Honda Shadow 1100 Cobra Drag Pipes - Baffles vs Straight (SOUND/TONE)

- Bike picked up a ton of torque straight piped -
just a little comparison video of the cobra slash cut drag pipes with the supplied baffles vs straight pipes. quite a sound difference. - Авто/Мото
To everyone commenting, I did rejet the carb and adjust mix screws - I actually did a video on how to do it. Did the pipes and carb at same time. When chrome pipes aren’t right, the whole exhaust is blue - chrome on the 90s is normal.
Stock exhaust has chrome covers, that’s why they aren’t blue 👍
ThunderHead289 what saddlebags are those?
Link to the jetting video bud
Link to the jetting video bud
But you never put a link for the pipes
I can’t find the video of the carb rebuild / jet
took mine out a couple years ago. love it. the neighbors hate it.. I don't care..
Fuck em
I just got a 1995 model Shadow with those same pipes and by the sound of it there are no baffles in there. I love the sound. I just have to trust that the previous owner got the carb rejeted and everything adjusted. The bike feels pretty dialed and nice.
It's best to richen up the idle screw as well
I imagine they’re just wide open straight pipes with no dampening or muffling at all. Sounds great without the baffles
Thank you for this video! it was just what I was looking for.
Hello thunderhead. I hav an 04 vt1100 with the same tail light setup and turn signals. Im having a hard time finding saddlebags that fit due to the turn signals. Yours look Nice and fit good. Where did u get those?? Wut r they called??
I have Victory bags on my 04 VT1100c, with bolt on setup. Love them.
Check with Viking Bags. They have a good variety.
What saddlebags did you use? All the ones I find the rear blinkers are in the way.
I love the deep sound of them
Do you have a video of adding the exaust to this. Just bought the same bike
But it's too quite for me sny suggestions?
i had bought mine with out the baffles in it, i think i have cobras on mine, heat shields are non existent on my bike though... but mine does sound more like how a harley would, not sure if its because its the ACE or if its because it goes from the skinny pipe to a big one
The ace and the aero have single pin crank just like Harleys that's why Honda was sued for that sound! The Sabra and the shadow have dual p i n n e d cranks which make them smoother and actually have 10 more horsepower!
Uncle Luke you are man just bought the same bike do you still have the stock pipes
I cut about 6 inches off some 2 in harley baffles and installed them in in my cobra pipes on my 97 1100ACE and it sounds perfect. My buddy was riding lead and he could hear me over his Harley. Really made a awesome sound for me but my pipes measure 2⅛in so it doesn't have alot of back pressure
Looks to me like you are running it way too lean. Your pipes are blued which means you're running hot, maybe too hot and could burn a hole in the pistons over time. I suggest turning the mixture screws out some or even rejetting the carbs for those pipes.
telling thunderhead289 how his engine/carb is performing is the funniest shit i've ever seen
That’s the first thing I noticed also and thought the same !
what luggage rack is that? I need one for my 92 shadow 1100cc
@ThunderHead289
wow! what a difference you are a smart guy! the motor I am doing with my son is coming out pretty good by theway keep up the videos I enjoy them
For some reason it didn't sound that great with the baffles in, and worse with them out. I guess if you're going for loud, you got there.
As one guy commented a few months ago, you have lots of bluing on your pipes near the heads. That usually indicates running lean, but it's pretty hard to watch a video and make an accurate assessment.
Curious, did your performance improve? Or get worse? A couple buddies of mine removed their baffles (Harleys) and even with power commanders adjusted, they lost some performance as far as quarter mile times, top speed, and a slight loss of fuel economy. One of them put his baffles back in, the other prefers loud over performance.
I did a 3 part series on this where i rejetted before i did the exhaust - you cant do one without the other and expect performance. In my case it felt like it gained 1/4 more power over what it had before.
I love the no baffle sound
That old Ford tho,,,, damn. Loud pipes do help. Best safety feature is your brain, if used properly, you live...!
Had a 750 with V&H pipes which sounded similar to this vid. Baffles in doesn't sound great and no baffles sounds hollow once you open the throttle up. Cutting the baffle in half and then drilling some holes in the face of the baffle sounds great. Did this to my cb500k as well. I've a vid up here of the 750 shadow with this set up, but the vid of the cb500k is no muffler.
Might try this on mine.
Couldn’t wait. I got home from work and cut the baffles in half and drilled 4 holes in each on the back. It sounds good without being obnoxious and not having baffles at all.
@@Fobes Awesome dude! Glad it works for ya. 🤘I started with four holes too but ended up drilling more until I got the tone and volume I wanted.
Wanting to put my baffles back in my pipes, do I need to rejet?
Yes, for sure unfortunately - regrettably on these it's not what I would call "easy" to get to
Where can I get drag pipes for a 1987 Honda shadow vt700?
What size jets did you put in the bike
Nice sound..awesome bike
what size of jets you put in the carburetor
Does it run high rpm for hwy speeds 75-80mph?
Shadow Spirits are geared higher than the ace Sabra and a e r o! They turn 2750 at 60 miles an hour compared to 3,000 with the other three!
Sounds amazing !!!
I keep winding up here man 🤣. The drilled baffles on my stock 750 exhaust sounds pretty nice, but I've been fighting the urge to build my own exhaust...
do you know why it was still lean after the jet kit
I thought the bike sounded really good after u removed the baffles, someone got a nice bike
Im pickin one of these up tomorrow for 300 bucks, thing aint run but hopefully I’ll get it running soon these things sound fuckin dope it’d make a sick first bike
If you don`t change the jets in the carbs will it run too lean or too rich? i would think it would need to be richened up a bit cause of no back preasure overheating the top end.
