Clough Head sits quite near the A66 and opposite one of my favourite fells, Blencathra. It dominates the southern side of the road as you approach Keswick from the direction of Penrith and is near the delightful village of Threlkeld. I've climbed Clough Head many times, mainly from the Old Coach Road via White Pike and also when walking on The Dodds.
Todays route up the Mountain is called Fisher's Wife's Rake?
Apparently some two hundred or so years ago the Fisher's lived in the nearby hamlet of St John's in the Vale and in order to provide fuel for his family.
Mr Fisher cut peat up on Clough Head. However, whilst peat cutting was extremely hard work for Mr Fisher, it was his poor old Missus that got the had the hard part of the bargain.
In order to get the peat back to the family property, poor old Mrs Fisher had to haul the dried fuel down a steep, stony & grassy descent.
Climbing up it is extremely steep and lung busting but hauling heavy peat down a hazardous incline must have been quite an ordeal and not to mention extremely dangerous. She must have been quite a woman!!

Not one to be getting caught out on in bad weather another epic route I didn’t know existed 👌
Thanks Mike very much appreciated mate it's a great route but yeah definitely one for a good day I've been up in winter (very slippy) ...have a fantastic weekend Marra ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Looks like tough route up clough head Andy, it confirms what I've already know that clough head is a brutal climb anyway up 😂💪👌
Cheers Paul aye mate Clough Head gets a la'al bit underestimated...not a place you'd want to go wrong in poor weather thanks for watching Marra 😊 👍🏻
Crikey Andy it not for the average 'tourist' this accent 😮 great route up on to Clough Head though. Ya did reet bt sitting out that shower it looked very inhospitable with them menacing clouds ☁️ 🌨🌧 Excellent pictures at the end of the vlog 👌 ❤ another terrific walk with you & the legend that is The Rockstar 🐶🐕❤
Thanks as always David aye that was one hard pull up nothing technical just very very steep...yes mate the photos where taken on my new phone galaxy s22 ultra...wow!! what a great camera most them shots where 10x optical zoom I'm delighted how well they look on the TV so I'll probably stick with adding a few in future videos...im getting drone withdrawal as its been too windy to fly in my last two walks and I just love flying its a highlight to my day for me and the footage never fails to amaze me..so hopefully next walk less wind.
Take care mate

@@RockStar67 fingers crossed for a quieter spell of weather & definitely keep on with the excellent quality pictures 📷 👌 👍 cheers Andy 🍻 👍
Very nice hike out. Random thought when you said Rowan tree. Rowan was the name of the missing girl in the film The Wicker Man who Edward Woodward was trying to find. Glad you made it back!
Man that's a great film in't it...aye that random rowan tree is about the only land mark in what's a realy tricky rout to find....hope your keeping well buddy thanks for watching

Hey Andy, Wainwrights comments at the beginning were correct, bloody hell that looked steep mate and you certainly tell it how it is which is perfect, never seen this route on video before and I can see why LOL. Great route though not for me but loved seeing you show us. Great filming and desciption as usaul, pushing the boundaires on hiking in the lakes which sets you out for sure. Great addition on the photos at the end, great shots, they were not taken on a phone were they. Take care pal
As always Steve thank you very much for watching and the amazing feedback... Aye mate sometimes it's hard to capture the steepness roughness and how hard going some of these lesser known routes are this was a leg buster nothing technical but very very steep...lol i absolutely love this stuff and get such a adrenaline rush...
Take care mate 😊👍🏻

Definitely is a tuff route Andy oh boi even the start is hard to find mate (AW was right )
And totally new to me this (only the most knowledgeable Fell walkers would know this like your self )thanks for sharing the knowledge mate 👍🤠
Best regards to Tracy and a pat for Billy boy🙏🏼
Simon 🤠👍⛰️
Thanks for watching Simon hope your keeping well...Aye mate Fisher's Wife's Rake nothing technical apart from finding the route and very very steep ground... Lol my favourite kind of hiking
Take care buddy all the very best to you all

