  • NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (45 - United Artists 950 and LP - United Artists 6491) Recorded at Bell Sound Studios on August 16, 1965, 'Let Me Try' b/w 'The World Is Mine' is the third of four singles that young actor/vocalist, Barry Gordon would issue on the United Artists label. Sixteen year old Barry Gordon delivers the goods with a delightful vocal performance on the Jack Gold production. Herb Bernstein's large arrangements feature the female portion of the Anne Phillips Singers in the foreground on 'Let Me Try' while on 'The World Is Mine', the three male voices join the ladies. No newcomer to the recording industry, Gordon had been making records since 1956 with his final recordings for Dunhill Records in 1969. Along with motion pictures and the stage, Barry Gordon appeared in many television programs throughout his career. His voice-over work includes that of a large list of animated and live action programs. He was the longest running president of the Screen Actors Guild from 1988-1995 and has taught courses in politics as well as hosted various radio shows.

It’s nice to see that the “Brill Building” folk were still putting out good songs despite the fact that by 1965 the attention of the music industry was moving to Los Angeles, Detroit, and London!

i have this 45 in my collection as well as a couple of other united artists singles, the production is what makes these records a pleasant experiene, he had a decent enough voice to carry the tune through but with these tio notch writers, arrangers and producers, it sure didn't hurt to have them around! thanks for sharing this.

I kind of get Walker Brothers vibes with this. Pleasant listen this morning, kind of in that “in between” style between the adult pop sound my parents liked and the sound that appealed to my baby boomer generation.

Best known for getting nothing for Christmas! But on the other hand he’s had a long career on film and TV as a character actor.

after listening to so many of these very stylized promos from the mid 1960s, I think the British invasion cancelled out just about every American-style production and by 1965'ish only those artists with tons of promotion behind them could make it beyond obscurity. blame Ed Sullivan.

Good song, but would have sounded better if recorded by The Righteous Brothers, as they had more consumable voices.
