I met Bob Gaudio (he's playing piano) while running cross country in highschool. His house was along our route in Oradell NJ. He was always very nice so in my senior year we were looking for a way to raise money to defer the cost of our prom. Well without much thinking I stopped one day and asked him if the Four Seasons would do a free concert at my school. He agreed and 3 months later they showed up and did the concert, no contract just a handshake. Try that today!!
Oh those great pop-rock bands participating in producing some of the most memorable and classic tunes from the 1960's top 40 format. I can recall those little transistor radios playing these great songs from the Four Seasons and Herman's Hermits along with so many other talented groups and individual artists. If we could only go back today to this style of music, how great would that be.
What a great live performance on Hullabaloo by both the Four Seasons and Hermans Hermits. I love the way the Seasons segwayed into going from Toy Soldier to Bye, Bye Baby, Baby Goodbye!
Frankie deserves all the credit in the world for that unique voice and feeling... but hey those Four Seasons had some tight harmonies! In my book they are ALL superstars...
This sure sounds live- no tracks, and they are singing their asses off. They may have pre-recorded their own tracks earlier in the day as these shows did with performers...loved Herman's Hermits; too. I had the pleasure of knowing Lek Leckenby, their lead guitarist, a great guy, and killer player. R.I.P. Lek.
Wow, Hulabaloo, we watched that show and also Shindig back in '65. Tne came "Batman" and "I Spy". Grew up with the "Seasons" way before the English Invasion changed it all, great times, glad I was there.
Frou Seasons, Real talent I mean. Come on, the Jersey Boys Musical/story based on them? Base don super talent and these guys paid their dues for years before they made it big.
This was before Nick Massi was replaced by Joe Long. I don't know them by their appearance but because Massi played bass righthanded, and Long played bass lefthanded.
Frankie sounds a whole lot better in his live recordings especially how he sung ''Toy Solder'' here...I wish there was a full recording of him singing it just like this. His studio recordings were good but his voice just sounds much cleaner here.
"The soldier poor boy don't come home to be broken like a toy" (2:40), sadly prophetic words with US forces in Vietnam reaching 180,000 in the year 1965.
I can't resist Herman's smiles, but I like the 4 Seasons too. Two very different groups, but if I had to choose one over the other it's definitely Herman's Hermits for me!
Nick Massi + Bob Gaudio + Tomi DeVito + Frankie Valli = ....well, there really are no words to explain the magnitude of what they equal......

Nice to see The Four Seasons with the original members. That was the last year Nick Massi was with them.
Frankie's voice has to be one of the top 5 most recognizable in music history, it's legendary.
Killer transition from Toy Soldier to Bye Bye Baby. Man, these guys were great vocalists.

Such a great clip of Frankie Valley really belting it out at the top if his game...so young.

back when they really sang in front of fans instead of lip syncing .. awesome!

Chad Louis agree
# 1 group. Long live Frankie Valli & the 4 seasons. Just like James Day & the Fish Fry...

"The soldier poor boy don't come home to be broken like a toy" (2:40), sadly prophetic words with US forces in Vietnam reaching 180,000 in the year 1965.

Love this music - hey doesn't Frankie Valli look like Antonio Villaraigosa the mayor of Los Angeles?

I would think if you like Bieber you could appreciate 4 Seasons.
didn't the Hermits also play Henery the Eighth at Hullabaloo? Or was that on a different episode?
The host reminds me of Jimmy Barret from Mad Men haha
