would call each other every time we would order one! He passed away in 2010 but these still remind me of him!
Aww...
❤ that is really sweet
My dad passed away last year 😢
That's so sweet, and a really cool memory.
❤️❤️
Would love to see this "Stretch Your Budget" theme become a new series! It would be Hard Times adjacent except perhaps more appetizing recipes
I made these last night and they were a hit! They are also really easy to make and assemble once you have everything laid out. My family is vegetarian, so we replaced the meat with refried beans (whole pinto or black could work too) and was a really good substitute and also cheaper than meat. We had some of the produce and beans already so when we calculated what we bought from the store, it was only about $0.90 per! Can't get a deal like that at Taco Bell!
Edit: Also, a tip, put 2 tostadas in it if you want it to stay crunchy longer that 3 minutes. It starts getting soggy real fast.
I like how even though you grew your own tomato, you included the price of a store bought one for those that don't have a garden. That's really awesome.
For $5.99 you're definitely paying extra for someone else's labor to make it, and you don't have to grocery shop, cook it yourself, or wash dishes. BUT. I love that this saves money and allows for creative freedom. The other day I made homemade crunch wraps with some leftover chicken enchilada filling I had made and they were excellent. :)
Let's hear it for leftovers! There are countless restaurant copy cat recipes online. With some serious budget watching, a crunch wrap can be made for $1 resulting in a huge savings when you have a family. Fast food can usually be made at 6 for the price of 1 at the window. The price savings of making a restaurant meal at home isn't in the same stratosphere.
hibernationdream
most of the cost isn't labor, it's just profit for the company. they buy those ingredients for half or less of what you would pay in a store.
sadly taco bell and other ff hasn't been worth it for nearly a decade, prices keep going up and it isn't due to inflation, it's just corporate greed.
@@rocksfire4390 most of the cost isn't profit, it's overhead. Not only are you paying for someone else's labor, you're paying for their benefits (if any), their payroll taxes, the restaurant's utilities, their landlord's real estate taxes, the rent, the business license fees, the exhaust hood maintenance, the parking lot repaving, the poor guy who has to go around 2x per day cleaning up everyone's litter, the pest control contract to kill the roaches, and oh my fucking God the taxes. Taxes on taxes on taxes.
@@notreallydaedalus
those costs are a tiny fraction of their total running cost, most or rather nearly all of that can be written off for tax purposes. that's right, the building cost, the utilities, rent, fees, just about anything you can think of (long as it relates to the business) can be written off (no this isn't tax advise).
they hardly pay anything in taxes because all of the stuff they use to run their business smashes all of that and they are left paying a tiny amount in taxes that someone working at one of these places likely makes in a entire year.
if they are not writing everything they can off, then they are fools and if they are...well i know they are...they got plenty of profit to buy multiple yachts, i'm sure they could cough up a bit to pay their workers more, lower prices and still be able to afford 2 yachts, instead of their 6-10.
@@rocksfire4390 Just wonder if you ever run a restaurant or a business yourself. Easy said than done!
One thought: Taco bell meat uses diced onions as filler. Just take an onion, and it in the blender for a second, and you'll get there. I would say about half an onion per lb to get about the same flavor. Also, you can get there with taco seasoning, but mild taco sauce will get you closer too. Hope that helps. Love ya
I always wondered why I could never get the taco bell texture. Thanks.
I like watching Emmy after scary videos before I go to bed, she’s so calm 🖤
"Permutations of the same ingredients..." is the intellectual way to say everything at Taco Bell tastes the same.
Keith from the Try Guys did a "I ate everything from Taco Bell" video and he literally started throwing things into a bucket if they tasted the same. Dude did not hold back on this particular aspect of the TB menu lol
yeah same with most mexican american food tbh, for some reason americans dont like the more unique recipes
That’s funny. I always would say everything at the old country buffet tasted the same, from ice cream to beef.
I ate americanized Mexican food growing up. Then, I found authentic Mexican food, and realized what I was missing. I'm an adventurous eater, so I will try anything. Two guys I worked with constructed a make shift pressure cooker to cook a cow head for either Christmas eve or new years. They offered me an eye. It was good and I would eat another.
