Nice review. Almost every test rider raves about these incredible e motorbikes. Its hard to believe Zero dont really have any competitors including the Japanese bike builders.
Thomas, really appreciate your review of an electric Enduro bike, especially when you usually review cars. Excellent presentation style and demonstration. Cheers man.
I would really like to see more electric car and bike content. For electric motorcycles a review of the Energica Eva/Ego would be great 👍 Thank you as always for great content 👍
Some other interesting facts: - one complete recharge costs approx. 1 Euro - equipped with ABS (anti blocking system), mandatory in the EU since 2016 - front disc brake tends to squeeze a little when being pulled really tight - exact spring travel: 21 cm / 22 cm - wheelbase: 1,43 m / 4 ft 7 - weight: 131 kg - power output: 44 hp / 106 Nm - warranty: 2 years on the bike, 5 years on the battery
Autogefühl ... Thanks for the review. Good job! Does it have a regen setting? They should definitely move the rear brake to the left hand lever since there is no clutch there. And yes, they should leave the removable battery feature for the swappable option if someone wants to get an extra battery for it.
This video review does correctly capture the sounds of the machine. Some other reviews say the bike does not make a noise, but as a rider of a Zero DSR that I can tell you there are sounds and you are hearing them in this review. Very nice!
Really cool. Can we expect to see some more electric bike reviews every now and then? BMW C-Evolution scooter would be really interesting I think. Or the other Zeros like the S.
Great video as usual 👍. The E-Motorcycles is really promising. I was just thinking few days ago to look for such things to drive inside the city and let the car only for long trips. You read my thoughts 💭
Great Video! I really would like to see the electric KTM in comparison to this bike. Nice to see something different on the channel, keep the good work up! :)
JGamingS i have an fx 2014 for 2 years and did drive the ktm . . Ktm is lighter and more mx but still not wise for big jumps . . Ktm has half the battery so half the range 2.5 kwh . . Best electric offroad is the redshift ! Greetings
+Autogefühl another great review! Please do more motorcycle reviews in the future, it would be great to see some special edition and rare bike reviewed.
Thanks. My wife and I watched your videos. I demo this vehicle this morning. Southern California is wounded this time of year. At first it was very odd. Like you stated in your test drive. Eco setting is all that’s needed. Sports was to fast for my ability. Thanks again KLR Jim
Great Review - we've seen a few modern electric offroad bikes - KTM, and Electric Motion trials bike - they look great fun - but this Review is simply head and shoulders above in detail, interest and entertainment than any other. In typical Thomas fashion he could review a coffee cup, or a fridge, and it would simply be a great video. Well done. Love the silence of the bike, especially in the countryside. Keep up the good work Thomas. Don't change!
Thanks Thomas and Autogefüehl for the excellent Zero FX electric motorcycle review!! Great riding Thomas (Did you race off road professionally at one point?) look forward to more motorcycle and dirt bike reviews from you in the future as well as automotive. 😃
At the moment none, we used to have two Suzuki RM125, a Kawasaki KMX 125, a Suzuki DR350 and a Beta Motard. I ll only buy electric now. I would love to have a Alta MX, or maybe the new 2nd generation KTM Freeride-E
Hi Thomas. I enjoyed watching that as much as you enjoyed riding the bike - but it was a real education and very impressive. But the big question - is the seat made from leatherette??!!!😆
Yaaay ! I did not know Thomas is in to Motorcycles too :D Thanks for an excellent review, I have not tried E-bike yet but I ride an 2014 Triumph Street triple for weekend rides. Cheers
Motorgefühl... I am happy to hear from it! Becouse of your video I start to be interested in 2 wheel's again! :) Of course because of the new electric engine on it! I'm really happy that You liked it! I would be happy to see more reviews of electric bikes, coz there are a lot of interesting models!
I really enjoyed this motorbike review Thomas i hope there's more to come! I think i'd like the idea of an electric bike with maximum torque on tap, however i can't live without the sound of petrol powered bike with no exhaust baffle because for me that's part of the thrill of riding a bike. Maybe with a synthetic engine/exhaust sound playing through i'll be completely convinced.
