I played Bass on the 2003 run of this Show with DVO and she was fantastic. Every performance was spot on, in tune, in time and played with great energy.
One of the best performances of this brilliant song. Denise brings out the yearning for peace and closure, then shows the pain of the regrets and heartache in the heartache. She does what every great performer needs to do - make the viewer feel with and about her and tells the complete story. Bravo!
I hadn't realised that Denise Van Outen has such a lovely voice! I have always loved this song but this is the first time I have heard it sung by Denise and I really love it! Before this evening I had only ever heard it sung by Marty Webb!
This song saddens me so much... but i can't stop listening. After 5 1/2 years i know its time 2 end my relationship w my soon 2 b former sweetheart. I hoped 4 SO MUCH when we met in Oct 2018. For the next 5 years I believed so furvently that something... anything would bring us closer together. But our meetups of 1 to 2 days per week has not changed 1 bit. This past January i began 2 realize/accept nothing was ever going 2 change.... nothing. At best a 1 to 2 days a week relationship. At 67 i'm done with hoping 4 luck 2 fall my way. 2 failed marriages and now this... my current 5 1/2 year relationship is about 2 come 2 an end. I love her SO much...but i never intended this 2 b just a part-time "thing" 4 us. Seems thats all she wants... & my heart is breaking, tears flowing as i listen 2 this song over & over again. I know it's time 4 me 2 move on....😥
I personally think that she sang this really well. She showed gut wrentching emotion. I am sure many others out there "get" that hopelessly lost, gut wrentching pain that you feel when the person you love, tells you that it is over. She has just made me live that pain again... Well done Denise, you managed to turn that knife one more time lol. It's funny how going back to that hurt is strangely comforting...Or is that just me? Still miss him so much.
Max Headroom It's really sad. I have to tell my girlfriend whose lived with me for the last 10 years that it's over. She is oblivious and has no idea. It won't be easy, ive had this song in my head for weeks. Bless her.
For the people who think Denise Van Outen's performance is poor, or she can't sing or act: she starred in the West End revival of this one woman show in 2003 which was a sell out for the year she was in it and had the role re-worked for her personally by Andrew Lloyd Weber. I think he may know a bit more about musical theatre than any of you guys - it may not be to your taste but you can't really call it 'trash'!
That’s an extraordinarily naive posting. People are cast regardless of whether they have no talent all the time. I’m making no comment specifically on Ms Van Out but grow up
@@bigred8432 I’m not talking about other people - I’m talking specifically about Denise van Outen and this performance. And it’s my opinion which I’m entitled to have. What is naive expecting someone of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s calibre to cast someone who can sing in a multi-million pound one woman show? I’m over 60 years old so think I’ve done as much growing up as I can thank you very much.
@@markiecamden Nobody said you weren't entitled to your opinion. And Webber is notorious for casting people who can't sing. I think Outen is fine, if mediocre but the man absolutely has form for casting purely for ticket selling purposes. He was also a raving drunk for the vast majority of the last thirty years and many of his discussions have come from that.
Blimey that caught me and got me all unnecessary! Didnt know DVO could even SING let alone produce a West End musical performance like this, very impressive.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
.....once in a while...you get hit right in the gut....and this song does that....sorry you are old enough to feel this....till then....have a drink on me
I wonder why they changed the last word..."night" (assuming that's what it is) doesn't sound half as effective as "please". Other than that, I like the performance.
Robert Price I agree. Not a patch on Marti Webb! I saw the revival with Denise with my daughter. She had grown up listening to Marti Webb’s version and we came away feeling flat. Then, a few months later, Marti Webb was announced as taking over (or re-taking?). We went to see Marti’s version (which reincorporated some of the old songs with the new material) and when we came out of the theatre afterwards, my daughter turned to me and said “THAT’S how you do it!”
I've seen a few different productions of this and The Girl is often played too forced, too stagey and too overemoted. You want to see the worst version? Look up the UTEP Version here on YT with Cristina Susong as The Girl - horribly, shlocky and fake. I know it can be hard to keep a balance of emotion and realness in this show, but a good actor can make it very believable. Denise isn't horrible but it's very "Look at me, I'm DANCING and ACTING and EMOTING"

Wow. That must have beem cool. I bet a lot of ppl were snobbish about it being denise van outen. But shes AMAZING
When I saw this song by Denise, I wondered if she could pull it off....
Could she heck?!?!?
Wow....
Take a bow, Denise!
A very underrated performer, I had the great good fortune to see her perform the who show love. Truly wonderful
Never knew Denise could sing like this. And act. Beautiful.

