The most underrated character of BB has to be hands down the incredible Cinematography. They should of won more awards there. It really is very impressive.
Chris Virtue I thought the cinematography in BCS was almost amateur in comparison to BB. It looks lower budget and more “video like” to me. BB looks more like a movie and BCS looks more like a TV show to me but to each their own.
I have buddies that wont watch it cause its so slow and they keep holding it to breaking bad standards. They seem to forget that breaking bad started off slow and then spiraled from there.
Hilariously enough, “Fly”, which I agree is one of the best episodes of Breaking Bad, was directed and creatively controlled by Rian Johnson- the guy that the whole internet would despise a few years later on for making Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.
I love season 1. The episode that Walt goes to his former business partner’s birthday is awesome. And the intervention scene is one of the show’s best.
Fly is not the only episode where you get to immerse yourself in one place. The other episode is in fact, my favorite episode in the series, Season 2's "4 Days Out". It's the one where Jesse and Walt have to cook in the RV for 4 days straight to make one huge haul. It takes place pretty much fully in the RV and the surrounding wilderness and it's such an important character development episode for both Walt and Jesse, as well as their budding relationship.
one of my favorite moments is when walt is rushing home scared and looking for the money so he could disappear but his wife tells him she gave it to her boss... and walt screams wildly and then burst in laughter ... that was fking scary lol
I've seen my father react exactly the same way several times, it's not a ha ha funny laugh, it's a psychotic i almost died kind of laugh....WAY SCARY IN REAL LIFE!!!!
I finished Breaking Bad today, and was absolutely crushed watching Hank die. Legit, my face looked similar to Walt's face when it happened lol. Amazing show.
Michael Dunn I watch it every year in January and I’ve had the same experience. I used to hate Skyler and Marie and now I can understand and empathize with them so much more; it devastates me how much I grow everytime to hate Walt even more. such a great show that every rewatch changes perspective and reaction.
The fly episode really feels like a fever dream or a late afternoon at school with ur friends before summer break. It’s a really uncanny but cozy feeling
There was also a "fly" episode in Malcolm in the Middle, where Bryan Cranston has an intense battle with a fly aswell. I'm curious if that link was intentional or just a coincidence.
9:56 "His devotion to his family never ceases." I gotta disagree here. There's a scene in Season 5 where Walter admits that somewhere down the line, it became more about making money than providing for his family. I think of it this way: Walter White loved his family, and Heisenberg loved being a drug lord.
El Camino almost feels like a fanfic, or something produced by other people than the original crew. Which is ironic since it's mostly the same and indeed was written / directed by Vince himself. But that goes to show you that, as he himself admits sometimes, the show's success depended on much more than his own genius. There were many things they honestly could have done way better and I choose to look at El Camino as a separate and unnecessary entity they gave the hardcore fans to have fun with if they wanted.
The Fly is my favourite for completely different reasons. It is a microcosm of the series' pivotal relationship. It also is very comtemplative episode, as the fly represents Walter's guilt over how his life is spiralling out of control,al and the hurt he had caused for everyone else, especially Jesse. With my favourite part of the episode being how at the end of the monologue, he realizes how he cannot contain the damage of his actions and says to give up on the fly and says "It's all contaminated". Meaning his he can't revert to his peacefull life and that there will even more victims of him breaking bad.
WW was bad from the beginning. If his goal was to provide for his family, he would've accepted the offer from Gretchen and Elliott. But his true goal was pride. And revenge. The last thing he confessed to Skyler was: "I did it for myself". One of the best show ever.
Just finished BrBa yesterday after a 2 week binge. After watching that much, that fast, the withdrawal and acceptance that its over hits hard for a little while. You do have to keep reminding yourself it's just a show. Never has any show, for me, had this impactful of a conclusion/finale. The show definitely defines perfection. Can't believe I waited this long to see it.
Hank was a depiction of PTSD. It doesn't absolve him of all his actions but many of his traumatic breaking points came as a result of Walt's criminal activities. His life was constantly at risk. He watched his coworkers get literally blown into pieces. It's easy to get frustrated by his rage but by the point in the show he's out of control he's barely sane. By the end of the show he gets his shit together and him and Marie redeem themselves in a big way. His story is almost a redemption arc.
I think it started with him killing Tucco. Even though he did what he had to, It tore him apart and everyone kept calling him a hero, which made him feel worse. Then, as you mentioned, the explosion killing and severely injuring his colleagues which wasn't long after, added up obviously took it's toll on his mental health
ALMOST a redemption arc... Too bad he was killed, mid-sentence. But I agree. From the time he killed Tuco, was almost hit by the twins, worked in promotion, he definitely was breaking apart, but had his resolve ready after discovering Heisenberg...
When you watch Better Call Saul, a rewatch of Breaking Bad truly makes him feel like the center of the entire universe and the true protagonist of the whole thing.
Hank is actually my favorite Character in the Series. He is yhe only character who is Entirely True to His/Herself. The Scene where he punches Walt after he finds out about his Identity proves that
By the same token I could say YOU might have some issues with fatherhood, being so overly judgmental of a guy you only know from videos. Why else would you make such wild assumptions...
idk fucking vile things happen to kids in the show, it's worth a mention paternal or not - and i think his point is dead on, the kids are the only real innocent characters
"He says kids are the only innocent characters in a drug market drama, definitely means James is a terrible dad" Also normal parents feel guilty about stuff you wouldn't even think about. If you think you're a perfect parent, you are more likely to justify and continue doing terrible things and blame everyone else.
The fly thing is a metaphor, reflecting how Walt tries to "decontaminate" his situation (mostly by eliminating people who might be a threat). Then if you remember the end of the episode, there's another fly in the lab, signifying that Walt can't keep up and truly decontaminate.
They're still filming it though so you'll have to wait for it. You might want to wait until it's over to watch it. They started shooting season 4 in January.
I just finished the show, I broke down in tears twice during the finale... all thanks to this video. I wouldn't have given the show a chance if it weren't for this, I know the chances of james actually seeing this comment are incredibly low lol but on the 0.0001% chance that he does, thank you james
I have seen so many sad shows movies and even anime , like ones that are supposed to make you cry and feel sad yet I never felt that much. Yet I was crying in the final sequence
Most shows I've watched in their entirety have definite shifts in quality between seasons. I have a feeling Better Call Saul is gonna be on my list once it's finished, too. Vince Gilligan just knows how to do it right.
You’re going to love El Camino. It gives Jesse a more proper conclusion for his arc and it’s so well done. It’s not quite on the level of BB or even BCS but it is very good.
Better Call Saul has characters you can root for, so the drama actually works. Bob Odenkirk's performances are unforgettable, and I've watched him for twenty years. It's like comparing Sushi Saito to Benihana.
this is the only show that managed to make me root for a different character almost every episode. Usually I find someone I like and stick to them but breaking bad didnt let me and i love it

