She'd always wondered what led her father to the Dark Side to become Darth Vader. She'd imagined it came from ambition, greed, or some other venal weakness. Never had she considered that the turn might have begin in a better place, out of the desire to save someone or to avenge a great wrong. Even if it led to evil, that first impulse might be born of loyalty, a sense of Justice, or even Love.
Actions born of good are not always wise, yet actions born of evil are not always foolish. Still, we must always strive for good, unless we be led astray.
For those who don't know, it's a loose transcription of one of the teachings of Martyr Logarius. The idea is that doing something righteous may end up backfiring spectacularly (such as asking a suspicious foreigner to help slay the vampire queen, only to create the next heir of Cainhurst). Conversely, doing an act that seems evil at first glance may end up being the best option in the long run (like refusing to help a girl find her blood-crazed father, which keeps her safe indoors instead of outside, where she gets mauled to death by a rabid boar). However, even if evil seems to be all that will ever be, we should always strive to do good things, as long as we're fully aware of the consequences we'll wrought.
I feel like if might've turned out better if he didn't ask for forgiveness. But instead (sensing the darkness in her) told Leia the story of his fall. From his childhood enslavement, the meeting of Padme and leaving of his mother, the slaughter of the sand people village. The visions of his wife's death, and subsequently; his fear of losing another person he loved turning him, and then being the cause of Padme's death. And the stronger the force is, the harder it becomes to control it. Do not repeat my mistakes. The ones that turned me into the broken shell that was Vader. If you ever need help in that regard, call for me. Or don't. Goodbye Leia." Then he vanishes, leaving it open for other authors to explore down the road, if they come up with something interesting enough. Just my thought.
I think that's the point. It shouldn't matter. It made him a horrible person regardless. Whether she was his daughter or not, he was a horrible person as Vader. She's not aware of Anakin Skywalker's personality, who he was. At least Luke had some insight into who Anakin was.
@@sarahlennox3528 It's also the fact that Leia didn't know *why* Anakin became Vader to begin with. Had she known it was actually the result of Anakin's love for Padme being warped and twisted by Palpatine's manipulations, she likely would have been quicker to forgive Anakin....and to hate Palpatine even more for corrupting something as pure as Anakin's love for his wife (and Leia's mother).
@@gamester512 As a daughter who harboured a lot of hatred for her father, I get it for those reasons, but I also understand that in her position, she doesn't want to understand his reasoning. The anger prevents you from getting too curious, and just like her father, she's an angry person lol. I mean, we got a front row seat to Anakin's fall. I cried my bloody face off during the epic fight between Obi Wan and Anakin in Revenge of the Sith. Cried like a baby. Leia is more like Anakin while Luke is more like Padme. I’d also like to know what canon Leia would think of Anakin’s spirit. Bloodline reveals what she thought of him, but it would be nice to see his ghost appear in canon.
With good direction he can pull it off. I've heard it argued that he has acted well in other movies (one of which I've seen) but the direction of the actors in the prequels kinda squandered his talent.
The Phoenix-Feathered Raven Yeah, even actors praised nowadays were rough in those movies. Hayden was considered for an Oscar nomination at one point in his career, he just wasn’t able to reach his potential due to the direction and typecasting that came with it.
Luke chatted with Anakin's Force Ghost every once in a while (in Legends). I'm sure Luke eventually assured Anakin's Force Ghost that Leia had forgiven him. And certainly, once Anakin's Force Ghost had learned that Han and Leia had named their youngest son after him, he knew that BOTH Leia and Han had not only forgiven him, but were according him the highest of honors. Nobody names their own child after someone they hate.

He fell to the dark side, and even after losing the wife he fell in order to save he kept doing evil. Enthusiastically so. I'm not sure if he should ever be forgiven.

It’s like George Lucas once said “You realize that the villain was actually the victim.” Anakin was a victim of the corrupting powers of the dark side and Palpatine’s manipulation. He did terrible things but as Star Wars has taught us, even the worst beings, if shown the light have the capacity for redemption and those who understand the light side and accept the ways of the Jedi gain the capacity for forgiveness as Luke had.
Honestly she'd probably forgive him instantaneously. She actually knew Anakin and couldn't accept Vader. He was a completely different horrible person to her. One guy would literally die for her, the other literally tried to make her die.
grizzledcroc Absolutely, but I feel like this is a moment that deserves to be on film. Unfortunately, this will be hard to do, with Carrie passing away and all (and the fact that Luke died in the movie) :(
Who's to say it won't. Maybe they make a book where Anakin does that. Maybe he warns her a little about Ben, and Leia ignores him. (needless to say, she wishes she didn't when she hears or Kylo Ren.)
Rilhon i agree definitely something for film. Especially if written well and directed well. It would probably be emotional. Especially for people who have had a bad relationship or lack there of with they're father.

