You guys are the best! I wrote to you a couple weeks ago about doing something that I think many others who transition from Blackstone to PitBoss may have done. Tried to scrape the surface while still hot, causing my scraper to melt on my cooktop. First off, you replied within 2 days. AMAZING! Secondly, you sent me this link and I just completed the process 19 minutes ago and my cooktop looks brand new! You are true experts in your field! Thank you!
Oh wow, thank you so much for the kind words fam!! We are here to help where we can, we loving sharing our passion for cooking with others. We really appreciate the love. Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🔥🔥
I am here to tell everyone that this WORKS!!! I had two brown stains that formed in the middle of my Pit Boss Ultimate and I just went through a baking soda cleaning on the cooktop and it cleaned it up!!! It looks like I took it out of the box!!! Thank you Waltwins!!

Very nice to know how easy it is to clean that Pit Boss griddle. Looks brand new. I'm sure I'm going to replace my Blackstone top with a stainless steel one in the near future.
Great video! I just did it after making the Taco Bell Crunchwrap last night. The whole family said they were better than Taco Bell Now I am back to a beautiful griddle. Thank you
Awesome! We love that this thing can come out like new again! We have found that washing with hot water and soap after each use reduces the need cut the deep clean. Thank you so much shut watching brother! Griddle on!!!😁❤️🤙
Oh man! This is exactly the video I needed. My 5 burner ultimate needs a little love, but I wasn't sure how to do a good deep clean without scratching the surface.
Woot woot!! For sure fam! This has worked for us every time!! We’ll give more information if we learn this will “hurt” over time, but all the research we’ve done says this is the best and safest method. Take care and GRIDDLE ON!🤙🤙🔥🔥
I use this same process on my 36" twice a year. Only difference is I take the top off and place it on saw horses to i can rinse it without using the drip pans. Great way to clean the griddle and keep it Tip Top!!!!
Enjoy the videos. To help people to understand why food is sticking I believe is the temperature they are cooking at on the griddle. When using butter the smoke point is 300-350 degrees and the temperature to cook an egg only needs to be 250-325 degrees. Most newbie to griddling are not taking in consideration of the amount of heat needed to cook. Adjust the heat to the food and the sticking issues on non stick will be better attained.
Thank you for watching and for the input! Agreed. That said, most griddles struggle to get down to those temps, we try to show how to control the temps, specifically by not using all burners all the time. Take care fam!
I just bought my first griddle yesterday! I Only bought this 3 burner Sierra model based soley on your great review. Thanks guys!!!! just subscribed. love your reviews and walk throughs on how to's. I also just order from amazon from your links.
@@waltwins It did a number on it. I think the ceramic coatings are different. I have a question for you. Besides price what is the differences between the 3burner Ultimate Liftoff and the Walmart Sierra? They seem the same to me?
Wow, look at that mirror finish! Amazing! Looks brand new again! Would vinegar and baking soda ruin the top? I just like how the 2 mixed together sizzles! Just like a science project.
Thank you fam!! In doing research, it’s what is recommended if a deeper clean is needed - apparently it will not react with the ceramic which is pretty cool!! Much love brother!!🤙🤙
That cleaned up nicely! Does the surface seem to keep it's non-stick coating after scrubbing during the deep cleans? I know a lot of non-stick pans don't tend to stay non-stick after a lot of deep cleans. OMG, I can't wait to get a Pit Boss griddle. I am hoping to work on the patio expansion this year, but things have been put on hold because of some health issues, but my plan is to have my Blackstone, a Pit Boss griddle and Smoker/grill, and I want to build a pizza oven. I also want to cover part of the patio. I'd love to make a video of the whole process too. Can't wait!! Griddle On!
Thank you so much fam! Only time will tell - we hope to learn more as we go - doing extensive research, this seemed to be one of the safest and most recommended ways to get the surface really cleaned from staining without harming the surface. As we learn more for sure we’ll share that info!!🔥🔥
Great info guys i always struggle with my indoor blackstone with the stuff that wont come up I’ve tried the baking soda and water into a paste just never let it soak I’ll give your version a shot and see how it goes thanks for the tip and all you do 👍🔥✌️
With the ceramic you still have to put some oil on it after cleaning? My first couple of smash burgers I didn’t even use oil with no sticking but 5-6 cooks in the burgers were sticking. I’m guessing you are using some oil? I used lard for the buns and everything was sticking after that. Will not use lard again. Did finally clean up with the baking soda. Thank You
Thank you so much for watching Bobby! We are learning a lot with these machines. We have found that actually no oil seems to be best, unless a cook calls for it.. these things are pretty non stick… we do experience sticking sometimes, but that will happen when you add something cold to a really hot surface… we just keep cooking.😁 Griddle ok brother!!!❤️🤙
Thanks for the how to videos. I just bought one of the Sierras and cooked on it for the 1st time this morning. My bacon stuck to it a little even after the burn off. I cleaned it and put a thin layer of Olive Oil. Is that the correct oil to use?