Texture and individual ingredients make a difference depending on what is ordered.
My wife and I made this and its exactly how Taco bell's version tastes . Easy to make and cheap. Thanks for sharing this !! Dave and Darlene
I've been making a simpler version of this for years. On our "taco nights", we buy the taco meal packs that have hard & soft shell tacos. We warm all the shells up per package instructions. Smear cheese sauce on the soft taco shell and stick it to a hard taco shell and then fill up the hard taco shell. The ingredients are the same, just a bit easier to make.
Emmy I love how you broke down the price of Taco BELL vs Your Recipe. It really helps especially if ur on a budget AND it challenges your culinary know how🤩 . ID love to see another Versus Video. I love your videos...even my 19 year old nephew loves them ❤️❤️❤️
You have to make the MEXICAN PIZZA. Taco bell was my first job and it's so good. Many people don't know that they have a special pizza-style red sauce specifically for this item! I would love to see your take on it.
The Mexican pizza was pretty awesome!
Welp. I finally had to subscribe because of this video of all things. I made this for my family today alongside black beans and rice and they devoured it. Even the picky 9 year old ate a whole one by himself. Thanks for the inspiration!
Honestly the crunchwrap you got from taco bell even though it had been sitting did not look how it normally does. Looks like they made it VERY crappy. The one you made looks how the crunchwraps look here so great job! In terms of Taco bell sauce the HOT is my favorite. Best flavor even though it's not spicy the best in flavor in my opinion
I thought the same thing it was very poorly made
I've never had taco bell because I'm actually Mexican so I eat genuine Mexican food most of the time BUT! this crunchwrap supreme thing had me intrigued so I made it and omg it was so good, I loved the combination of textures.
I recommend using CHILORIO, which is seasoned fatty spicy shreded pork. You save your time cooking down ground meat and it's already seasoned, you only need to reheat it. Used that because that's what i had in my fridge, I'm just not a fan of ground meat and I only buy it when making burgers. And there's a turkey version as well, for those that don't eat pork
my mexican grandad loved taco bell as much as authentic food lol. to me taco bell is american food with a coat of texmex paint lol. def gonna try some chilorio cuz i’ve never had it. i’m very american 😅
Taco Bell beef is like imitation picadillo, minus the raisins and capers. And they use way more cumin than I've ever had at any of my Mexican friends' homes, or at a real, authentic Mexican restaurant. Only place that uses more I've found is Chipotle's. (Why I refer to them as "Cal-Mex." 😁 Seems like a California thing...)
That sounds amazing. Do you have a particular brand that you'd recommend? Or any to stay away from? I've never been a fan of ground beef when doing homemade "Mexican" food (really just heavily Americanized).
@@TechnoSkittles Hmm the only brand that I’ve tried that’s available in the USA is “Chata”. It doesn’t really compare to the homemade versions that we buy at our local markets here in Mexico but it’s a good brand, way better than ground meat with “taco” seasoning mix. If there are any mexican markets where you live I recommend you to visit and ask for homemade Chilorio, if you can’t find it the Chata brand will do!
@@AlexisTwoLastNames Some people be like that, my Mexican-American family loves that stuff too 😅 I don’t really like ground meat so I stay away from the fake Mexican restaurants when I visit the USA, I prefer to try Indian, Egyptian, African, Thai etc restaurants because those are difficult to find here in Mexico
This is a great recipe! I will be happy to try this, I will make one suggestion to add a small squirt of tomato paste or adobo sauce (from a chipotle in adobo sauce can) to the meat with the seasoning it will bond better to the acidity of the sauce and wont increase the cost much since a little goes a long way.
Yayyy!!! I’m recovering from stupid Covid and I’ve watched Emmy for 4 days!!!! I needed a new video and that sweet smile!!!!! Much love to Emmy and all the beautiful lovelies!!!!!
Get well soon!
Poor thing. Well take this chance to catch up on all your RUclips videos.