Def a fan of eBIKES . The only physical aspect i can see that hasn't been addressed in many reviews is their low speed maneuverability. These clutchless, transmissionless bikes have 0 centrifugal rotation at a standstill and minimal rotation while creeping forwards in tight/slow traffic. That (to me) is quite an important aspect of safely riding 2 wheels on a day to day machine.
Maybe they didn't have the modular battery option when this review was done, but they do now. There is the FX 7.2 which is non-modular and the FX 3.6 Modular which has half the range and power output with a 3.6KWh battery, but is equal to the FX 7.2 when you put in a second 3.6KWh battery and the batteries are removable. After watching this review though, it helped me decide to just get the full range 7.2 KWh version and save about $900. Thanks for the in depth review. Can't wait to ride one of these!
I think it would be awesome if there way a way to make an electric motorcycle that could be switched between e-bike mode and road mode so you could take it into parks and on cycle tracks and then turn to the road. It would have to have an indicator to show which mode you were in.
Perfect formula for courier firms. Only thing against it is the lack of sound for safety. How much is the battery to replace after 5 years? I guess it will lose range as it's life goes on.
In the EU most in home circuits can handle the super fast 4 port charging method that allows one to charge the most powerful 7.2kW versions of the FX Enduro and FXS Supermoto from no charge to full battery in 108 minutes or to 95% in 78 minutes! Then it can travel 91 miles at offroad or city acceleration and braking patterns. I wonder if there is a high end surge protector power strip with multiple outlets on it to allow one to connect the 4 chargers to it from an outside outlet on the side of a building with the owners permission of course. though surely there are better ways once on the go. The US Military special forces has militarized versions of this enduro model that I believe have even higher capacity and have the ability to be even more silent and can be ridden with all lighting of any kind including brake lights and tail lights de-activated, while the spec ops soliders wear special helmets with private wireless communications built into them as well as night vision/infrared technology built in. The bikes are also painted much darker with totally matte finish allowing for no reflective properties on the bike or riding gear for the lucky spec ops soldiers that gets to take these on stealth missions, lastly these mil spec Zero FX's are capable of much longer range than the civilian model because in the civilian model the battery has a built in self preservation system that prevents the batteries from being fully discharged so as to preserve its' longevity. So they can travel up to 85+ mph on or off road for 50-100 miles at least in pitch darkness, virtually silent, totally invisible to the naked eye whilst the rider is fully aware of their surroundings, as I believe the night vision is far more effective than actual visible light illumination due to infrared lighting on these bikes creating an invisibly lit field of view allowing for at least 300 meters of visibility probably more, i believe they would be strong as possible due to there being no need to worry about blinding reflections or blinding civilians in cars or what have you. Picture this: You're a resident in a middle east conflict zone, though you have no reason to fear a late night walk as things have been calming down lately. It is the lunar new moon phase and you're heading down a deserted trail or city street when a very sudden rush of air and faint whirring of an electric motor scares the very soul out of your body momentarily as it whizzes by within a foot of where you stood then fades away in 2 seconds as you strain your ears to hear what just went by you over the thumping of your own heart pounding away in your ear drums. Then find solace in knowing that you are not going insane and that what you just heard was a member of the US special forces on a Zero FX and he has good reason not to be detected in your area tonight so you best get indoors before you're caught in the middle of something you want nothing to do with 😂😂😂. Just an anecdote that illustrates how covert a silent, nimble, lightweight and fast electric two wheeled off road transportation really is. It is not exactly something you can apply to your daily life unless you're us special forces, but it has benefits as well as drawbacks elsewhere in civilian life. Benefits such as riding silently but swiftly through private trails or conservation should you accidentally wander off the open trail. Drawback could be broad siding a bull moose that stopped to eat some clovers directly in your path because he wasn't able to hear you coming from a mile away due to there being virtually no sound given the speed your travelling. I still want one so bad..
hi Thomas...it would be great to see the bmw m760i . in detail . ive seen all of your reviews. I would really like a close look at the materials bmw are using with this flagship model . is it competing with the s63 ? Irish viewer here . in addition I think ur detailed reviews of interior and exterior are fantastic. I also prefer reviews with no music . great work . BE31
Nice review, thanks. But what about it's qualities as an Enduro? I can understand you didn't want to risk hurting the bike, still those qualities would be the main reason to chose the FX.
