Skiddaw's slopes are generally rounded and convex, looking from a distance as though a thick velvet blanket has been draped over a supporting frame.
On the ridges the general terrain is of loose stones, but elsewhere all is grass and heather.
Wainwright noted that "Its lines are smooth, its curves graceful; but because the slopes are steep everywhere, the quick build-up of the “massif” from valley levels to central summit is appreciated at a glance - and it should be an appreciative glance, for such massive strength and such beauty of outline rarely go together."

Yet again another cracking video. Your channel is a great resource for planning walks and scouting camping locations as well as being good tv. This may well be my next trip North so great to see it shown off so well. ATB Jason👍👍
Thanks for the fantastic feedback Jason Mate your very welcome 😊👍🏻 Tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Another cracker, Andy and Billy. Really pleased you got the views in the end although it was Baltic. We've done all those hills but never been up Burnt Horse - on the list for next time we're up. Beautiful views. ATB Brian and Jill 😊😊
Another fantastic walk and video Andy. This brings back great memories for me of my own walk up Skiddaw last Summer. I'm so pleased the conditions finally cleared for you on Skiddaw's true summit. 👌
Thanks as always Ian very much appreciated hope your keeping well Tek care Mate 😊 ATVB Andy and your la'al fury pal Billybob ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Nice one again Andy. That looked flipping cold up there on Skiddaw. Got to keep going in winter, otherwise you get cold quickly. Had thad a few years ago on High Raise and on the way down into Langstrath at minus 15 c. All the waterfalls on the way down were frozen solid. Couldn't stop, otherwise you'd freeze. Nice and warm in the Langstrath Inn at the end with a few beers though! 🍺
Thanksxandy your videos get better m8 👌🏻👍🏻👏🏻
Awww thanks buddy 😊 very much appreciated 😁 Tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
One of the best videos I've seen, cracking! Lovely birthday walk! Same birthdate as my last dog.

How do you manage to get this footage while observing the CAA regulations. As i understand it, you can fly no higher than 120m above the surface, which wouldn’t be a problem flying along a ridge line but once you come away, the height from the surface dramatically increases. Genuine question, I’m guessing i must have misunderstood the CAA regulations.
Yep there the regulations Tony it's a massive grey area in Mountain terrain. If someone was to fly a drone away from the edge of a mountain at the hight of 100 meters to the middle of a valley 1000 meters above the valley bottom the drone will still only register 100 meters, so any recorded flight records would still be within CAA regulations. I'd be very interested to know if there's a RUclipsr or Film Maker that actually manages to keep to these rules as there's probably dozens of drones up there on any given day. I guess it's the same grey area for aircraft that shouldn't be lower than 500 feet off the ground when on the Hills there often in the valley below us.
@@RockStar67 Thanks for the reply. Loving your videos👍
Very much appreciated Tony...thanks for watching 😊 🙏🏻
10 summits on the way to Skiddaw,? Who knew... well I didn't? That was great to watch and find them all. And what a reward at the end. Your photography is stunning. You are always so positive even if it is -10. Brilliant
Aww thanks Heather I wish I was as relaxed all the time as I am when I'm out on't Hills...there definitely my comfort zone my happy place 😁 Thanks as always for watching very much appreciated 😊 Tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
The best way uo Skiddaw, leaving behind the 'Tourists trail' up Jenkin Hill & taking the path towards Skiddaw House 🙂sooo much qieter 😊 it seems to take forever to get to the summit, so it's head down, & keep pn bloody going 😂😂 must have been baltic if you say it was up tops 😮😮too damn cold for me Andy, ill take spring/summer/Autumn if that's ok 😂😂 Tangerina looked ready & waiting fo for ya at the gate😊 excellent walk this, in my top list of routes to walk in The Lakes, 👌regards to You, Tracey and of course The legend that is The Rockstar 🐶🐕❤
Thanks as always David aye mate it was the coldest wind I remember for a long time ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ Them atmospherics blowing south down Skiddaws ridge where out of this world 👀🌨️❄️☁️ Tek care Mate stay safe ATVB Andy Tracey and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Well done Andy! Another great video! Love the cloud footage on the summit of Skiddaw. It really did look baltic though! When we did Skiddaw the wind was so bad we couldn't stand upright! 😂
