It's because the government made them change which kind of refrigerant they used, because global warming lies. I heard they had to make a bigger condenser and it didn't leave room to have the cooler, and maybe they didn't want to spend on redesign or whatever the fix would be, after all being the last couple model years.

Thanks to you and your time an effort in this video, I Completed this mod on my 2021 Tundra and the results were outstanding! With the thermostat pinned open I was unable to get a temp greater than 187 while in tow/haul mode with an outside temp of 95 here in South Carolina. Now I was trying my best and driving hard. With it unpinned in normal thermostat mode, 190 degrees was the highest I could achieve. As comparison to yesterday before the install is was 94 degrees outside and I would achieve 209 degrees in normal around town driving. I ordered the parts OE parts from Sparks and a Derale Hyper cool from eTrailer. As far as I could tell, the fan didn’t cycle until I pulled in my driveway and put it in park and heat soak finally triggered the fan thermostat which is set for turning on around 185 and off at 177. Would of bought the Genuine Cool kit, but a day late and dollar short. Great mod what ever route you go. Thanks

Great video! I watched it twice and then used it as reference during the install that took me about 3 1/2 hours. I moved the thermostat pin so that gravity couldn't pull it out (I thought this was kind of weak.), but after reading the comments I am going to go pull it out. Can't wait to monitor temps the next time I pull our travel trailer. Guessing I won't see 263 F again!

I was blown away. Toyota did not have a transmission cooler on the 2019 to 2021 Tundra.

Needed the same thing, went a different direction to achieve similar result. Running 35” tires so I re-geared to 5.29 Nitro Gears. Now I can turn these tires like they are stock size and my transmission stays much cooler due to gear difference. OBDII shows consistently low transmission temps even while towing. Obviously this costs a lot more money, but I took care of two issues at once.

The holes in the right side of the transmission where the ATF flows into the heater are threaded. You can remove the factory heater, and thread in two 3/8” nipples, run the hose to the front and connect it to an aux trans cooler. A Derale 13011 bypass will keep it from over-cooling the fluid in winter temps. And much cheaper than the factory kit.

Super job on this video. I purchased a 21 - had to go to Kansa to get the one I wanted - I'm in Texas. I'm in the big city and we must have theft protection for the catalytic converters - two were stolen in our church parking lot in the middle of the day a week ago. Both vehicles were Toyota's with a higher profile. I purchased the theft protection plate from KW at Offroad Desert Eagle - he has sold many of these over the last 12 years. KW did let me know that he has done all he can to give good ventilation for the catalytic converters but....there would be higher temps experienced and that could impact transmission oil temps - especially in Texas. I will be towing a 4.5K trailer with the Tundra and decided with the trailer towing and "cat" protection - the installation of the transmission cooler is a good idea. I wish I would have found your video sooner - I had already purchase several items from Sparks and a Hayden cooler from Parts Geek. The kit would have saved me from finding these parts! Still having a problem finding the right "hard line" set. Of course - I must choose a 2018 part as the 21 does not have it on the truck but it appears there are at least two choices of hard lines. If you have a part number or someone does - I would appreciate it. Thanks again - very informative.

I have a 2010 Tundra 4.6 4x4 I noticed transmission temperatures as high as 260 degrees while towing small boat and averaged 215 -225 degrees during regular driving around town by myself. I added a thermostat with aftermarket cooler high temp lines. The thermostat opens at 185 degrees and while towing it gets no higher and 188 degrees. I should’ve installed one long ago, Toyota kept telling me it could not be done. If you tow or carry heavy loads it’s well worth it.

How do i get the app to stop adding "speed" every time I go to add trans temp guage ? It literally changes it from trans temp to speed ? I have a 2019

  • @SchafferTwins

Clarification please. What cycles the fluid into the cooler and where is the air going? Is that what is pushing out the excess fluid when you are draining at the end, as the air comes back front the cooler? It's then a closed system again once you pull the pin till it reaches what temp for the thermostat to open? Great video by the way. Looks like my brother and I could tackle this project on my 2019 TRD.
