I hate to change blades. You gave several great tips on using a ruler. I am just getting comfortable cutting everything out at once. I change my mind so often. But I am seeing the reason behind all at once. You are so awesome. I love your enthusiasm. And how youndint screech . And you are you. Not fake and you dont repeat the same words over and over. You are not condescending. Thank you.
This was really informative. Thank you. I never learned this from the beginning. Accurate cutting is imperative. Now if I could just get the “scant” part of sewing 1/4” seam, I’ll have half a chance. //. Love your vibe. It’s so nice that you enjoy yourself. I’m still amazed you skate around. You don’t bother keeping up with the Joneses, you keep up with your kids!
Rob - fantastic video & great info. Love your style, your enthusiasm, your energy, your skill. But buddy - breathe from time to time😉 You rock - nothing but the best in your new direction. Love ya!! PS - More Bootsie Marengo?😉
what a great refresher and brilliant tips! Sometimes I get confused with my cutting because I tend to switch between the measurements on the mat then on the ruler. And of course as one is focused on looking at the lines doing the cutting you often do forget to move your hands to keep the ruler straight lol. Am loving your new channel xx
Donna Jordan uses a five pound weight at the top of her long rulers to cut without shift. It really works great. I also make sure that one finger (little one, duh) is off the edge of the ruler to help eliminate shift of that ruler as I move when cutting.
Rob, i really like this make it fun series! I can tell you are excited and a little bit nervous about this new adventure your on , First you can not go wrong with Michael Miller fabrics, he always comes out with something for everyone. I do have one suggestion, why not dress your fun guy to match what your talking about. For instance you were talking about rulers today, so make him a costume as a ruler. Just a thought from a admirer.
Love the tip showing us not to start cutting at the end of the ruler - brilliant. I put a weight at the end of my ruler to help me hold it (I’m very short and this helps when I can’t reach).
Rob Awesome video. Would love one on how to accurately measure long strips aka for borders when using the mat with no numbers.Do you prefer the sew them all together and just cut once sewn onto the quilt method vs measuring and cutting each one separately?
Jim Thornton let me see if Olfa has the clear mat for sale yet. Might have been a prototype, oops. However, flip any Olfa Green mat over and use the back, been doing that for years with my free cutting.
Good video- If you can, add a couple more lights to your studio? I admit that I miss the brightness from the Man Sewing days. Brightness meaning physical camera lighting- your personality is fabulous-cheery, great. Seeing contrast can be hard when a mat or the fabric are closer in color. Otherwise, good video. There are more shadows on your face that could be offset with a white nylon reflector umbrella?
I use a large size can of vegetables as my weight when cutting long strips. Stopped the drift. Then when I am done I make dinner. It is a two-pher; quilting and eating. Yeah!
Thx Rob for all the info you donate to us very much appreciated from Ontario Canada🇨🇦

Thank you so much for the kind feedback!
A great reminder of how to take care of your rules and use correctly.
Thanks, I think we all can learn something new everyday.
Just rediscovered you Thanks for all the great tips, most of all closing your blade after cutting. Open blades are my biggest pet peeve
Glad you are here, I try to be good about closing cutters, but love the auto close style

Mike likes to go cowboy, and really has a mind of his own. It is all I can do to get him to show up to work on time.

Then we both have shared great ideas, thank you!

Could you provide a link to that mat with no numbers? I've been looking for one for the very reasons you state.

Thanks I will give that a try, the lighting is still a challenge for sure.