Lol...Skiddaw seems to always be windy doesn't it...even when Blencathras flat Skiddaw can be blowing like hell 🤣 Thanks as always for watching very much appreciated 😁 Tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Another cracker Andy. Some fab weather stuff going on too. I wasn’t aware of that route up to Lonscale but just checked Wainwrights Northern Fells book and it is in there. I will definitely do that route when I am next up in the Lakes at the end of March. TFS mate. 🙏🙏🙏
Hi Andy and Billy. Loved that route when I saw it on a previous video of yours. It looks a fabulous walk along Ladyside Pike. Id like to think I could get to do that route some time in the future as Ive not done Whiteside and Hopegill Head yet. Id better give my son a nudge lol. ATB
Well worth a visit Tony a nice quiet remote route for me is always the best route...lol i have been asked in't past if I want it quiet then why do I give the locations up...thats simple I love making videos I love the appreciation and feedback you guys give me...if your a couple of hours up before other people you'll always find ya quiet times. Tek care Mate stay safe 😊 ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Hi Andy and Billy. What a fabulous video. That walk up to Lonscale Fell along Burnt Horse Ridge was one of our favourites last year thanks to watching the previous walk you did along there. Loved the valley and the views from the top. We never saw Skiddaw as it was in clag all the time so we just made our way back down the main path. Glad you finally got some super atmospheric views from the summit. Another epic adventure ATB
Thanks as always Tony very much appreciated mate 😁 What fantastic atmospherics blowing south down Skiddaws ridge but soooooo cold ❄️ ❄️ Awesome!!! Tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Ey up Marra, Billy, what a cracking day, the weather indeed was very kind to you in the end, although it looked freezing on Skiddaw. Shame you didn’t get the views down the valley from Lonsclale Pike. I love the walk down the Glenderaterra valley, it was my favourite section of the Cumbria Way last year. We are out in the Uldale Fells on Saturday. All the best Andy 🥾⛰🥶
Aye thanks Dave lol persistent eh I was determined to get to that sun 🤣🤣 What fantastic atmospherics and as I said definitely the coldest I've been in for a long time ❄️❄️❄️ Uldale rounds one of my favourites love them Hills enyoy 😁 Tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Conditions pretty amazing on the top of Skiddaw Andy, stunning pictures of the clouds over the summit and the panoramic view around. Felt brass just watching. southerly blowing those clouds parallel with summit ridge - spectacular photography in lots of weather variation. Well rewarded at North Top what a great winter view. A great days walking, liked quieter winter feel of Skiddaw and the route you took. Brilliant information over the 10 tops. Tks Andy and of course Rockstar.
I'm pleased you noticed and commented on them atmospherics blowing down the ridge Christopher as the day realy and was incredible and I tryed my hardest to film the conditions. What a great day 😊 ❄️❄️❄️❄️ Thanks for watching buddy very much appreciated 😁 Have a great weekend Tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Another cracking video Andrew! 👌
Thanks for watching Craig very much appreciated 😁
great drone footage 😀
Thanks Mel very much appreciated 😁 Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Hi Andrew how does the stirrup crag scramble compare to the bell rib?
Hiya Dan thanks for watching buddy very much appreciated 😁 My opinion is Bell Rib is a fairly easy scramble with no issues Stirrup Crag on the other hand I'd say a hard Scramble with a few steep parts that could cause some folk problems especially with dogs there's not many places Billy doesn't go but I'd not take him on Stirrup Crag. Tek care bud stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Thanks Andy for sharing another adventure with us. Drone footage was amazing, I got a bit worried when you were near a very long drop. Well done to you and the Rockstar such a long trek. Take care and stay safe. ATB to you and Billy.😊
Awww thanks Yvonne the drop off the front of Burnt Horse looked awesome from the drone didn't it 😁 It always looks more dramatic from the drones view we were very safe but thank you 😊 Have a lovely weekend tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and your la'al pal Billy The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Fantastic walk and route that. Think it’s one we’ll do in future. I was praying the cloud would break for you and what views you got in the end. 👍

My last trip to Skiddaw must have been in 2011 because it coincided with Cav winning the green jersey on the Champs Elysée. I turned on Manx Radio to find out the result and their pundit sounded as if he was in tears. My mate and I descended to a scruffy camp by the infant Caldew. You didn’t mention Skiddaw as a Furth so I checked on Hill Lists to see if it’s there and the app has Skiddaw summit in 15 lists. Any ideas on what a Buxton and Lewis is? Great video although I miss seeing you fall into a tarn!
