Damn I’m a high school freshman too. But I can only play up to the first A above the staff. However I had to change my embouchure in 8th grade due to braces. Still, seeing how high you guys can play, I gotta start doing these range builders.
i'm an 8th grader and the highest note i can play comfortably (able to hit it every time) is E, still in the staff. i can play F most of the time, and an occasional G. i'm hoping this can help me build my range to hopefully get into wind ensemble freshman year of high school😄 (they usually don't let freshmans in)
@@jaxz9873 wow i forgot i ever made this comment! im going into my junior year now, and i did get into wind ensemble, but sophomore year instead of freshman. i can hit a C reasonably consistently, and sometimes a D on a good chop day. im a lead trumpet (and section leader) in marching band this year, so hitting the high notes is pretty important! thanks for replying, i can sometimes forget how far i've come🙂
My range has been kind of stuck at C# above the staff pretty comfortably and my goal before ending sophomore year is to play D and E above the staff comfortably. I've hit a D a few times and E that was decent like once so I hope to get better
My band never had high parts for trumpets, so I never practiced high notes much. Now as a high schooler, we have to hit a high F every so often, so I've been practicing my range like crazy. I can now play a high B flat relatively comfortably and I can sometimes reach up to a high C.
I wanna play the E from the solo in Cave of Mind from Howl’s Moving Castle, with good control since it’s so soft and gentle… it’s not very high but I’m just beginning so it’s hard to keep it steady especially so softly - thanks for the videos!
Currently struggling with high B, but i can hit a high C if i wanted to, its just not comfortable yet. Currently a sophmore in high school, hope to at least play a high Eb confortably by senior year
I was in the exact same situation a bit ago. If the notes don't sound pure and natural try do chicowitz air flow studies. Make sure that the notes are the same volume all the way up and down. Also, try to be relaxed when you're playing higher and if you're pinching they're going to be bad. If you're putting too much pressure on your lips try to use some of your abdominal muscles to support your air stream. Think of it as like supercharging your air. When you breath try to collect all of your air down and fill your stomach almost with air and you know you're doing this right when you take a breath you don't go up meaning your shoulder and chest don't move.
I just made lead trumpet as a freshman in jazz 2. Jazz 1 is the better band but I still did better than most sophomores and I need to get my range up. I started noticing results within a week and these 3 videos are helping me a lot. My highest note (without changing my embouchure and squeaking it out) is a c above the staff. I want to get an octave higher by the end of the school year. I struggle with pushing the trumpet in my face, pinching my teeth, and blocking up my air in the throat. I want to know how I can improve and thanks for these great videos!
I'm a second generation William Adam student at Appalachian State! I'm one of the lead players here and on average I can only play a G above high C. Please get in contact with me if you're coming to Adam Fest!
Im a senior in high school and do lead and earlier this year I tore the muscle that goes around the lip from overlaying. I had a new embosure to compensate for the injury with 25% upper lip and 75% lower. I didnt play much and did let myself recover. However I got my first lesson and was told to switch to a 50/50 embochure. With the old one and before my injury I could play a double g now I'm only getting back to high c. It's annoying buy I'll get back up there with the help of my teacher and plenty of practice. I hope these excersizes will help get my range back as well.
@@trumpet_guy I started an octave bellow where I was before and I already have gone up three notes in a month so I'll get there and eventually go further.
im late but im able to hit the Eb, but even a semitone up and everything goes out the window. Im working on my technique now since school is out and i have free time. hopefully by the beginning of senior year i can hit A comfortably
Something that might help (it helped me) the trumpet Arban's book, it has a lot of trumpet exercises for double and triple tounging. Some people say tu-koo but when it's higher notes your trying to double tounge you might find that the syllabal dig-a is helpful. Just take it slowly and do exercises up the scale:)
I am in 9th grade and the highest note I ever hit was triple-A (A 6). I want to be a music major in college at Slippery Rock University and my goal is to hit a high C 7 on trumpet. I will use the information from these 3 videos and put it to good use! Thank You SO MUCH!!!!
honestly me being a freshman in hight school i could hit around a b above the staff but these exercises have helped me to improve to even higher which imgrateful for
Alright, ima ask for some help real quick if ya dont mind.. How do you get your face to *not* be red when playing for long bits or high notes? The veins in my neck will puff out, my neck itself will strain, my face gets all red due to the pressure (I think), and when I play anything higher than a high E (probably not as high as you're thinking) I will tend to feel a headache-type pain (maybe a static if you can imagine that) in the center of my brain. Is this common and what am I doing wrong? My band teacher (who has played trumpet for 21 years now) keeps telling me to put more air to hit high notes, but that creates that pain in my head that genuinely hurts. Sometimes makes me see black and white and mostly makes me sleepy, drowsy, and dizzy after playing. Thank you for taking time to read this far, just wanted to know for about a year now why this happens to me and no one else.
Probably too much air pressure inside of your body due to your lips not knowing how to respond to airflow. Go back to the easiest note(s) you can play and learn to sigh your air out instead of pushing your air out. When you sound the trumpet, your chops and body should feel like your vocal chords and body when you talk to someone next to you. No offense to your band teacher, but if his advice isn't working the way you are interpreting it, you kinda have to scrap it. Don't allow yourself to play in a way that gives you headaches and fuzziness, it's not healthy. Good luck
Ur airflow and muscle pressure is off balanced. Its like trying to hold off water in a hose with just a peice of paper, the paper being your facial muscle
Might be a bit late, but for me, I use more of my abdominal muscles to take the pressure away. That fixed it for me and once you break the habit it was a game-changer.
I'm a stroke surviver, my playable range was G over high C, but now stuck on high D... Taking it easy and to the young players please don't over due it.. Good luck to all.
@@degobeats425 Not really, about 2-3 years ago I got to where my double g was pretty comfortable, but I couldn't play up there for long at all. Anytime I would practice near that in less than 10 minutes I would be done.
i used to be able to play to a D above the staff, but then i made the decision to change my embouchre.... right now i can barely hit an F on top the staff, heck even the C on the staff is hard. I'm trying to get my range back to what it was before and then increase it even further so i can play notes off the sheet!
I’m in 10th grade and my highest note is a double A above the staff and my lowest note is a triple Bb I have been playing since 5th grade and it help that’s my dad is also my band director and is is a trumpet play as well
I have played trumpet for 67 years playing orchestral, jazz, and small group genres. I have fought for years to play trumpet using a upper plate. I was in a car accident and had my upper teeth shattered. have tried everything to get all my playing range back but I can't seem to extend my range past high C. I like the exercises you have given but I don't think it will assist with extending my range. I am considering having a full dental implant procedure. Won't cost much more than a good used car. Have you known of anyone who is playing that has dental implants and gained upper range.
It depends on how you are changing your embouchure: if you are having to stop playing before you play, drop the habit, if it is just a slight drop to the bottom lip while playing, it's natural.
You might have a falsetto on E. It’s very common for trumpet players because its fingered open, which means it’s a base note for us. You just have to try different things while playing, such as sliding your trumpet a little down while playing or just give it more air while trying not to jump above or strain yourself.
In this second video clip. You may not know it but you do hold the first 8th note a little longer than the other three. Ok I know this is technical and does not take away from the purpose of the exercise. However it is good to be exact when you demonstrate for the public. Also when a musician gets to be more advanced it DOES make a difference in note length. 😀

