  • We're nearly done with Pinoyliga and Filoil, and there have been a lot of things to talk about. Who is in the rotation? Who is out of the rotation? How are teams going to play? All these questions have been answered to certain extent but as usual, there are still more question left unanswered.
    For this episode, the Boleros pick the storylines that are worth following for the remainder of the preseason.

    Agree with Gab that UP and La Salle have been challenged in the preseason and were almost beaten. It takes a good 3pt shooting and composure to beat both UP and LaSalle. Both teams have their own weaknesses. UP i think needs more inside presence which though serviceable on D, may struggle on offense. La Salle’s weakness is their playmaking from a PG or another player other than KQ. These weaknesses can be exploited and I think both UP and LaSalle are still a work in progress with regard to cleaning up their plays in the preseason.

    Great episode guys! Didn't expect another so soon but love the content. Also watched the UE-DLSU game today, I thought that game was over until KQ made a scoring run on his own which is crazy to think. All of you were right about teams needing to finish the game completely and UE just fumbled in the last 2 mins.
    Also, Lian Ramiro of DLSU played as well but definitely in the adjusting period, so far do you see him fill the missing piece as the primary point guard?

      We'll talk about it more in our next episode but for me, it's still a wait and see. Can he handle the pressure from UP's defense and produce on a high level? Let's be honest, right now, UP is the only one standing toe-to-toe with DLSU - Gab

      @@bolerosph I believe it's the other way around. UP is currently the undefeated team in the preseason. Also, La Salle got blown up by UP, 89-77. That is not toe-to-toe.

      Uhh i don't think you understood what i was trying to say 😂 what i meant was UP is the only team on the same tier as DLSU and Lian Romero will have to prove himself against UP because they are the only real challenger right now
      All of us already ranked UP higher than DLSU in our Power Rankings (check that episode) 😂 we're both on the same page naman haha

      @@bolerosph i've seen the rankings hehe i just think that UP is on another tier and that La Salle is the challenger here given that UP won the last Filoil. Again, I'm basing on recent results and not on the last UAAP season. So agree to disagree na lang pero La Salle is not on the same tier as UP at the moment or you could say for this month, until we get a rematch cguro.

    UE Almost beat DLSU today, until KQ took over and made a 9-0 run by himself under 25 seconds left in the clock, so Yeah. I think as long as KQ is there, teams aside from UP will have a Tough time to beat DLSU. That Man, is a Generational Talent.
    Edit: Great Show Gab, Sam and Maui! Please do an episode of power rankings naman ng FSA!

  • @phase250million

    Watched the Ateneo games against Adamson and UST and both games epitomized what is wrong with the Blue Eagles. First is the most obvious... the lack of a big that can bang and match up against the bigs of the other teams. These games were close until the other teams started featuring their bigs offensively, almost exclusively. Manzano and UST's FSA had a field day, especially during down the stretch. Lazaro and Porter were too short, Amos too slow, and Ong to thin. They won't be able to compete if this is the big man rotation, and this highlights the need for Balogun to be just decent, provide what Joseph Obasa gave the team last season. But yes, we haven't really seen much of him to see what he can do and what he can contribute.
    The second issue is actually the same issue that hurt them last season. The lack of a good playmaker, who will get his own or others shots when their system bogs down. Ian Espinosa is not him. He is a capable back up point guard who can be a sparkplug when the team needs a change of pace or a jolt off the bench. But he is too small to be the main creator for this team. He plays with heart, plays good defense, and can hit a shot or two, but if you rely on him to bail this team out when things get tight, then you're screwed. This further highlights Ateneo's need to have Jared Bahay live up to the hype. That's the proverbial glimmer of hope.
    Despite the losses, two things that Ateneo can build on is their perimeter defense and 3 point shooting. These have kept Ateneo in games and could be crucial building blocks going towards the UAAP season. But until we know what we're gonna get from Balogun and Bahay, Ateneo will probably be #8 in your power rankings all throughout this preseason.

      Also, tama ka rin, if there is one silver lining recently, our defense is still pretty good. We've held opponents to 63 pts or less in the past 3 games despite not having a rim protector. The offense just has to keep up

    Hi Guys!
    For me, I am anxiously anticipating the finals for both Pinoyliga and Filoil. Most likely, this will be between UP and DLSU. These are currently the two most dominant college teams in the country. I like parity, but at the highest performance possible. These two teams match up to each other and will surely provide two memorable games; at least before the UAAP wars begin.
    BTW. I will be watching the games on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday at Filoil. I hope to see you there!

    Lian Ramiro played na, clearly on an adjustment period since first game nya sa PH soil but may flashes, magamay lang nya mga teammates nya and system ni Coach Topex, he'll be fine. But KQ cooked in the dying mins of DLSU vs UE.

    With UE. Clearly, the problem is the bigs who can help Momowei. Hopefully,
    Rosete and Devin Fikes can play ahead of the UAAP. Both 6'5-6'6 Bigs who can help in the paint.
    Also, I hope Wilson & Penny, both PG, can join the red warriors soon. Both got one and done playin years with UE if they suit up.

    • @bolerosph
      @bolerosph  4 месяца назад

      Good point. They also need a more consistent playmaker. It seems like they're always finding answers among Cruz-Dumont, Mulingtapang, and Abate
      Hopefully, Wilson and Penny can provide it if ever they get to play

    I think Ateneo would have benefited more if Quitevis and Koon decided to forgo their final playing year. Both of them coming back kinda puts Ateneo in a weird spot where they will try to contend but at the same time find a way to develop a lot of the new players coming in to the program. On a postive note tho, Ateneo has a sneaky good young core. Jhouse along with his former teamates from cebu and gilas, Waki Espina from DLSZ and Femi Edu also. Hopefully they can build something with this group and get back to consistently winning in the future.

    • @bolerosph
      @bolerosph  4 месяца назад

      Hmm I'm conflicted. I see why you're saying that about Quitevis and Koon, but you need veterans in the mix IMO. It can't all be young guys.
      But yeah, Ateneo has a good young core. This is a normal cycle for any good program that has experienced prolonged success. At some point, you have to rebuild. Ateneo went through that after the 5-peat and we are going through it again