Thomas I bet you would really enjoy reviewing the ALL-NEW 2019 Honda CRF450L Dual Sport. Honda is the first manufacturer to offer a 450 class MX race bike in dual sport get up. So it has the same titanium intake valves, lithium ion battery w/ electric start, LED lighting, titanium fuel tank but a 6 speed gearbox instead of the CRF450R's 5 speed. Which will aid performance on motorways. The CRF450R makes 60 rear wheel horsepower in stock form. This should make about 52-53 wheel hp folks are estimating, stock. It will weigh only 289lbs wet with a full tank of fuel as well which I believe is around 20-30 pounds less than the less powerful Suzuki DRZ400M. It is heavily anticipated and Honda only just posted their announcement on their website about a week ago. That and the all new Kawasaki Ninja 400 sports 'touring' bike, closer to a sports bike in look just more relaxed riding position. Lighter than the old Ninja 300 at 364lbs wet, it makes 46 wheel horsepower from its' new 399cc DOHC parallel twin engine and the bike has been taken to about 123 mph in top speed testing goes from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds quarter mile in 12.9 seconds at roughly 108 mph. It's recieved nothing but praise and videos reviewing it are getting tons of views. Thanks Thomas!
I have a really short commute that doesn't even fully warm up my motorbike this would be perfect but it's just too damn expensive here in Australia. I really want one tho but just can't justify the price.
Thomas, that was really a cool video, i would like to know what motorcycle gear do you use, since you don't use leather, so what would you recommend as an alternative for street, offroad and/or track??
thanks m8! It's indeed not that hard, my motorcycle gear is actually pretty old, both for offroad and onroad - and most of the pieces didnt even have leather by then, as there are multiple choices for modern textiles
Interesting to see Thomas driving something with a Dutch license plate :) Did the distributor send it over? How does something like this work? I wonder how a racing bike would work with an electric engine... Probably top speed will be a problem (as in draining the battery quickly), but for normal road use... Could become very interesting. Same for smaller, low power options (scooters, mopeds, tuktuks, etc.) in countries like India and China. Hopefully these options will become cheaper quite fast and those countries will get cleaner air (in the big cities) and at the same time usage of fossil fuel will be less.
With cities become more and more "multicultural", including many that come from places that don't have a culture of driving or emphasis on safety in general, that riding a motorcycle on most motorways with lots of cars is simply too dangerous anyway. And this is coming from someone who has been riding motorcycles since the age of 15, as primary transportation all through school and college, and most days to and from work for over a decade whenever the weather wasn't super hot or raining. So for a bike that is just going to be used occasionally on backroads and offroads, and often tossed in the back of a pickup truck to get to those destinations, the lack of a large battery is actually not a problem IMO.
Definitely cool. Does Zero make a bike comparable to an R1200R, standard bike but can add panniers, small windshield, longer range, that is heavy and powerful enough for freeway/Autobahn?
I was thinking about both the wheels connected to the electric motor so it can gain more mileage and smoother yet faster acceleration and regenerative braking 😃
Just curious: are you allowed to freely drive non-German vehicles in Germany as a German? Or are there restrictions? I am a Dutch citizen, and as far as I understand it, I can only drive non-Dutch vehicles in NL for a two-week period, ONLY if they are leased, rented, or borrowed, AND after you fill out a certain form that exempts you from road tax... :) I read the story of a Dutch mechanic, road-testing a Germany-registered car he just repaired. The police stopped him, and wanted to fine him for not paying his road tax... Rediculous. :)
As we don't have a general road tax in Germany it's not a big deal to ride a "foreign" car or motorcycle as a german. Of course it has to be properly registered and insured in its "home country" and it has to be road legal. A few weeks of usage is no problem and you don't have to fill out any forms or do registrations.
