Can I just say I love that for the first time in ages, he's wearing the poofy jacket right instead of the slimmed down version the Dissidia games keep giving him. I really liked his introduction, he actually came across as interesting and kinda cool, like he should from FF8. I never got the vibe of a military soldier in FF8 while playing, but this definitely painted with the salute, music, and the way he spoke with short and quick responses identifying the situations at hand. Well done.
While I definitely prefer the poofy jacket over the slimmer one, I'm more happy everything else about his design is on point. The leg sash, waist fur, the overly long v-neck shirt and messy waist belts always cluttered Squalls simple design far more than the slim jacket. the fact they also remembered to make his jacket poofy is icing on the cake.
@@15Linkmaster I wanted to say this too, slim jacket is fine IMO but god I hate the extra fur, belt and sash they added around his waist; that’s the biggest throw off. They could keep the v-neck and slim jacket and I’d see it as modernizing instead of screwing around with.
@@reloadpsi I think the only thing that was notably translated differently with him is that he gives several other curt and dismissive responses (like "Well excuse me/get off my back/Oh geez/Annoying/Who cares/etc") in Japanese instead of the typical "whatever" he uses in the English version. Hardly "badly translated" and I personally found the usage of "whatever" to be much more amusing and humorous.

That "I haven't taken my exams yet." was very random it should've been the least of his concerns coming to Palamecia lol reminds me years ago when I picked the hotdog supplies option when Squall was giving instructions while Balamb Garden was being attacked by Galbadian Garden 😂 Edit: I wanted to smack whoever agreed to do that terrible design of Squall in Dissidia. This is what his design should've been like in that game. I'd take OG Squall any day everyday than that horrible one smh

Puandari I’d blame time compression. Because of time compression, FF8 takes place in a never-ending loop, so Squall was probably taken whenever, and his memories from all throughout the game got scrambled.
Gilgamesh (in the first Battle Tower event involving him) pronounces "Balamb" the way I do, Squall and Quistis (in WoFF) pronounce "Balamb" pretty differently from how I say it. 6:32 Dissidia NT reference?! But Zidane is Wol here, and he wasn't THAT annoyed
I don't think it was meant to be a reference. Squall is far away from home, and he is not exactly the type of person who starts bonding with people the first chance he gets. He litereally just met Wol and co. and he has reservations for now.
keep in mind the events of FF8 event takes place during the moment when Squall was still traveling through the Void/Compressed Time before Rinoa found him.
@MagicalConch89 I'd honestly say it should be somewhere between Cloud and Noctis but slightly deeper and with an attitude. This dude sounds like a 40yr old when Squall is only 17 xD

He definitely gives him a much deeper and mature voice for a 17yr old. If they ever remake FF8.... I want someone new for him and Rinoa (her eng dub sounds awful in Dissidia NT)