Been wanting to do this walk since seeing this video, finally got round to doing it today ( April 26) It's a fantastic route up Clough Head and I really enjoyed it ! However being bombarded by an angry Buzzard while ascending the rake did add a little bit too much excitement !! Cheers Andy
Superb Dean pleased you enjoyed you got a great day for it...there's a pair of Peregrine falcons up there have been for years and they get very territorial (they'll have grown up chicks just now so even worse than normal) lol they get very close 😳🤣
Thanks for watching buddy very much appreciated 😊
ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
I wasn't too sure what bird it was so it may have been a Peregrine ! All I knew was it was pretty big , very fast and extremely close ! If I hadn't have ducked down I think it would've took my cap off !! 😀 I have had a fantastic few days in the Lake District staying in Threlkeld , been so lucky with the weather ! going home tomorrow but hopefully going to get up Blencathra first thing in the morning using your route via Gates Gill Fell. Once again thanks really enjoy the alternative routes !!
Cheers buddy Gategill Fells a great choice...lol from your description it was definitely the Peregrines 🤣🤣 keep ya heed doon Marra!!
Tek care and safe journey home bud

Yo homie, a few sketchy paths on this one, bloomin steep too.
No problems for the rock star though 🤜🤛🏔️
Hiya buddy...thanks for watching aye Marra that grounds very sketchy the first time I did this route in snow and ice i got it wrong and ended up in some bloody awful ground....i needed to put things right and found the right way this time 🤣👍🏻
ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐
When someone says ya don't want to be up here in bad weather, my brain says "are you challenging me".. a winter 2024 climb it is then! 🤣
This is a walk in't park for a Mountain like you Marra... Smash it!!
🤣 Thanks for watching buddy 👍🏻
Great video thanks! On good day that looks like a very do-able route and much more efficient than going round the back of Clough Head on the old Coach Road. Looks like the path you took down via Threlkeld Knotts could be a safer route up when out in a group with less confident walkers?
Thanks for watching buddy the path up from Threlkeld Knotts is a very good well trod traverse path a good way to go...fisher's Wife's Rake is a bit more tricky a scramble through scree and scrub a route a lot of less experienced walkers probably wouldn't like.
Tek care and stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
This is a better route for a group walk

That didn’t seem to be too much of a scramble… or was it deceiving?!
Lol aya Marra....nothing technical just rough hard sreep ground with a million options to get it wrong 👍🏻
Nice one again Andy👍 great commentary again for anyone wanting to do this hike. Looked a steep one. Nice photos at the end👍
I usually watch vids on my phone and quality looks the same as before Andy. I film mine in 4K for the benefit of those watching on a 4K tv which I haven’t got.
Out of curiosity what did you film in beforehand.?
ATB
Frank.👍🏴🏔
Hiya Frank thanks for watching Buddy I normally film in 1080p 30 FPS on both the drone and gopro...where I live RUclips normally plays back at 720p which is still very good even on the big TV...I edit everything on powerdirector on my phone which I've just updated to a Galaxy s22 Ultra with lots more ram and storage...the playback of the 4K on my phone is just awesome (what a difference) it still streams 720p on the TV and phone but I think it runs a bit smoother so ill probably stick with filming 4K for the future as I think one day everyone could be playing back in 4K as standard...
Thanks for the feedback Frank much appreciated 😊👍🏻
ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐
Steep climb that andy only seen one other video taking that route on so well done you👍...4k footage I find is more about the device you watch it on my TV makes it look loads better than my laptop ....all in all quality mate ..ATB Andrew 👍⛰️
Thanks Andrew yeah I find stuff streams better on the TV than the phone or Laptop I may stick with the 4K as I'm sure things could change in the future...the quality of the download on my Galaxy s22 Ultra is amazing...thanks for watching and the feedback buddy much appreciated
