Haute Route - Hiking from Chamonix to Zermatt in 11 Days

The Walker's Haute Route takes you from Chamonix (France) to Zermatt (Switzerland). The route connects two iconic mountain peaks, Mont Blanc and Matterhorn, and it traverses through the Alps taking you over 11 mountain passes along the way.
The hike has some variations and our route ended up being 213km with 14 000 meters of elevation gain in 11 days.
We hiked in full gear and we mixed wild camping, campgrounds, two hotels and one mountain hut.

Did this in 1982 while serving in The British Army. (2 troop, 12 Field Squadron, 25 Regiment, Royal Engineers). Zero training 12 days up the mountain, down the mountain. Best thing i've ever done. Bet you it looks completely different now without the snow?
