I love the green. This cabinet was probably once a wash stand in someone's bedroom. There would have been a pitcher and basin on the top, a mirror on the wall above it, grooming paraphernalia in the drawer, and towels and washcloths in the lower cabinet. Even after the advent of indoor plumbing, most people still took care of their basic sanitary needs in the privacy of their bedrooms, so wash stands were not unusual. They were ultimately replaced by plumbed lavatories with hot and cold running water, some of which were tucked away privately in a bathing closet, and others of which just sat in a handy corner of the room. Some houses built around 1900 still have traces of bedroom sinks, if not the sinks, themselves.