You do, type in thunderhead289 Honda 1100. I walk through changing the jets
Ah...Ford fairlane 500...brings back childhood memories :)
What size is the baffles
My cobra exhaust doest have the screws any suggestions
Spot welds???
What year is it?
Has this bike been a reliable runner for You?
Does it go faster more torque or just sounds better
Anyone know a link to these pipes
Are these ''Spirit 1100'' models are smaller in shape or frame than 750?
they are larger
Which one are larger?
✋Attention 🖖With baffle new school men🤛🏼 Without baffle Old school men 😎
is that 2" pipes?
Loud pipes help, but they do not save lives. Learning to be a good rider, practicing your riding skills saves your life. Nice sound on the bike though.
Wow that actually does sound good. Neighbors would kill me though
First off loud pipes dont save lives. 2nd sounds amazing been thinking about getting these
I have a 98 honda vt1100 had Vance and hines found stock exhaust put it on now I have to honk my horn for the idiots try to take my lane over
@@louisvilaros9066 I have had loud exhausts on every bike and idiots still cut me off doesnt change. it doesnt save lives you might get occasional person who can hear you so it helps but doesnt mean its always going to helps so the whole loud pipes save lives bs isnt true its probably affective like 25% of the time
@@MrTommyLove i have personally almost hit a few bikers in my truck switching lanes on highway because i couldn't hear them or see if blind spot. Bone stock quiet.
My bike is obnoxiously loud, when i split lanes they part for me before i get up there and i give the thank you nod.
Getting cut off by idiots comes from alot of factors, not giving yourself distance, lane position, etc....biker 101.
But if your pipes are loud they will hear you 100% of time, especially in slower city travel, under 40mph.
any low end torque loss?
Oddly enough, it gained power everywhere in the power band
ThunderHead289 oh wow wasn't expecting that
@@ThunderHead289 what size jets are you running
Is an 86 Shadow 1100 fast?
kieran williams are Bonita fish big?
no lol. wrong kind of bike. my '95 tops out at around 105
80s models are way faster than 90s and up . They had more compression and higher lift cam
Jake 6401 mine at 110 lol
Top out around 110-115. They are built for comfort not speed.
I think part of the blue everyone is seeing is the reflection of the blue car in your driveway, now guys I'm not saying it's all of the blue but some of the blue
Never heard of an offset screwdriver bro?
That shit sound fking great.
Loud pipes save time! Drivers get the hell outta the way when they hear loud pipes. I dont like loud pipes dont have them on the bike im using but boy do they split cars like Moses
They would sound ok with the baffles, if they was wrapped. Sound really nice without them however.
sounds like the old farm tractor .
John Deere!
Dude, your pipes are way too hot. Too much fuel i think. May want to get that tuned. Thise pipes are very blue at the exhaust ports. Just an obsevation
Well, search my name and Honda 1100. I jetted it to where it's supposed to be. That's just what happens when your actual pipe is chromed. If it was jetted wrong, which lean is hot, it would be blue way way past the 90s on it!!!!
Ok i got ya. It just looks like it been pretty hot.nice bike by the way
+blah blah yeah, the unfortanality of buying cheap exhaust. - it's thin. Most bikes have only chrome covers, which don't turn blue.
+blah blah and thanks, it was a good bike. Sad to see it go last year.
If the pipes were hot it would be from a lean condition, too little fuel, not too much.
I'll bet when you were a kid you attached playing cards onto your bicycle in the spokes so that it would sound cool. Besides annoying neighbors and car drivers (as if we need more pissed off cagers), loud pipes fatigue the rider on longer rides. I prefer my stock pipes, thank you. I can still hear birds chirping as I cruise along on country roads. I do however need to either rev the engine or beep the horn when approaching bicyclists, otherwise they sometimes don't hear me coming. I am also a firm believer that the Honda engineers did a great job of designing the stock pipes to work in concert with the engine and fueling in order to maximize long term reliability.
I would have never changed them if I didn’t have to lay the bike down to miss a driver that didn’t see me.
Stock exhaust was obliterated completely unfortunately.
Have it hanging on the wall as a momento - very expensive to replace.
I basically just redid the exhaust as cheap as possible and sold it.
You guanna burn that saddle bag on the rear exhaust pipe. I had to remove mine. Just sayin
Gold is ok, blue means too lean. Been riding since 73 so I know a thing or 2.
Sounds better without then
It sounds a lot better m8 ; )
Baby blue by gene vincent
someone left the choke on
sounds like a motorboat
Please buy some tools
Running way too lean
How did you come to that conclusion
ThunderHead289 the pipes should not be that blue at the exhaust ports I have a 97 with drag pipes and they were never blued it has 41000 miles
+CRFHONDARIDER100 well I can tell you this much - I jetted and adjusted for no baffles and had to put them in immediately because the lady hated it - she's the boss. Anyway, it would have been rich if anything.
kurwa jak ja nie nawidze ameryknskich testow motorow i aut
No, that's how a John Deere should sound. The VT1100 sound like crap with loud pipes.
Painter D that they do. I sold mine because I couldnt take it anymore

Throw them baffles in the trash
Those bikes sound like shit no matter what exhaust you have on them...... like a riding mower with straight pipe.....
What size jets you running?