We’ve all had those moments when we realise how wrong we’ve been about someone’s level of talent, right? Denise Van Outen….take a bow, bravo!!! 👏🏻 ❤
I am seventy five years young and am so pleased to know that I can still be moved by a great performance
Denise is just amazing. I have listened to this so many times over the years, and it always makes me cry.
Remarkable and a class act by an extraordinarily talented young lady.
I must have been living in a forest all my life, I never knew Denise could sing like that, and the emotion as she's singing it. Beautiful Denise.
One can always tell when emotion is with the song.most I think then really worked back then.right voice, right song

I don't know why, but she should be known as a singer as much as anything else. So underrated.
I knew when this clip began, & I saw the emotion in the singer's face, that I was in for a treat. Bravo!!!
Denise is incredible in this clip
Simply superb - perfect pitch, perfect diction, simply the best version!
Remember being absolutely spellbound by DVO performing the whole show. Magnificent
I'm not a Lloyd Webber fan , but there's no denying the sincerity here, great performance.
Now that I am an adult, I think this is the best he wrote. It's my favorite.
Surprisingly brilliant. I really feel for her.
OMG... That last "Please!"
Brava!
I saw this show live all by myself. Spellbinding!!! Love you, Denise. You are so unbelievably talented. x
Wow! I never knew! I’m really impressed! Gorgeous!
Wow - moved to tears
Such expressive, realism in this performance, Bravo! I've experienced this in my life, so I can relate
Wow, what a great performance 👏👏👏
Nice to see the thumbs up outnumbering the thumbs down and positive comments outnumbering the spiteful ones. DVO sings the song well.
Beautiful!
Beautiful song, beautiful lady !
That was absolutely superb.
I had no idea Denise van Outen had this in her - sitting here in bits.
Love her more better than I could ever imagined
I have only just listened to the full performance. Sublime. I would love to see Nicole Schwarzinger sing this role too.
An amazing song. I didn't have Denise down as a singer / performer and in that respect I was wrong. This was, in my opinion, outstanding.

So beautiful voice. Really impressed!
Get performance. She was amazing in Chicago too.
What role did she play?.
@@Martin-es8mbShe was Velma Kelly. (London production)
The same role Samantha barks had in the Hollywood bowl production of Chicago
One very versatile talented lady.
You are amazing beautiful talented real and just wonderful DVO

Wow who knew she was so talented
I saw this in London, pretty sure it was 2003 or at latest 2003. Great voice.
Wonderful!
Perfect ❤❤
I've only ever known the original, with Marti Webb, so this was nice to see. Marti Webb is a hard act to follow.
Really good cover 10/10
Fabulous!
just fantastic
Unbelievable performance never knew Denise had in her. Mary Poppins or My Fair Lady productions anyone?
She isn’t a soprano
Great song and video ❤
Just lovely
beautiful

Brilliant.
I'm a manly man but this brought tears to my eyes. Thank you denise. x
You're really not.
Bravo !
연기 노래 감정까지 너무 잘하시네요

I love how she says "that's got chimpanzees "
I think she says "a park that's got shrimp and cheese."
@@elancrew9894 No. She doesn't.
Lovely woman!
Holy crap! Never knew she had pipes.
Very nice.
Wow! xxxxx
Excellent performance. Facebook more natural here.
She performs well. Very underrated
Excellent, full of feeling, perfect!
Love Marti Webb, but I actually think on this occasion, Denise sings it better.Pure emotion there. A very talented lady.
You can't beat Marti Webb!
I heard Marti Webb's version this morning on Radio 2, DVO has far more emotion in her version of the song.
My wife has something to tell me (tomorrow) which is Saturday, I want her to tell me whatever it is on a Sunday….😢….☹️….p.s damn good performance….😊
Sarah Brightman did this song on the DVD-Denise Van Outen does the song in the style of Sarah Brightman.
No
Outside her range? WUT. This is great.

How did glee never cover this song?
Thank goodness they left it alone!

If you are not moved by this, see a good doctor.
Rather a stupid thing to say. People can like different things to you. Idiot.
I find the breathy, whispered words, especially at the start of most phrases, quite distracting. That said, she was very good when I saw her. Brava.
Marti Webb's version is still the definitive one. Personally it's the only version I listen to.
I wonder why they changed the last word..."night" (assuming that's what it is) doesn't sound half as effective as "please".

Clean your ears. She clearly says "please."
@@Ceej_MM Well, that's not what it sounds like at the end to me. Each to their own. Good night.
She acts this well, but no one should cover a song done by Bernadette Peters.
Underwhelllllmed
better than Sarah Britghman, not as good as Webb
Good actress but this song is outside her range.
Good actress?!?!
dohaperson1 I think this song is more about the emotions that are being shown.
Hearing test required.
There’s a reason she’s reduced to advertising bingo websites, lotto and working on provincial radio lol
Got she is terrible!!
Lee.Meads ex wife has a great voice.Sarah Brightman covered this song and I like her verison better than this verison by Denise.
Too stagey and forced for me.