Hank completed his character arc. From the beginning he wanted to be the one to arrest Heisenberg and he did it.
Uh no he did not
@@ericfelds6291 he did
The most underrated character of BB has to be hands down the incredible Cinematography. They should of won more awards there. It really is very impressive.
my favorite scenes where the timelapses.
Mr. robots is better.
Should of or should have?
You should see BCS. There are some incredible shots and symbolism there in the cinematography as well.
Chris Virtue I thought the cinematography in BCS was almost amateur in comparison to BB. It looks lower budget and more “video like” to me. BB looks more like a movie and BCS looks more like a TV show to me but to each their own.
If you liked Mike in breaking bad, wait till you see him in better call Saul!
So sad it didn't get NEARLY the viewership of Breaking Bad. It's just as good!
I have buddies that wont watch it cause its so slow and they keep holding it to breaking bad standards. They seem to forget that breaking bad started off slow and then spiraled from there.
sinformant Best part of the show is Mike’s storyline..
Joel Pinnell yes it is"if I need a gun ill take one of his"
sinformant favorite bcs character by far XD
Hilariously enough, “Fly”, which I agree is one of the best episodes of Breaking Bad, was directed and creatively controlled by Rian Johnson- the guy that the whole internet would despise a few years later on for making Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.
I love season 1. The episode that Walt goes to his former business partner’s birthday is awesome. And the intervention scene is one of the show’s best.
James they are not rocks there minerals

