      If you’ve had like an egg custard, I’d say that’s the closest thing to an egg tart. Just think of egg custard on a flaky pastry. We have loads of it in Malaysia as well. It. Is. Good. Probably really unhealthy HAHA

    • @greywater3186
      @greywater3186 8 месяцев назад +4

      The one they said tasted like tea looked a lot like pumpkin pie. I suspect pumpkin pie is a variation of an egg tart - just with pumpkin and spice added in lieu of additional egg. They said the tarts were sweet, so I’m guessing eggs, cream, sugar, maybe brown sugar, and maybe vanilla baked into the pastry. This is just a guess, but years of baking leads me to think it’s something very close to that.
      The pastry looks like puff pastry or croissant pastry - very thin, rolled out with butter between the layers.

      @@sharonpaige1322 I looked up the recipe. Egg yolks, milk / cream, sugar, small amount of flour, vanilla (in some recipes), and cinnamon. I did see one highly rated recipe that didn’t call for sugar in the custard, that seemed to be an outlier as did one which called for a dash of lemon juice.
      The consistency looks similar to pecan pie filling though obviously it isn’t as good (I know that for a fact and I too have never had an egg tart. Pecan pie filling has more sugar, doesn’t use milk or flour, and uses the whole egg, but the liquid is basically the same. Meaning the consistency is the same minus the nuts obviously.) I’m thinking the tarts would be very mild in flavor, perhaps like tapioca pudding with some cinnamon?

      @@Vibernation I can only speak for myself, but I think it may have something to do with the fact that Portugal is not very well known on the world stage and we have so very much to offer. We're very proud of our culture (as anyone would be) and the pastel de nata is extremely popular in Portugal and one of our most traditional and famous desserts. It's a source of pride, culture and history. I don't see any sense in being triggered by it, Portuguese cuisine can be found world wide given our history of exploration and trade. But I know I certainly would love if there was more of a spotlight on Portugal (including our food) and it wasn't so obscure when it comes to travel vlogs.

    in some region in Asia, KFC do sell egg tart. and their recipe is originally from lord stow's wife, Margaret.

    As a local from Macau, I also prefer the southern Chinese style egg tart and the lord stow ones. 😋 I would usually have the Chinese one when having dim sum and the lord stow one from time to time 😋
    Haven’t really had the boba one, but I’m gonna buy one and try it after watching this video 😋

    I'm am so jealous...I grew up eating egg custard tarts at dim sum houses all my life, but the first time I tried one of these Portuguese egg tarts was heaven on earth. I've love to have these locally in Macau, and have the original version in Portugal, but, alas, traveling is out of my range of things we can do. Thankfully, we live in an area where we can get these.