If you want to see my high register playing, check out my RUclips channel ruclips.net/channel/UC0zqaQGuJmVSwEuz5h7fydQ Just some tips when playing in that high of a register, to become more efficient :) *1. To gain range you need to play in the upper register more often (It's probably going to have to be a daily thing in your practice routine, just make sure that it isn't the only thing you practice however) *2. Just go slowly by half-steps 3. Octave glisses 4. Watching out for excessive mouthpiece pressure in the upper register 5. Your mouthpiece placement on the chops 6. Fast/ efficient air *7. Relaxing the throat - not forcing the note out, letting the air do the job for you 8. Starting articulation of the note you are trying to learn 9. Hearing the note in your head before you play it 10. Resting the chops (After practicing all throughout the week I usually give myself Saturday & Sunday off) 11. Having confidence *12. Tightening the core - Breathing from the abdomen "Flexing your core"
That's exactly what ended up fixing my range last year. I couldn't ever get my high a b c to sound natural and easy even though I could get up to them pretty easily Also playing the notes the same volume all the way up helped too.

I can hit double fs and Gs on a good day but im trying to work to As Bs and even if im lucky the Double C
I can currently play A above high C and want to be able to play double C by the time I’m in college.

I want to try to hit high A
Highest note I’ve played is a high B and I’m a freshman. I want to at least play a high E or F easily
My goal is to hit a high F, i can currently play a high D 4th octave
High C is my average comfortable zone. I have hit a D above that and even E above that. But less often
I’m about to hit a double g and I’m a freshmen but my double g isn’t clean
I’m a freshman in high school and can play a double F, my goal is it play a double C by the end of my sophomore year
I play the trumpet and my highest note of all time was high high c
I am in year 6 (I’m 11 and British so you don’t get confused) and I started playing trumpet in year 4. On a good day, my tone is quite good and I can just barely hit a high C. I’m hoping to get up to a high A with these exercises and improve my volume (I’m the quietest trumpeter in my band) in the process. Thanks for your help!
But the highest note i hit constantly is prolly a double d and E
I can play a high E on good days but like high Ds anytime
Highest currently is probably g inconsistently. My band teacher basically failed us ngl I’m senior and I’ve been in band since 6th grade, past 7th grade it was just “figure it out” it’s not just me also it’s like the whole band.
Highest I can squeak is D. I want to get to high G above the staff

Just some tips when playing in that high of a register, to become more efficient :)