Hope you feel much better now.. Get well soon
COVID is no fun! I hope you feel better soon.
feeling any better today?
Shout out to all you Chalupas out there! 🙏
Thank god for this. I used to get Taco Bell with my dad every time he visited and we both loved it, but now I live in a no-fast-food area of the city and I admit I get cravings. The crunchwrap is my favorite menu item, too!
Perfect!
My family makes me make this everytime I visit. I use or make taco seasoning, add sour cream, then cheese of choice and throw it on a panini grill to cook both sides at once. The sour cream meshes with the cheese and it gets suuuuper gooey and cheesey, thrown in with some onion and rice, anything of your choice really. Spanish rice, plain rice, rice-a-roni even, Red pepper, bell peppers, etc... Plus, they packed full when home made of course. Like a quarter pound or more. Super rich but it will give you the meat sweats thats for sure. xD
My family went vegetarian years ago. We started making crunch wraps at home because at that time, most places weren’t making much vegetarian options. We layer things a little different in our crunch wraps. In the center of the tortilla, we put some sour cream, chipotle sauce, lettuce tomatoes, tostada, refied beans, meat and top with cheese. We didn’t want our lettuce to be cooked and we top with cheese so that it helps bind the crunch wrap closed. It’s one of our families favorite quick meals.
I always used to order the Mexican pizza with no meat because you can just get it with the beans! I’d get guacamole on the side & add it on top, hehe yumm
@@vinessac I don't think I ever tried the Mexican Pizza. It's been years now since I had Taco Bell.I'll have to look up the Mexican Pizza and make it at home!
Perfect timing. 👌🙂
Noice!
My husband and kids actually like my version of this better than the bell. Homemade is just better sometimes. 😀
Definitely, and it doesn't look like it was made rush to order. You and this host also put some love into making it.
I love the crunchwrap Supreme at Taco Bell but I also love saving money. I enjoyed the breakdown of what things cost per item, but there are always ways to save even more. At Walmart, (maybe not everywhere, but local to me) we buy the Taco Bell brand Taco seasoning packet and they are typically about 60 cents per packet. Also, when buying ground beef, we buy in bulk and separate into portions then freeze, as many people do. Penny pinching is a must in the current economy. ❤ Thanks for the video.
Emmy has oen of the most comforting and soothing voices ever. She should seriously consider getting into voice-overs or audio books.
You’re AWESOME for posting this!!!! Thank you! Did you know Taco Bell is one of the leading fast food chains that uses the least amount of sodium in their food! Very good to know!!!! Also, I worked at T-Bell during high school! I was there when the crucnchwrap supreme, cheesy fiesta potatoes, and caramel apple empanada came out!
Taco bell is one of the only places I've known people that worked that still eat there.... which says tons. I really think it's underrated.
@@mlplife yes!!! I still eat there 😃 I’m so happy they brought the Mexican Pizza back and I wish they would bring the Caesar Chicken Grilled Stuft Burrito back!!! …along with the caramel apple empanada
You're awesome, Danielle!
@@risboturbide9396 thanks! You are too!
@@danielle1103 cheers 🍻🍻 have a good night!
I found my recipe to try for tomorrow's lunch 😍👍🏻Your version looks so delicious ...can't wait to make these.I might add a few extras like spicy beans and extra shredded cheese.😁❤️🌮
Your version looks delicious 😋
I'm going to try it.
Thanks Emmy 🤗
I adore crunchwraps, so I’m definitely doing this when I can!
They actually have Taco Bell brand seasoning packets now! This is a great recipe; never thought of how easy it could be to make my own crunchwrap. They're so good with chicken!
Yum!!
Thank you for sharing this!!
Love you and your channel!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Emmy! The HOT taco bell sauce (orange packet) is the best one!
I just made this and it's stellar! Thanks Emmy! Love your videos!
Just recently started getting into your videos:) thank you for sharing these
Crunchwrap Supreme is my go to on the Taco Bell menu on the rare occasion I eat there. It's delicious!
Emmy this is the first thing I've tried to make from your channel and it was a big hit! Thank you.