Thank you so Fam! This method should also work for the e-series - we researched this method for ceramic cookware, and it seems to be the safest deep clean method. Cheers!🤙🤙
I have a question? Isnt baking soda a very abrasive compound? Would i want to use that on my grill? It seems to that it would over time take the nonstick surface off my griddle.
Thank you so for watching, we did extensive research before we used baking soda - it’s one of the top recommended items used to clean ceramic cookware. 🤙🤙
Thank you so much for watching! No, the soap will remove the seasoning layer - we have both a “how to season” and a “how to clean” Blackstone videos though!🤙🤙
Thank you so much for watching! Actually after the first clean off, you do not want to use soap and water for the Blackstone - only oil to reseason and clean. We do actually have a video on how to clean the Blackstone as well. Hope this helps fam!!
Thank you so much for watching! The griddle surface is virtually the same, only the aesthetics vary (aside from surface dimensions I believe). Hope this helps fam!!🔥🔥
Thank you so much for watching! While you can, I typically use the cool griddle and use hot water, I’d worry about burning the baking soda. Hope this helps!!🤙🤙
Great video. I noticed that you gave it a bit of seasoning after the clean. Can you advise if this is necessary and what kind of oil did you season with and how often. Thank you
Hi Mary! Actually, with these units, they are ceramic, so no seasoning is on it. The leftover that looks like seasoning is actually the ceramic top. One of the reasons we love these things. If we use oil, it’s just for cooking, not seasoning.🤗 we hope that helps! Thank you so much for watching Mary! Griddle on sister!!!😁❤️🤙
Recently purchased the 4 burner ultimate lift off griddle and after just a few cooks, food is sticking and staining. The owners manual only recommended wiping down and a 15 minute burn off, which I did. Pitboss was awesome and sent me a new griddle top, but I am scared that it will start sticking again. Can you recommend what I need to do before 1st cook and cleanup after I cook on it and whether or not to use oil to prevent sticking?
Thank you so much for watching! We found that just a clean off before first use was sufficient - in fact, with the 2nd unit we got, we didn’t even do a burn off - just soap and water to clean it. We didn’t get any sticking for many cooks!🔥🔥
Have you ever tried white vinegar baking soda and water. Really lifts the grease stains on my composite granite sink. Wondering how it would work on that griddle?
Thank you so much fam! No, you would not want to do this for the Blackstone, as this would remove the seasoning layer you create. Here’s a cleaning video I did a while back for the Blackstone! ruclips.net/video/4z50gsoKpVo/видео.html
I've only had mine about 2 months now. I absolutely love my Sierra. I was just wondering where you guys picked up your silicone scraper from? I really want one as she had nice. It works for yours. I've been going through a paper towels like crazy because I'm afraid of scratching it. Thank you for the video. It truly is amazing to see how you actually do deep clean this thing and it make it look pretty again. 🙂 Is is there a way to clean the outside of it to make it look pretty also?
Great video guys. I know your sponsored by pit boss but I was wondering what are things you just do not like about the new griddles? What should they fix in ver 2? Thx
Thank you so much for watching and for the question! Pit Boss is a great sponsor but has made it clear they want us to be honest! Our main concern honestly is how this will hold up over time. We have 60+ cooks on it and it’s doing an incredible job! Otherwise, it’s got some issues we’ve had with the Blackstone - “hot spots” and times when the food will seem to just stick! Also, the tempo does drop a bit once food is added, but doesn’t take long to come back up. If we did smashburgers, we need to wait a minute before we do a second round. Hope this helps fam!🤙🤙
Great question - the deep clean has always worked for us, but we’ve also had others suggest aside from the baking soda, to use vinegar, which can also dissolve the stains. Hope this helps fam!🤙🤙
@@waltwins thanks fellas. I used vinegar and still couldn't get it. I'm kinda at a loss. I'm not having sticking issues or anything just trying to get it back to square one.
@@lucaswolfert8074 that’s crazy, sorry fam! The good thing is that the food isn’t sticking. Have you called Pit Boss customer service? They have been great with advice! I will say, one of the times I was working on a dark spot, I did the baking soda method, but it didn’t get the whole “stain” off, so I got more hot soapy water and a bit of baking soda, and scrubbed small sections at a time. It took a lot more effort and I got a work out, but it eventually all came out.
Have you ever used the green and yellow scotch pads or is the scrub daddy best. I already own scotch brite pads but happy to buy a scrub daddy if the scotch is too abrasive?