Fly is not the only episode where you get to immerse yourself in one place. The other episode is in fact, my favorite episode in the series, Season 2's "4 Days Out". It's the one where Jesse and Walt have to cook in the RV for 4 days straight to make one huge haul. It takes place pretty much fully in the RV and the surrounding wilderness and it's such an important character development episode for both Walt and Jesse, as well as their budding relationship.
YTWeewer true
Yes! That’s a perfect example, and it does it better than the fly episode.
That's two places. The RV and the wilderness.
The fly is inside the lab only
Lol the fly episode:
“You didn’t happen to try any of our product did you?”
Jessie!! He’s the only one with a huge heart. I always feel for him
This show minerals.
James Rennie theyre rocks marie
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
one of my favorite moments is when walt is rushing home scared and looking for the money so he could disappear but his wife tells him she gave it to her boss... and walt screams wildly and then burst in laughter ... that was fking scary lol
I've seen my father react exactly the same way several times, it's not a ha ha funny laugh, it's a psychotic i almost died kind of laugh....WAY SCARY IN REAL LIFE!!!!
@@jennninja9986 yeah thats why i said scary it looks like a mental breakdown
Makes me wonder what Cranston used as motivation, seems like he's been there before, it's extremely authentic!
@@jennninja9986 i dont know, it seemed so damn real, he's just an amazing actor.
it's also scary how awesome of an actor he is. definetely underrated.
I finished Breaking Bad today, and was absolutely crushed watching Hank die. Legit, my face looked similar to Walt's face when it happened lol. Amazing show.

I re-watch Breaking Bad every year or two. The more I watch it the less I like Walt.
Michael Dunn I watch it every year in January and I’ve had the same experience. I used to hate Skyler and Marie and now I can understand and empathize with them so much more; it devastates me how much I grow everytime to hate Walt even more. such a great show that every rewatch changes perspective and reaction.
Michael Dunn I hated him by the end
That’s cuz Jesse is the best character the Bitch catchphrase is something that I use on a regular basis
Jesse is my favorite in the series.
I loved him until the very last moment
So glad you went back to watching it and loved it. I've lost friends who never went back. hehe.
Huh, you here?
yo what?
Your conent is amazing
Like I said, you're slowly turning into that guy without a mustache
The fly episode really feels like a fever dream or a late afternoon at school with ur friends before summer break. It’s a really uncanny but cozy feeling
There was also a "fly" episode in Malcolm in the Middle, where Bryan Cranston has an intense battle with a fly aswell. I'm curious if that link was intentional or just a coincidence.
yeah, I was reminded of that too even I saw the fly episode. I went to go look for the Malcolm in the middle episode but I couldn't find it.
M vG it’s a bee not a fly
Man this must go all the way to the top must be a crossover illuminati confirmed
@@Marc-hk2rf unless the fly is actually Dewey's fly friend 'Tony' lol
Well Rian Johnson directed it so I can't imagine much thought was put in
This makes me wanna re-watch Breaking Bad... For the 5th time.
Adam Edwards im watching it for the 6th time now lol
I got a tiny itch these couple months to watch it again, I think this review just pushed me over the edge lol
Soon to start my 9th viewing since 2014
I usually like to wait a few years to forget a show / book before coming back to it. Good timing though, I should give it my second go around.
Think you'll go for 3rd
9:56 "His devotion to his family never ceases."
I gotta disagree here. There's a scene in Season 5 where Walter admits that somewhere down the line, it became more about making money than providing for his family. I think of it this way: Walter White loved his family, and Heisenberg loved being a drug lord.
That was in the Finale if I remember right...when Walt sneaks into Skylar’s apartment after he comes back to Albuquerque...
William Tocci Jr Different scene. Walt tells Jesse he is in the empire business when Jesse tries to convince him to take the earnings and quit.
@@zeuscoleback he became more heisenberg than walter
@@beckstar78 Walter died in the last season. Heisenburg took his place.

This guy is so well spoken. This is a perfect review if there is such a thing.
I can't understand how that plot beginning is mildly interesting. I was hooked right away
Well James, looks like you are gana have to review el camino when it comes out now!!!
killjoy agreed!
Yesssssss
@@zachisofire2422 it honestly did.
@@zachisofire2422 for me it was a 6/10
El Camino almost feels like a fanfic, or something produced by other people than the original crew.
Better Call Saul review when????
When season 6 ends hopefully.
@@nftonystark5165 when?
You know a show is doing something right when you feel like your having a anxiety attack.
It was very powerful hearing him talk about his 'perfect moment to die'. That's some messed up thinking right there.

It’s definitely one of the best shows ever made if not the best. The prequel show ‘Better Call Saul’ is also brilliant if you haven’t seen that
Hank was a depiction of PTSD.
Agreed
Thank you!
ALMOST a redemption arc... Too bad he was killed, mid-sentence.
But I agree. From the time he killed Tuco, was almost hit by the twins, worked in promotion, he definitely was breaking apart, but had his resolve ready after discovering Heisenberg...
Until his find out that Walt was Heisenberg while taking a shit.
I initially rooted for walt, but as time went on he went too far and rooted for hank. Then, at the end I rooted for walt again! Amazing storytelling.
Looking cool, Joker!
@KJ HX That's disgusting.
Never cheered for Hank. Was glad when he died. But it took to long to happen.