I just made these thanks to you! I'd never had the TB version either... My husband loved them! Super easy lunch/dinner!
I've been making a similar little package of whatever yummy insides were available in the fridge, for years. I make it in my panini press machine and all my kids (now grown) have a little package of food in their hand and everyone is satisfied. I've made it with taco meat and I've also made it with bulgogi meat, any left over can go in this little tortilla package. It is a HIT! Thanks Emmy.
I just made this, it was so good! Thanks, Emmy!
I love all your budget food videos, thank you!
I always order a side of chips and cheese if I get a Crunchwrap. That way if I can’t eat it immediately, I add the chips to the Crunchwrap to bring back the crunchiness. Plus I just love the extra nacho cheese for dipping 😊
I need to make these! TY, Emmy!
Great episode with information that is actually useful and still has your amazing entertainment factor.
I just made these, and enjoyed them. I never would even have thought of it if not for you! 😀
Emmy you are literally one of my favorite people ever ilysm ❤️
I am totally trying this. Simple, tasty, customizable...my kids will love it!
I definitely have to try this. Thank You🌹
You're homemade version looks a whole lot more like the original that I grew up eating than the one that came from Taco Bell. I may have to try making my own now, this sounds so delicious.
Love these. I make mine with nacho Doritos on the inside for crunch. My family LOVES them.
Side note: I make sure there's lettuce in between the Doritos and everything else so the Doritos don't get soggy.
Very cool walkthrough. I remember making them when I worked at Taco Bell in high school around 2006 and the crunchwrap was still relatively new, we used to call them good to gos from the ads. fun video thanks.
YASSS Emmy’s saving us. I’d take her positive recipes over any other channel’s any day
You are just so darling! I absolutely love watching your videos even if the topic doesn’t interest me. Lol! Keep going!❤️
Great home made version!
I didnt realize that they were so easy. I have never had one. It looks delicious!
im definitely gonna do this!!
Your recreation of the crunch wrap looks so bright and colorful in comparison. Nice 👍
Thanks!
I make these all the time and they always come out great. I also made a buffalo chicken version, which was yummy too!
That looked so tasty. I'm totally going to make this!
These are my favorite!! I usually remove nacho sauce and add shredded cheese
We love you, Emmy!!!
Thank you, Melissa! 🧡
crunchwrap supreme with spicy ranch is so good!
I had to have emergency surgery to have my gallbladder removed back in December so I’ll have to find substitutes but I LOVE the crunch wrap!! Definitely gonna try this
You folded that tortilla like a pro. Omg. Idk what it is, but I can NEVER fold tortillas right even for burritos lol.
I've been binging your videos because they make me feel calm and safe when I've been extremely stressed out and feeling sick (can't take a break from work. Don't worry, not COVID). Thank you.
and now the Crunch Wrap varieties open up, chicken and jalapeno with cream cheese, soufritas with bacon and queso fresca shrimp and chimichurri with manchego, Emmy You Did It Again. Inspiration for Better Living. Thanks for this. !!
Yours looks better
Oh yeah!! I'm gonna do this 😋
You got me craving for this. I never had it and just went out and ordered one 🤦🏻♀️
These are probably my favourite things to get from Taco Bell 🤤
The way you mentioned at the beginning how you've never tried a crunch wrap before but you could still imagine the flavor based on other stuff you've had as it's all the same ingredients just in different presentations reminded me of how,, even though taco bell it's not aclkctually Mexican food,, a lot of Mexican "antojitos" or street food are all the same ingredients but served in different ways. Some form of corn masa (tortillas, tostadas, totopos, sopes, etc) beans and or a meat protein,, cheese,, crema,, salsa,, you can have it with lettuce,, tomato,, onions.. and get infinite combinations.
I love the Crunchwrap. It's one of my favorites. I order mine with added jalapeño ranch. Or sometimes the grace ranch. I think that's what they're called. Yummy 😋
The homemade versions are always better in my opinion. I think it is because you can add more meat and vegetables. Also, you can make sure your tostada is actually crunchy. Everytime I have bought one it has been soggy and almost no filling.