Vader: 🤔.....Yeah you’re right...BUT...We had a nice assortment of refreshments on Bespin... Leia: That was nice. Vader: So do you forgive me? Leia: ...No... Vader: 😐
Someone already said this, and I agree: I feel like the conversation would’ve been better if he started by telling her the story of his fall to the Dark Side and how he was forgiven even if he didn’t deserve it. Then, once he’s finished, he says she probably won’t forgive him but he asks that she not make the same mistake he did, do not let anger and hate remain. I feel Leia would’ve understood that a bit better, maybe forgive him without him asking for it.
It wasn't just what Shmi had recorded in the diary, it was what Anakin's friends left behind on Tattooine had said as well. Vader and Anakin were two completely different beings and most who knew him before his fall attributed the horrors he had suffered in losing his mother and what he went through in the Clone Wars for his downfall. Leia finally began to understand the man that was her father and how he became the horror that was Vader, finally forgiving him of all places...in the sands of Tattooine.
I have no idea what Anakin was expecting Leia to do here. "Hey, I'm your dead dad, but I'm better now than I was when I blew up your planet and murdered people. Bygones?"
"I know I trapped your husband in carbonite and sold him to a Hutt gangster who also used you as a sex slave but are we good?" "NO dad we're not. We never will be."
Well, in Leia's perspective, Vader was a damn Tyrant of deeds too dark to mention. To only find out that He was her Father all along makes good dramatic irony. As now picturing your own father doing all those crimes makes forgiveness too difficult.
The anger of Leia is totally understandable, everything she's been through by Vader. But at the same token Vader never knew who she really was. Remember when Padme died he thought he lost the unborn child as well. Also he never knew Padme we're carrying twins and they were split up so Vader can never since them. Leia's true identify was well hidden and she had no connection to the force. So Vader thought she was an normal enemy to the Empire! Vader did torture Leia but it was Grand Moff Tarkin who the order to destroy Alderaan. But I always believed that if Vader knew that Leia is his daughter he would've never place any harm to her. If Bale Organa and Obi Wan made recordings telling Leia about her mother Padme and Anakin's relationship, as a Jedi and to explain what cause Anakin to fall to the Dark Side that probably would've made things much easier!
In the original trilogy novel (at least in the version I have), before the duel in the throne room, Luke suggests Vader that he probably didn't get to kill Leia in "A new hope" because he felt an instinctive Force connection to her. Im not sure if that part appears in the film.
Leia is force sensitive, in Legends she completes her training and becomes a Jedi as well. In the shitty Disney movies she also uses the force, and even becomes a force ghost.
Steven Nguyen 2008-2014 Clone Wars tv show is both Legends and canon. It was made before Disney bought Star Wars. When Disney bought Star Wars they cancelled the show.
Just have him sacrifice his life taking down a demi god in a crashing space ship, than grab one of your fathers twigs and replant him. mabye he will come out better next time as he grows into a big boy groot.
A powerful, moving scene, glad we have it in Legends. The scene really makes you think, while showing you a very different side of things with Leia's reaction, which for some can be very unexpected as you might expect her to react like her brother did. I ended up realizing that unlike Luke, she wasn't there to witness Anakin's redemption, she she didn't see and feel what Luke experienced, plus she have the benefit of Jedi training at that time, which taught forgiveness. There is also the fact, as Leia points out, that she has personally suffered more from Vader than Luke has.
Ernest Wang It is sad, but also understandable, she grew up with Bail as her father, unlike Luke who was told his father had died, and didn't know much about him or his mother, he knew what was told by his aunt and uncle, but always wanted to know more, and Luke was a Jedi which allowed him to more deeply see Vader, and know that Anakin was in there never truly consumed by the Dark Side, and he wanted to redeem him, to bring him to the light and save him, to Leia on the other hand he was the one who basically killed her entire family, and not just tortured her but her husband too, cut off her brother's hand, and basically caused so much suffering in the galaxy, but once she discovered who Anakin was she was more willing to forgive
Randy Cheow Because being forced sensitive doesn't mean you can understand the force, or that you can know what it means just for being force sensitive, you need to train to understand the force, also Luke and Vader had a more personal connection, and both could feel each others presence.
Well, Luke saw his father sacrifice his life to save him and the entire galaxy, he believed there was good on Vader for some time and even got a final apology. Leia got nothing, she was just asked to forgive like that.
I would have loved to have seen this scene brought to life in some way. From the beginning of episode four, it was implied that Vader and Leia had a history of running into one another, which Rebels seemed to support in the way that they depicted Leia sneakily handing off ships and supplies to the rebel cells. It was always so disappointing that we didn't get to see more of a reaction from her when her parentage was revealed.
Rather than trying to tell her he was a different person, I feel like he should have told her to find forgiveness instead so that she wouldn't become like him. He was unable to let go of his anger and guilt, which is what drove him to the Dark Side and what caused him to do such terrible things. Telling her how the Dark Side can truly effect a person would have made her come to realize he WAS a different person, rather than him trying to say he was "a stranger asking for forgiveness".
Yea I think it would have been better if he didnt ask for forgiveness, but instead tried to explain how he was manipulated and what truly caused him to turn to the dark side. Just maybe trying to tell her about his past, so that maybe she or Luke would not make the same mistakes
I would have forgive him Palpatine was the on that was controlling him in the dark side but then Luke saved him Anakin wouldn't do all that if it wasn't for Palpatine
Exactly, im sure leia in the sequels is aware of this, she seems wise and it would be out of charecter for her to resent her dad after all this time and her resentment would be the darkside in her
Fuck no, why would anyone forgive someone after such a shitty "apology"? I'd tell him to fuck off too! I'd also get mad as fuck if he tried to tell me about the anger in me - he fucked up his own life already, he has no ground to dare expect me to act any certain way, and even if I want to be evil he needs to shut up. Who the fuck tries to lecture someone during an apology, or tries to guilt them into one...
It happened not so long after the episode 6, she was still quite young and let's not forget of what happened back in the Original Trilogy. She was tortured, had Alderaan blown up and saw how many people suffered because of him, even those that she cared about, so she has a right to be angry
@@PriusRaj he messed up due to manipulation by Palpatine, being fed lies and having his emotions twisted into hate for the ones he cared about all because his wife died. ANAKIN held his wife and his friends above his own life, and Palpatine exploited this. The point is that Vader is a bad person overall because he did those bad things by his own choice. But if he knew Leia was his daughter I guarantee he wouldnt have done any of the things he did. And if Leia knew more about why Anakin became Vader, she would have forgiven him. Afterall in the end Leia's son, Ben did the same thing Vader did