A nuclear powered bike. How many rare earth metals are used in it? How much polution was needed to mine those metals? What the enviromental footprint of this bike, inclusive production and recycling at the end of his life?
Zero already makes a version of this bike called the MMX for special forces around the world. Infrared lighting for riding with nightvision, modifications to allow parachute air drop delivery and a switch that allows complete draining of the battery beyond safe limits if necessary. It's actually very popular.
Great video, very in depth. This is probably the best review of this bike on RUclips. Thanks and keep up the great work!
appreciated!
Nice review. Almost every test rider raves about these incredible e motorbikes. Its hard to believe Zero dont really have any competitors including the Japanese bike builders.
I saw some information about this bike some days ago and as always the number uno, Autogefuhl gave me all the information i need

Thomas, really appreciate your review of an electric Enduro bike, especially when you usually review cars. Excellent presentation style and demonstration. Cheers man.
Highly appreciated! Please recommend our channel 😎
It sounds like one of those Imperial "Speeder Bikes"
I would really like to see more electric car and bike content. For electric motorcycles a review of the Energica Eva/Ego would be great 👍
Thank you as always for great content 👍
appreciated, let's see what we can do !
Sehr interessant und aufschlussreich, Thomas. Danke für diese Folge.
+monsterchannel24 Danke!
But does it have enough headroom in the back?
What we really need to know is: will the automatic boot door behead you?
any hard plastics?
Oh no, animal skin all over the seat! 😱
Give it shake test in the middle arm rest :)
NOT A CAR, oops wrong channel.. great work expanding your horizons!
Some other interesting facts:
- one complete recharge costs approx. 1 Euro
- equipped with ABS (anti blocking system), mandatory in the EU since 2016
- front disc brake tends to squeeze a little when being pulled really tight
- exact spring travel: 21 cm / 22 cm
- wheelbase: 1,43 m / 4 ft 7
- weight: 131 kg
- power output: 44 hp / 106 Nm
- warranty: 2 years on the bike, 5 years on the battery
abs is not mandatory on enduro bikes.
Nice review. Note: ABS = "Anti-lock Braking System"
Autogefühl ... Thanks for the review. Good job!

Im also a petrol head with 7 bikes, enduro turbo bikes all of it.
But I really would like one of these for the evening rides in the neigbourhood!
Thanks Thomas and Autogefüehl for the excellent Zero FX electric motorcycle review!! Great riding Thomas (Did you race off road professionally at one point?) look forward to more motorcycle and dirt bike reviews from you in the future as well as automotive. 😃
not professionally, but I used to ride MX and still do MTB :)
Hmm, yea I could definitely see it in the way you ride 😁 What type of motorcycle(s) do you own if any? Thanks for responding

I really enjoyed this motorbike review Thomas i hope there's more to come! Liked the variety..good work!
Good job Thomas keep it up . I love motorcycle
thanks pal !
all i can say is that i need one
My favourite bike's are Kawasaki GPZ 550&750 TURBO from the 80s&90s.
You should start reviewing bikes. There is no detail review of bikes so motogefühl wouldn't be bed idea.
I just did =)
Cars will remain the focus though
Autogefühl Can't wait bmw electric scooter or ice bmw motorcycle.
Excellent review,very comprehensive!
thanks, keep joining us!
Brilliant Thomas 👏🏻👏🏻
thanks my friend !
So, next time you will review an aero plane, or yacht?
=)
I would like to see him review the Lightning LS-218 electric motorcycle; it's a high performance beast!
I think it would be awesome if there way a way to make an electric motorcycle that could be switched between e-bike mode and road mode so you could take it into parks and on cycle tracks and then turn to the road. It would have to have an indicator to show which mode you were in.