Hiya Buddy thanks for watching very much appreciated 😁 Aye Skiddaw has many classifications in fact lots I know very little about or even heard of...but I did find some info to your question 👍🏻 The Buxton & Lewis 422 Mountain summits in England and Wales over 2000-foot. Put together by by Chris Buxton and Gwyn Lewis (1986) Buxton and Lewis used a prominence threshold of two contour rings on the OS 1:50,000 map, and the number of hills is similar to the 446 Nuttalls in England and Wales. Thanks again Tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
A brilliant video Andy! I love the crescendos of the opening music. Those views from up top were well worth the effort....albeit bloody cold!! Crackin' route. A good alternative to the up-and-down of the tourist path.
Thanks Adie it was a tough day to get that drone up but managed with some great footage of Burnt Horse Ridge...it was way to wild on't Summits then as we came back down absolutely beautiful with no wind...a great day on't Hills I'm so pleased we made the effort and ploughed on to the Summit Plateau of Skiddaw that wild atmospheric weather realy was something 👍🏻 Thanks for watching buddy very much appreciated Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻

Another cracker of a video of one of my favourite circuits in the NW fells. I've not found a way down the nose of Dodd yet either. Love the shots of those ridges in that light. Billy's drum solos are getting more impressive every time and you've got me humming along with the music! 🤣 As usual, clear instructions which don't detract at all from the balance of the rest of the video, the scenery, Billy of course, the route and stunning drone footage. That drone's as well trained as Billy! Nice mention of cancer support, nice one Andy. Cancer touches everyone one way or another, either personally or through friends or family.
What a joy to watch, I love your mountain knowledge and how fearless Billy is. So glad I found your channel!
Aww thanks Kim very much appreciated 😁 Have a fantastic weekend 😊 Tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
What a glorious walk!
Thanks Vic very much appreciated 😁
Best wishes to Mike & all those battling out there. Andy and Rockstar that was a really engaging walk. Thank you for guiding us around. Beautiful early light for those shots up to Ladyside Pike and Hopegill Lovely coverage of the traverse to Whiteside. In the clag was impressive. Stunning view back along ridge when sun cut through. Those Brocken Spectres were something else. See why AW chose West Top. As always much appreciated all the info along the way. Particularly the Fell spotting vistas. Tks.
Thanks Christopher awesome feedback and very much appreciated 😁 Have a great weekend bud tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Nice to see you supporting prostate cancer uk. The more men are that are made aware the better don't forget most men diagnosed don't have symptoms .cheers
Absolutely David thanks for the great feedback buddy have a great weekend 😊 Tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
I've been up the North side of Dodd, no real path anywhere. Steep with deep heather and rocky outcrops, "fun" if you like that sort of thing. There's a nice descent from the Dodd col following the path Southwest then South to Cold Gill Beck and then pathless down the beck. Thanks for another great video.
Lol....we love that kind of thing...although it did look a bit horrendous especially getting down...ill have to check the Cold Gill route I think I've been down it but it's many years ago. Have a great weekend buddy 😊 Tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Another great video, Andy and Billy. We love that route too. Lovely to see the Brocken Spectre - always a treat seeing them - we saw three up Catstycam last Winter in an inversion. All the very best wishes to your friend Mike - thinking of him. What a lovely gesture too, giving you that little chap. ATB Brian and Jill 😊😊
Thanks as always Brian and Jill very much appreciated especially the kind wishes for Mike...he was chuffed to bits with the video shout out and a bit of Prostate Cancer awareness 🙏🏻 Have a great weekend guys tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏🏻
Ey up Marra, ey up Billy. What a cracking day in the mountains as always, some amazing views and that Brocken Spectre has to be one of the brightest I’ve ever seen. Good luck to Mike on his battle, everything crossed that you pull through mate. All the best to everyone Dave 😀🥾⛰