Celrek_Lonebomb dude write this story! It’s good!
In Vader’s defense he didn’t know Leia was his daughter until he died.
To her, there's no reasoning that could equate to his actions. She never knew the truth behind why Anakin turned, and with her limited scope, she didn't much care. The anger prevents you from getting too curious, and just like her father, she's an angry person lol. I mean, we got a front row seat to Anakin's fall. I cried my bloody face off during the epic fight between Obi Wan and Anakin in Revenge of the Sith. Cried like a baby. But, I've read how she grew up and became involved in the Rebels and whatnot, and it gives you a good vantage point as Leia. Vader killed her parents, as far as she's concerned. I don't think she ever wanted to know more about him or care to wonder anything, he's no more than the man that murdered her parents, her planet, tortured her, Han, and tried to set the galaxy on fire, basically lol. I don't know, that's just how I see it. You may have already, but the book "Leia: Princess of Aldaraan" by Claudia Gray is an excellent book that shows you about Leia's upbringing.

I think this fits pretty well with her character.
Honestly, I feel sad to hear when Leia rejects her recent redeemed father and I feel bad for Anakin.
Ernest Wang
It is sad, but also understandable, she grew up with Bail as her father, unlike Luke who was told his father had died, and didn't know much about him or his mother, he knew what was told by his aunt and uncle, but always wanted to know more, and Luke was a Jedi which allowed him to more deeply see Vader, and know that Anakin was in there never truly consumed by the Dark Side, and he wanted to redeem him, to bring him to the light and save him, to Leia on the other hand he was the one who basically killed her entire family, and not just tortured her but her husband too, cut off her brother's hand, and basically caused so much suffering in the galaxy, but once she discovered who Anakin was she was more willing to forgive
CPU Purple Heart/Neptune
But Leia is also force sensitive, why can't she sense her father just like Luke
Randy Cheow
Because being forced sensitive doesn't mean you can understand the force, or that you can know what it means just for being force sensitive, you need to train to understand the force, also Luke and Vader had a more personal connection, and both could feel each others presence.
unless ure name is Rey of course. She's hardly had any Jedi training and she could probably beat Darth Sidious! lol. smh.
It’s cool
To see how Leia has more of her fathers personality in her and Luke takes after his mother. Would of loved to see Leia as a Jedi

It happened not so long after the episode 6, she was still quite young and let's not forget of what happened back in the Original Trilogy.

legends > disney canon
z0mg Legends is my canon
I like things from Both cuz Disney has stupid things b legends does too
Terry Cupboards I do understand some things were bad, but it wasn't as bad as many people like to think.
David Arrieta At least Legends didn't kill off the whole Skywalker/Solo clan !
your point is .....? death is expected they would of be eventually be killed in legends
