    Also - to those of you who are terrified - I was too. I was absolutely petrified of labor & delivery. But, I got through it. It's okay, I promise you can do it - & you WILL surprise yourself in how well you handle it. And if you're afraid of the placement of the epidural (I really was) - it's WAY easier than you think. I couldn't believe how not-horrible that part was. And mine didn't work well, but the insertion was nowhere near as scary as I thought it would be. You can do this.

    Can you talk a bit about maternal mortality rates? This is a topic that sometimes flares up as a fear for me and to my understanding it’s more common than it should be considering our modern medical practices. I’ve heard speculation that newer obstetricians have been trained more on infant care right after birth so maternal care gets neglected sometimes and hemorrhaging, heart conditions, or eclampsia complications can go unnoticed. I would just like more facts from an OB’s perspective if you ever feel like doing a video on it :)

    So glad I came across this video. Feels like this answers all the questions that bothered me for a long time but too scared to ask😅

    I’m expecting our first and I’m not so scared of delivery being that docs and nurses will be on hand. But I am scared of the healing process after! Tearing/infection, healing the muscles to be able to run and exercise again!

      So true, I have to admit I share being nervous about being able to be as active as I was before after 6 weeks of rest, since exercise is so important to me. But I see so many do this without a problem and it just takes time and patience, it took 9 months to get there, it takes a while to recover too!

      So scared about all of these too! More scared of healing and ability to feel comfortable moving/being active again, than of the actual birth.

    Loved the Q&A format! Few ideas for questions if you ever choose to do another one!!
    - Do you see a clinical difference between boy and girl pregnancies?
    - Could you go over the statistics of various interventions? Are interventions more or less common?

    Explain discharge specifically, i.e. from vagina or bladder or…. Yes, poo! I waited til you got to this topic to see what you said. Yes, I believe doctors are used to it, but my husband wasn’t. I was moved out of a birthing room to the hallway and looked behind to see what was left. Ugh.

    Can you potentially discuss swelling in pregnancy in more detail? I've been having REALLY bad water retention in my whole body - especially my feet, ankles, legs, belly, & hands for months & months on end before I got pregnant now for the third time (this will be my second live birth if all goes well though, we lost our first at 12-13 weeks.) And I suspect, because so far doctors have found no other answer, that my IUD was causing it - I think progesterone just makes me swell badly. My last pregnancy, I was SOOOOO, SO, SO swollen, my doctor was *SHOCKED* that I was that swollen without preeclampsia, & said she'd never seen anything like it. And that time, that started about when your progesterone spikes around 28-30 weeks. So, yeah, now, I just found out a week ago that I'm pregnant again, now I'm just under 5 weeks and I'm EXTREMELY concerned that the swelling is going to get so out of control. I'm really nervous. So, if there's anything I can do to reduce that, I'd be so grateful to know. I've been trying to drink a ton of water & I have started exercising, because I was pretty low-activity before (bad back) - & it kind of helps a little, but not enough. I'm really concerned. But, I can't go to an OB until I'm at least 10+ weeks where I live & with the insurance I have.

    Can you answer more about emergency c sections? Like what calls for one and how to handle that as a patient? I’m 8 months and a little nervous about if something goes wrong and they had to do that

    I had a doctor once ask me why I don't get rid of my pubic hair, and she suggested I remove it, because of the risk of mites or lice. Aka she implied it was unhygienic. Luckily, no other health care professional has ever said anything like that to me since then, but I felt really uncomfortable after that visit. Not to mention, her "medical advice" was inaccurate.

    • @dr.martaperez
      @dr.martaperez  4 года назад +1

      Oh my gosh! That is horrendous and that person was WRONG. So glad you are not with that healthcare provider anymore!

    • @informedbeauty
      @informedbeauty 4 года назад

      @@dr.martaperez yeah, I'm not a doctor, but I have a health care background and her advice seemed really off. Not to mention, it's a great way to alienate a patient, and erode away at any rapport. I would imagine showering regularly, and getting tested for STIs would reduce the risk of something like pubic hair mites/lice. And I know there's a protective component to pubic hair, in terms of protecting the genital area from certain things.

    Maybe too specific but, if you only have one ovary it’s my understanding that it will just go into overdrive and ovulate every month now. Which is great especially if ttc. But if it does that, does that mean you’ll reach menopause sooner? So is your fertility window shorter?

    • @fighttheevilrobots3417
      @fighttheevilrobots3417 2 года назад

      I'm not a doctor but maybe I can offer some assistance here. My mother was born with one fallopian tube, one ovary, and one kidney. This was likely due to a vanishing twin in utero. She was told that she experienced menopause two or three times...once in her early thirties, one in her forties, and again at age 50. It's worth noting that she had my brother at age 22 with her first husband and me at age 38 with her second, my father.

    Could you do a video on paps during pregnancy? I've never had an abnormal pap and have had them regularly since I was 18, and this one I had at 12 weeks came up with positive hpv and am currently pregnant with twins. The nurse on the phone said jt could just be due to increased level of hormones and depressed immune system. Im freaking out and have a colposcopy scheduled for Monday. 😩

    • @dr.martaperez
      @dr.martaperez  4 года назад

      I don't have a video on that specifically, be sure to write down all the questions you have to be able to discuss with your doctor!

      Hello, i had a colposcopy done when i was 14 weeks & it didn't effect anything.
      Was not painful at all , just a bit uncomfortable. My GP said it wouldn't affect anything and recommended i had it done asap.
      Hope all went well with yours.
      Take care 🤗

      Not everyone notices it so I wouldn't consider it abnormal if one hasn't noticed an icnrease.
