Hi lee, just wanted to say that i have enjoyed watching your videos for a while now and have always found them to be informative with the advice you give on each car you buy.
Worked in the trade myself years ago and have bought and sold many cars for myself over the years, I enjoy tidying them up, making an crabby car look better, thanks and keep making the vlogs.

Lee, you did the right thing by trading it on.
back in my GKN Autoparts days I supplied paint to a few farmyard paint shops who would rough sand paintwork like that and then grab a tin of truck paint (Dulux to most of us) and hot-pot blow it over. the finish was excellent.

It was Chrysler that delivered the engine. It was also used in the PT Cruiser. My nephew had a Mini with that engine, and guess what broke down? Right - the gearbox.

Was it a pre or post facelift? Cause I know the pre had rover gearboxes which well, weren't fantastic shall we say, I do know the post ones had some sort of improved gearbox

We had an R50 cooper which was also a 56 plate so like your mini it's was also 1 of the very last. Ours always had a problem with the Air bag light. When our lass decided she wanted 1 I looked for a good month as I walked 1 with the crono pack I hated the silly big Speedo, so at least it came with the extra gauges and the smaller Speedo with the Rev counter. It was also the only cooper I found with cruise control. I'd seen Cooper S with cruise and decent extras but not a cooper. I worked at the time 18 miles away all fast country roads and dual carriageways when on nights I'd fly home in a morning they do drive well but other than that are nothing special. As I worked at an ex Rover foundry for many years I worked on foundry tooling approval of the K-series head but not block, shame Rover never got to the bottom of headgasket failures and used the Engine in minis . Would have been alot of extra work for us. We lost a contract we were supposed to have with BMW around 2000ish , it never started must have been for possible K-series. We closed in 05 after losing all Rover and Landrover work both in 05.

    • @carukchannel
      @carukchannel  Год назад +1

interesting comment jeremy thanks for sharing. I know the head gasket they changed later on which helped with the some failure but it did not solve the headlift which was mostly down the large stretch bolts used and them never being talked up at service intervals which would of helped in prevention. Also early engines they switch from wet to dry liners on the bottom end, some say that had a effect, I am not sure tbh

I bought one the same mate 04 plate, 1 owner, full bmw mini history, Aston barclay, say 500 with fees, painted the bonnet due to laq peel, unfortunately miss fire, it'd had plugs, coil pac leads, I knew what it was, down on compression on one pot, number 2,exhaust valve be burning out, sold it as a bit of a project and some people came from Scotland and drove back, unfortunately engines are rubbish, boxes are rubbish, steering goes faulty, but great looking little cars, bought a latish diesel and chain came thru top off engine, had loads and non been too good tbh.

Personally I would keep the spend down to around £250 max and got the bonnet painted, covered the roof, touched up the small lacquer peel, fixed window and air bag and put a full mot on it and sold it on Facebook marketplace for a £1,250 and have it sold quickly
But understand you have others cars with much more potential needing your attention

Got a 2012 mini with the prince engine. Cooper S. It's got an engine fault. Under light throttle and idle it's smooth but press down past 50 percent on the accelerator and it shakes. If you don't back off the engine management light will come on and the car will then run on 3 cylinders. My specialist changed coil pack which fixed it for 2 weeks now it's back as before. I therefore suspect it was fixed by resetting the codes and not the coil pack. Or its killed another coil pack. It's the N18 at least not the N14. But still way too complex. About 9 fault codes on as one sensor failing can confuse the rest. Here's hoping it's eventually fixed. Drives great when it is working and the red paint is immaculate without peel. N18 when working in cooper S is quick and fun.

I try and avoid red cars of this age for this reason, all have lac peel on them, you can paint them but it just eats into your profit quite excessively in some cases. I have a 2009 Mini in stock at the moment with the 1.4 engine, not got much interest in it but there is always a car for everyone so I will be patient. Minis can be a headache to fix, and parts are quite expensive for them. I think this will be the last Mini I will buy to sell though, think I will stick with the normal generic models.

@@flippingcarsrepairs yep it works, I know the prince engines aren’t the most popular but it’s quite nippy, plus I got it for a reasonable price.

Cracking little motor,I’ve never understood why people purchasing a small car would buy anything other than a mini. They hold their value more than any other car in its class.

It was cheap but I still wouldn't have bought it with all the lacquer peeling off. The litany of other issues mean whoever buys it is not retailing it.

I've had 2007 Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 1.6 HDi diesel with manual gearbox since 2009 when it had 12k, now nearly 16 yrs old with approx 78k. Generally has short local use, but doesn't suffer from DPF issues (big problem with many other diesels) as it uses eolys system which I've not yet had to top up or replace, and car returns 41mpg. Excellent on getting through MOTs with no rust issues. Essential to service correctly with recommended engine oil to avoid major engine / turbo expense. As per most / all diesels, clutch has dual mass flywheel which is expensive to replace (had it once), and also had ABS ECU fail several yrs ago which cost £1k, but no other big expenses. Comfortable, good flexible seating arrangements (2 rears are ok for adults at a push, but better for children. Drives well with reasonable power, probably best to avoid the autos which can be jerky / troublesome. This model still looks good and loads available at good price. This is my experience as a non-expert, would be interested in Lee''s experience...

Might only be £116 cash wise which some people will sneer at but that's a quick 20% plus gross margin, presumably without waiting to get paid too! Sounds like a nice deal to me..

Minis are junk. We got given a free one. Spent 2200 quid until I gave up and got rid.
    Dreadful horrible things.
I never got to the bottom of the oil leaks.
Dreadful car. So bad we don’t even talk about it in the house

Not a wise move, they are known to be problematic and the parts are expensive. It's cheap for a reason.. I predict It will turn out not to be a Bargain.