When you watch Better Call Saul, a rewatch of Breaking Bad truly makes him feel like the center of the entire universe and the true protagonist of the whole thing.
Two of my favourite shows are Breaking Band and Avatar: The last air bender
Frrrrrrr. Avatar was the last airbender was also amazing
For me it's the trio. Breaking Bad, Clone Wars, and Avatar The Last Airbender.
Dark is great too.
Just yes
Me too
Hank is actually my favorite Character in the Series. He is yhe only character who is Entirely True to His/Herself. The Scene where he punches Walt after he finds out about his Identity proves that
Hank's death was so sad for me
My favourite character
I'm surprised about the negativity towards season 1. I thought it was incredible and was instantly hooked.
I know, Walt killing Crazy 8 was what hooked me
Can’t believe it’s been 15 years since it started. Aged so well
"The Fly" was directed by Rian Johnson, who I think really elevated that episode.
He also made Ozymandias
You can see James paternal instincts bleeding through at so many points during this video. You get the sense that he is a good father.
James looks old AF.
He's not that old seeming for his age. Unlike most his age group he doesn't seem needlessly bitter for starters. Also he looks the same
By the same token I could say YOU might have some issues with fatherhood, being so overly judgmental of a guy you only know from videos. Why else would you make such wild assumptions...
idk fucking vile things happen to kids in the show, it's worth a mention paternal or not - and i think his point is dead on, the kids are the only real innocent characters
"He says kids are the only innocent characters in a drug market drama, definitely means James is a terrible dad"
Also normal parents feel guilty about stuff you wouldn't even think about.
Gene Quist wisecrack
Chad Farrell
I think,just crack.
I don't think the metaphor is that literal.
It's a metaphor, reflecting how Vince Gilligan had one spear installment in the series and had to fill it up with an insignificant episode.
It’s also a highlight of Walt’s need for control while he’s merely a slave to Gus and the schedule.
The fly episode perfectly portrays how obsessive Walt was becoming, one of my favorites too
I didn't really hate Walt until season 5, but the finale episode was so damn satisfying such as how he fixes his mistakes.
I watched the entire thing just so I could watch the whole video.
It's the best TV show I've ever seen.
Say the show’s name.
He's like, "I don't watch really good shows because I'm too busy waisting time playing really shitty games."
Wow

They're still filming it though so you'll have to wait for it. You might want to wait until it's over to watch it. They started shooting season 4 in January.
BCS is VERY different and is pretty slow. I don't think James will like it.
Gus's death scene felt like a prank by the editing team.
My favorite character in the entire series is Walt's ego.
Oddly enough you do sound like Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk)

I just finished the show, I broke down in tears twice during the finale... all thanks to this video. I have seen so many sad shows movies and even anime , like ones that are supposed to make you cry and feel sad yet I never felt that much. Yet I was crying in the final sequence
Most shows I've watched in their entirety have definite shifts in quality between seasons. The only shows I've seen that I feel are completely great all the way through are this one, Six Feet Under, and The Sopranos. I have a feeling Better Call Saul is gonna be on my list once it's finished, too. Vince Gilligan just knows how to do it right.
Six Feet Under is so underrated.
Cant wait for Better Fuel Huell

Oiseau Rare I totslly and completely agree. Both are great though.
it's better than BB.
Forgot to mention "cow house" and the element that conducts electricity: "ahh, wire"
That was the funniest Jesse Pinkman moment
I rooted for Walt from the very beginning to the very end! Breaking Bad is absolutely untouchable! It will not be topped anytime soon.
Just like BB he fell for the trap of not giving Better Call Saul a chance...
You’re going to love El Camino. It gives Jesse a more proper conclusion for his arc and it’s so well done. It’s not quite on the level of BB or even BCS but it is very good.
Better Call Saul is slower paced than Breaking Bad. But it certainly is just as emotionally intense.
Finally someone talks about Better Call Saul ...
i love the character saul but that show is dogshit
Curtis Liddicoat that's just like.. your opinion man
Better Call Saul has characters you can root for, so the drama actually works. Bob Odenkirk's performances are unforgettable, and I've watched him for twenty years.
It's like comparing Sushi Saito to Benihana.
It's very slow but has potential. I'm ready to see what season 3 holds.
this is the only show that managed to make me root for a different character almost every episode. Usually I find someone I like and stick to them but breaking bad didnt let me and i love it
You Better Call Saul whilst Breaking Bad in the Middle.....😂🤣😆🤣😂