Good review. The charging time and range limit it a bit for anything apart from local commuting, plus it's not cheap.
thanks Ed !
You look good on that Thomas !!

Wow, that's something different. ;)
This should enter the Philippine market..
awesome bikes!
the MSRP on these bikes is very affordable especially when compared to similar gas powered bikes.

very interesting, didnt know that with the military!
Enjoyed the review. Electric cars and bikes are the future. Especially for France with their plans to ban diesel and petrol by 2040.

Does Zero make a bike comparable to an R1200R, standard bike but can add panniers, small windshield, longer range, that is heavy and powerful enough for freeway/Autobahn?
not that suitable for the freeway indeed. I guess that would be better for the bigger models they offer
Supermoto Thomas!
KTM vs ZERO FX which one would you recommend?
Thanks for a detailed review!
for road driving? this one here for sure
Autogefühl Both. 50% city and 50 % amateur off-road.
Autogefühl btw, for road driving wouldn't it be better getting a BMW C-Evolution?
why do all motorcycles still use halogen headlamps? it looks especially oldschool on this otherwise ultra modern electric bike, why not led?
Krutón some did switch to LED (BMW,Ducati), but that's extra weight and cost
Can you feel the extra weight of the batteries? Does it feel heavy?
By the way I would like to see some more motorcycle content on this channel.
+ast5515 not so much of a difference!
It sounds like the future.
I was thinking about both the wheels connected to the electric motor so it can gain more mileage and smoother yet faster acceleration and regenerative braking 😃
there are indeed 2WD concepts for Enduros, one even drove the Dakar a couple of years back
Autogefühl can u address me which year Dakar rally was it and which team rider rode the bike and which auto mobile company was it
Price is absurd but the bike is dope! Top speed?
see fact sheet commentary or video description
You don't talk about the brakes. Thoughts? I feel it's extremely under braked considering the acceleration.
+Matt McManiac they were fine
Ha! Okay.
Thomas the green hooligan :)
Motorradgefühl!
Sounds like Thomas has an EV bike in his future!😁
But you didnt tell us if it was free of animal skin thomas =)
it sure is =)
Just curious: are you allowed to freely drive non-German vehicles in Germany as a German? Or are there restrictions? I am a Dutch citizen, and as far as I understand it, I can only drive non-Dutch vehicles in NL for a two-week period, ONLY if they are leased, rented, or borrowed, AND after you fill out a certain form that exempts you from road tax... :) I read the story of a Dutch mechanic, road-testing a Germany-registered car he just repaired. The police stopped him, and wanted to fine him for not paying his road tax... Rediculous. :)
good question, but we dont have the vehicles for longer anyway
As we don't have a general road tax in Germany it's not a big deal to ride a "foreign" car or motorcycle as a german. Of course it has to be properly registered and insured in its "home country" and it has to be road legal. A few weeks of usage is no problem and you don't have to fill out any forms or do registrations.
Anti Lock Braking system,Gret review.
Any wheelies?
one little one is in the POV =)
that's sweet!
Bikes are loud for a reason put a massive horn on it for safety
Nice how much does it cost
?
all infos in the review and in the video description :)
A nuclear powered bike. How many rare earth metals are used in it? How much polution was needed to mine those metals? What the enviromental footprint of this bike, inclusive production and recycling at the end of his life?
if the range could be improved, this would have serious military applications
Zero already makes a version of this bike called the MMX for special forces around the world. Infrared lighting for riding with nightvision, modifications to allow parachute air drop delivery and a switch that allows complete draining of the battery beyond safe limits if necessary. It's actually very popular.
cros13 thanks man
Whats the weather like ??
Hi Thomas! What's up with the Dutch plate? :-)
+Tom I explained that in the video :)
Tom Imported from USA to the Netherlands.
I see. Missed that.. sorry!
If you listen really really careful he actually speaks English not German :))
Do you think i was looking for a bad music video?
Any hard or soft plastics? What about headroom? 😂🤔
+VolkswagenJettaFordFocus 😎
