The original in 1982 was seen by most people as just a weird movie with some "cutting edge graphics". The only reason we ended up getting Legacy is because TRON gradually built a cult following of nerds who loved it. And they didn't only love it because it was "nerdy". The themes of "Users vs. Programs" and "Open Source vs. Proprietary Design" resonated more and more over time as companies like Microsoft, IBM, etc. grew bigger. Legacy was received somewhat divisively by fans of the original. Some of them loved where it went, some of them thought it was just a soulless cash grab. I landed closer to the former camp, and I have high hopes for TRON: Ares. TRON's themes have only grown more and more relevant to society, and this point in the story (when the Grid clashes with the "real world") has the potential for some very important commentary. And not just about "internet/tech related stuff". People are questioning this capitalist "Grid" we've built for ourselves in the real world. It's not just the "programs" who are corrupt, and we might not be able to fix it with "patches". The whole system needs to be re-imagined.

but clu didnt rebel. he was the image of the man he is and clu has the mind set of the early flynn. as flynn got older he realised things and chaged some stuff while clu, true to his programming wasn't seeing it to be perfect. Is this correct???
You are correct, CLU believed that only programs created by users can be perfect and ISOs being anomalies needed to be removed. Flynn being a god feels responsible for creating them and doesn't want to destroy them for the crime of simply existing. Eventually CLU lets his jealousy well up as he believing himself the perfect program having been created by the grid's God himself, organizes a coup and frames ISOs for a blowing up a section of a grid creating extreme panic and fear against ISOs.
@@bobjones4762 It isnt like CLU is jelaous of the ISOs but more that he doesnt fully undertanding why they are so special, he is a program and he is limited to his initial programing this could be easly fixed if Flynn bother to make a upgrade for CLU which he never did for some strange reason. Heck even in TRON 2.0 Flynn wanted Alan to upgrade TRON so he could detect illegal user tampering and access from any kind of server and this resulted in the infamous "Legacy Code of TRON" which could had made TRON even more powerful and could gave him more control over the system and access over other functions, why Flynn didnt made something that made CLU more aware and understand why the ISOs are so special beats me. He thinks programs or "Basics" are perfect because they were the first ones yes made by Flynn but its more because he cant go against his basic programing and its to "help to make the perfect system" so in a way yes is Flynn's fault because he didnt gave him more detailed parameters about what is "being perfect" and when something is perfect and when is not.
@gunster10 Remember the bar scene? They're drinking energy, which programs need to sustain themselves. All Kevin did was change the form into something more solid, and then reskin it into food recognizible to Users. He's cool like that. By a similar method, Kevin recreated all of those classic works on the bookshelf that Quorra read.
Tron Nerd here :), This movie is really close to my heart in a weird way. My dad passed away few years ago and in the movie when Sam meets his dad, it made me feel so great that he met his dad again. One of the most underrated movie of all time. And its soundtracks are frkn amazing. One of my small secret wish it to play End of Line soundtrack at the keynote which I will deliver at some time soon

To me, Tron Legacy remains one of the most underappreciated films in the past 20 years. The visuals, music and sound were groundbreaking and the story was solid. I think the problems were two-fold. For hard core fans of the original, they didn't feel like Legacy moved the story forward enough, particularly in the areas of what digital technology means to our world today. I get that. On the other hand, the problem was that for MOST film-goers, this was a new world to them. It was a sequel to a film 20 years old which they had never seen. Disney was stuck between these two camps trying to find something that would seem new, vibrant, and unique, yet would also introduce new viewers to the world of Tron and the grid. Ultimately, many hardcore fans felt like it wasn't progressive enough, while the many more potential viewers were overwhelmed or detached from a world that was unknown and 20 years in the past. This conundrum was evident in the marketing. Disney didn't want to alienate the hardcore fans and so they didn't really sell the movie to the uninitiated either- as a film that could wholly stand on its own without having seen it's predecessor. They tried to appease both audiences. Despite all that, I firmly believe that what we got was a top-notch film, easily a 9/10+ in my opinion, because if you didn't burden yourself with any expectations from the original, what resulted was a great set up and introduction to what could have been a strong franchise. I love the original Tron. Unfortunately, it almost seems that if this film had come out when it did without the weight of being tied to a movie from 20 years ago, it would have been embraced much stronger.
Maybe but TRON introduced concept of living beings transferred to computers. Possibilities are limitless cuz' internet and cloud are on the hype as the third movie was to bring computer programs into reality as suggested at the end of Legacy. We've been left with a Legacy to take on so it's not dead as long as computers exists, smartphones could play a role as well so TRON is linked for eternity to the Users...
Amazing to me how many of us fans loved this film and want another one but Tron is just not disney enough. The original shaped my life back in 1982 when I was 10 years old and my tech savvy mom sat next to me and taught me all about tech back then. After that I learned programming and automated controls and it was a testament to how important the experience that seeing tron was to me. In fact I think that is the very point of Disney.
Great film I really absorbed myself into the Tron film. You can see the early stages of face technology but like the original Tron, it dare to try new things and look how much it's evolved! It seems to me the people who really enjoyed this film are the ones who enjoyed the original .

In my opinion Tron was AMAZING! Some people got mad at the death of the dad at the end, but I didn't (maybe because I knew he was going to die so I didn't attach myself to the character). Now I think Disney should (if they haven't said so) make a third movie, a few reasons for this: Tron falls into the digital water and turns blue again, the tron world (forgot what it's called) needs to be worked on some more, and well I have a feeling that Mr. Flinn isn't actually dead. Just a feeling I got.