Do you only use a certain kind of oil on the Sierra? I got a super clearance deal for $150 a few months ago at Walmart. Looks like they discontinued this model? Bummer I like it.
So I'll ask (because I may or may not make the jump over😉) The dark spots pre-cleaning... Does it cook different or drop in non stick qualities in these areas? But it does look super easy to refresh!
Haha! Great question! Over time, it can get more “sticky.” Some get concerned because of the discoloration, but I only deep clean when I find it’s sticking more. Hope this helps brother!!🔥🔥
Hey guys! Have been watching your channel for quite some time now and love your videos! I am in need of some serious advice! Please help in any way if possible. I let someone use my pit boss ceramic griddle (wife bought for me for my bday in august). After that person used it there is food sticking EVERYWHERE! The little brown bits that are stuck to the griddle top are just not coming off. I’m scared it is messed up! I’m kind of new to all of this too. I have tried baking soda and warm/hot water, also baking soda and lemon juice. Should I let it sit longer? Is there more elbow grease needed. Please help!
Hey fam! We get it! Okay - I’ve done the baking soda process several times. Here is what worked best: Apply hot soapy water to the griddle, followed by baking soda to create a paste. Let it sit for 30-40 minutes. Use a scrub sponge and “elbow” grease and scrub it down. Use some water and the silicone scraper to wipe clear. If spots persist, reapply the soapy water/baking soda, and let sit a few minutes. Scrub the stubborn spots. One time I pulled the top inside and did this for about an hour, but got it looking brand new! Try this and let me know if you still have issues!! Feel free to shoot us an email too if it helps with communication! adamandbtettw@gmail.com Or on FB or Instagram messenger! Good luck fam!
Hey there, my husband and his buddy cooked steaks last night that had been marinated, and the marinade left lava like hard bits baked/welded onto my surface. 🙄 I've only tried water and soft sponge like yours, but it hasn't worked. Do you think this may work?
It may, but even better - I’d turn the heat to low, and as it gets hot, squirt the surface with water to pull up those hard bits. Not sure how, but it works!😂😂. Then, hot soapy water and a scrubby sponge. Let us know if this works!
@WALTWINS I noticed that you use oil after you are finished cleaning the ceramic surface. Now would you say oil is necessary when using the ceramic cooktop? I did ask Pit Boss this & they said, no. Also, do you typically use oil or cooking spray before you start cooking too?
Thank you so much for watching! We don’t anymore - this was done according to the Pit Boss instructions, but something we no longer do (as it’s ceramic). 🤙🤙
Looks clean enough to eat off of it. Haha. We need to get together soon. Adam when are you you coming back to this side of the state? I'll have to meet up with yall at Brett's flavor fort.
Hey guys! So do you prefer the 5 burner ultimate or the Sierra and why? I am looking at purchasing the 5 burner or the 4 burner ultimate and not sure which way I want to go, but I feel like the Sierra is pretty similar to the 4 burner so I wanted to get your opinion! Thanks!
Oh wow!! What an excellent question!! We absolutely love both, but it’s crazy you ask this - the 5 burner is amazing, and there’s nothing negative to say acing it, but we love the liftoff feature and I just told Brett this morning, and along with the Sierra, I’d really like a 4 burner! 😂😂🔥🔥
Awesome! My husband is a taller guy, 6 ft 3, do you find the extra height in the 5 burner to be a pro or is it unnoticeable compared to the Sierra? Have you you found yourself using the lift off feature often?
@@lindseyjackowicz5807 oh, it is noticeable for sure - if he’s taller, it may be worth it to go with the 5 burner - we used the Blackstone air fryer combo for 2 years and noticed the difference in the Sierra - but for us at 5 9” - it wasn’t too bad..😂. Is there a place that carries both that you can check (Camping World maybe?!)
Thanks for the info . I have had a Blackstone E-Series Electric from day one and it is worse than that one of yours ! I cook at least one meal everyday on it ! Publix has different Scrub Daddys listed . Which model did you use ?? Thank You Very Much
Hey fam!! Either should work! The “scrubby” side should be safe with ceramic - I dod some research before I ever cleaned this - is the Blackstone e-series also ceramic? This method should totally work then too!! Let me know brother!!