Another fun and informative video! Thank you.
I must try this!!!!
While this Emmy made version looks much better than any crunch wrap I've ever had, that was an especially sad crunch wrap you got 😭 But I bet that line cook didn't know their handiwork was going to be immortalized this way
OMG!!! Your version looks like the one you see on their commercial media! YAS PLEASE .... homemade it is! Gracias!
I have tried this, vegetarian style, and without the extra oil. Works great. A yummy package of deliciousness.
I always get a crunch wrap with beans instead of beef and its soo good
I love these! Now I can make them at home!
For everyone new to cooking: do not keep your cooked ground beef leftovers more than 3 days in the fridge. If you can't eat it all in that time, freeze it! Some food spoilage happens at fridge temps too, and isn't perceivable to our senses. Stay safe!
I make these at home also, it's great because you can add more or less of whatever you want and it's super fresh. So yummy
Dankeschön 🥰
I love these
I want your version...and I love the original. 😋
My family made these tonight it has been on the list since I seen this video a couple weeks ago. They are 1,000 times better then taco bell would ever serve
I make these in the panini press often! So good
Homemade is always better 🥰
That tomato did look yummy, did I miss it's variety? Also crunchwraps are my favorite! Now I'm starving, yours looked sooo much more tastey! They are the best on a hot day. With a small baja blast. 🥰
These are my go-to Taco Bell item
Made these for lunch often during lock down.
I came up with a taco bowl type meal my friend absolutely loves.
It's flavored rice, like rica a roni in Spanish or Mexican flavor. Ground hamburger with old El Paso taco seasoning. I use extra water & extra seasoning for a moist meat sauce. I also usually add a drained rotini tomatoes & peppers can into the meat too. Then refried beans & shreddedcheese. Occasionally I use whole milk cheese too. To with sour cream too. Layer everything in a bowl & serve. Rice, meat, beans, cheese, sour cream etc.
I think the next time we cook this that we're going to use the leftovers to make this the next day. Everything is pretty mixed up by then anyway. Plus maybe add some tortilla chips for the crunch too.
I’ve been DIYing crunch wraps since they came out. It’s easy
Yours looks so much better. I'm going to try this with ground turkey
I made this and it was so good! I used Taco Bell's powdered taco seasoning and I swapped the nacho cheese for white Queso which added a nice spiciness. I used more meat and better sour cream than Taco Bell uses. What I ended up with was much better than Taco Bell.
that tomato was beautiful!
Thanks for this video Emmy!! A Crunchwrap Supreme is my absolute favorite thing to get from Taco Bell!!
You're most welcome!
I love the crush wrap
Moe's has their own version that is amazing! Meat, rice, condiments galore the topped with the corn chip and wrapped in a huge flour tortilla. Grilled and so good. It makes taco bells version the diet size. Lol
Great idea, I bet subbing meat for black beans would make it even more affordable and veggie friendly.
If you wanted a little crunch and a little more heat make your own pickled peppers then add to any sandwich or wrap, I used Anaheim peppers. Quart jar (used a washed Mason spaghetti jar with original lid) put the following into the jar; white vinegar to taste (sorry I did not measure) water; leave about a 1.5" gap for adding peppers, garlic to taste dill seed to taste, I did not add any salt. Place UNLIDDED into your microwave (ours is 1200 watts) heat on 100% power for one minute. Meanwhile prepare peppers I removed all of the seeds (saved them to plant) and the ribs I cut them into strips. Remove jar from microwave add in sliced peppers put back into microwave for another minute at 100% power. Remove jar (USE HOT PAN HOLDERS). Tighten the lid onto the jar, turn upside down onto the counter until cool then refrigerate. Leave sit for about a week to blend flavors (you can shake to mix if you like), peppers will stay crunchy.
Hi Emmy, do you think you could try the San Sebastian cheesecake? I'm really curious about whether it's worth the hype
I highly recommend growing the Russian Pink variety of tomato. It's an heirloom variety, and I got my seeds from Baker Creek Seeds.