Thank you so much for watching, in doing extensive research, the baking soda method was the most recommended as a safe way to clean the stains on a ceramic surface and to restore the nonstick. Take care fam!🤙🤙
My biggest concern with using baking soda is it's abrasive qualities...are y'all worried about the baking soda eroding the ceramic coating? Honestly, I'm genuinely curious about this On a slightly different note, I deep clean my ceramic coated cast iron dutch oven with a very diluted water/bleach solution..fill it to the brim and let it soak overnight and the stains disappear...I'm willing to bet it would work on the ceramic griddle too! Maybe spray and let it sit for an hour then wipe clean?? I'd love to hear y'all opinion on this
Thank you for watching and the honest question! When we first started to use the Pit Boss griddles, we did extensive research. Baking soda is one of the main items recommended repeatedly as a safe method for cleaning ceramic cookware. We’ll continue to research for sure, as we never want to lead people astray, but this method has proven to be perfect! Cheers!🤙🤙
Good video brothers ! But ,,, when I clean mine. Me and my rubber duckie. Take it in the bath tub to clean it ( lol ) hope you know that was a joke... Thank you Frank from montana....

Thank you so much fam! No, you would not want to do this for the Blackstone, as this would remove the seasoning layer you create. Here’s a cleaning video I did a while back for the Blackstone!

Thanks very much!!
Hope this helps fam!🤙🤙
how do you level the cooking surface? when i do eggs they just run to the bottom right away
So I have a large ring that has gotten dark. I've do e 2 deep cleans and can't get it off. Any suggestions?
@@waltwins I'll try the small spots at a time
Have you ever used the green and yellow scotch pads or is the scrub daddy best.
@@waltwins You always help!
Here is what worked best:
Apply hot soapy water to the griddle, followed by baking soda to create a paste.

Or on FB or Instagram messenger!
Good luck fam!
Hey there, my husband and his buddy cooked steaks last night that had been marinated, and the marinade left lava like hard bits baked/welded onto my surface. 🙄
I've only tried water and soft sponge like yours, but it hasn't worked.
Why did you oil it afterwards?
Thank you so much for watching! We don’t anymore - this was done according to the Pit Boss instructions, but something we no longer do (as it’s ceramic). 🤙🤙
@@waltwins Thank you for your quick response. I thought it was strange putting oil on ceramic
@@waltwins Love my PB 4 burner
Looks clean enough to eat off of it. Haha. We need to get together soon. Adam when are you you coming back to this side of the state? I'll have to meet up with yall at Brett's flavor fort.
Woot woot!! Yessir!! I’m back up there the last weekend of the month!!🔥🔥
The only thing I would worry about is the baking soda somehow scratching the ceramic. But maybe it’s not strong enough to do that.
Thank you so much for watching, in doing extensive research, the baking soda method was the most recommended as a safe way to clean the stains on a ceramic surface and to restore the nonstick. Take care fam!🤙🤙
@@waltwins appreciate the input. I’ll give it a try on mine and see how it goes. First cook on mine tomorrow !
If youve never had to 'reseason' or redo a blackstone top. This is NOTHING compared to redoing a rusted steel cooking top.
Lol, great point. It’s a much simpler process - is that what you are getting at?🤙🤙
@@waltwins Correct. Coming out of winter, or after a few weeks of cooking on a cold rolled steel top that is covered in rust is a real process.
I got this for $80 from a local walmart. It was on clearance.
Wow, that’s incredible!! Congratulations on the new griddle fam!🔥🔥
My biggest concern with using baking soda is it's abrasive qualities...are y'all worried about the baking soda eroding the ceramic coating? Honestly, I'm genuinely curious about this
On a slightly different note, I deep clean my ceramic coated cast iron dutch oven with a very diluted water/bleach solution..fill it to the brim and let it soak overnight and the stains disappear...I'm willing to bet it would work on the ceramic griddle too!
Cheers!🤙🤙
Baking poda??😂😂😂😂
Haha!! Yup! Only way to do it!!😂😂
Good video brothers ! But ,,, when I clean mine. Me and my rubber duckie. Take it in the bath tub to clean it ( lol ) hope you know that was a joke... Thank you Frank from montana....
Haha!! You could totally take a bath with this griddle top brother!!😂😂🔥🔥
Don't have to do this on steel. Just use and reoil. Great video nonetheless. Keep on gridleing?.
Thanks fam, correct, but also far less time than stripping a reseasoning - something we had to do and have a video of on our Blackstone.😂😂. Cheers!🤙🤙
is it better than the Blackstone?
Thank you so much for watching! They are both incredible machines, it kind of depends on preference. For us, we love the nonstick surface of the Pit Boss. Hope this helps fam!🤙🤙
Why do I clean me teeth like this? Let's use borax. just kidding. Where is my wire wheel? HUM same problems with the Blackstone. I am just goofing tonight. Griddle on.
Haha!! Heck yes fam!!😂😂. Love it for sure, Borax for the win!!😂😂🔥🔥
It’s suppose to be easy breezy, who lies lying?
What?🤔
I am trying to listen, dude
No idea what you mean fam.
