Correct, it does work only with the Japanese towers. There is an app available through the Apple and Google Stores that produce radio waves that will cause the watch to automatically set the time. You just don't have the convenience of it being automatic in the sense that the watch searches for the signal at certain times during the day. Besides the green and black dials, there is a blue dial with a red seconds hand (which I have en-route as of this post). I had no problems finding these watches in the $335-450 USD range.

I own one of these watches. The atomic doesn't matter, they are VERY easy to set. You just pull the Crown right out, and the seconds hand will automatically go to the '12' position. Then, when setting it by the correct time (which is easy to find), just wait for correct time to reach the '12' position, and push the Crown back in, it's that easy! I’m so glad my OCD isn’t so bad I worry about .5mm one way or another...at least regarding watches at least. Being just a normal Joe, I’ll round up to 40mm.
That is one great looking watch. I wonder if the coating is a variant of the Ti-nitride coating they put on metal cutting tools to extend the cutting life. And that does work. All the best

MM K, Yes, the analog display consumes more power than a purely digital display with a timeout feature. Still, this should not be an issue unless you routinely cover your watch with a dress shirt sleeve, in which case it will be deprived of access to a light source. This watch appears to have a charge display feature on the face, which is a real help. My more basic Citizen eco-drive does not have this feature, and the clue I will receive if and when the battery runs low is that the seconds hand will tick in 2 or 4 second increments instead of 1 second increments. Sorry, I don't remember the exact low battery increment; I have not yet had a low battery experience.
@@ivermec-tin666 The H/M/L is actually not for battery charge level, it's for how strong the radio signal is. I think. I haven't read through every page in the manual yet... I do know it has the 2-second increment low power warning feature though.
@@dustingaddis2423 Hmmm... that's odd. On the gshock hml refers to the charge level. One would expect that radio tower synchronization would be binary, successful/unsuccessful. A medium indication is counter intuitive, imo. But, anything is possible; they did put "tough movmt" on the dial...
Citizen doesn't seem to have servos to change the date, I was playing with my Chrono-Time AT and changed all the settings including the date, then did a manual sync. The 60 minute subdial would spin 5x to flip the date so it took a while, at least it didn't have to actually cycle through each day, it would've taken forever.
If they combined this with the Promaster Tough somehow. Not a fan of the black bezel or the Arabic numerals. Prefer the red second hand from the Tough. However, I like the day date perpetual calendar, and the diver extension clasp.
Is this watch rated as a Dive watch for 200 m at around 400 to 500 US $, please also highlight the eco drive system Specifications. Looks like a perfect overall Dress and Sports watch. Titanium Watches are very light, practical and comfortable at the same time.
Lume comparison with a monster on an skx would've been helpful. It seems very bright considering you didn't really charge it with a flashlight, or did you?
Nice review. I just canceled my order for one because I finally realized it has a black PVD bezel, which is a bit odd. Hard to tell in photos. Did that ever bother you or turn you off?
I’d want one IF the radio tower functionality worked in the US. Another review mentioned the difficulty of setting the time outside of Japan because the crown isn’t mechanical but electronic. Too bad.
I so wish it had cicular or stick, instead of arabic hour markers. I also would't mind a non RC movement. Other than that it's perfect. For once a ~Ø40mm from Citizen! Guess I might have to put aside that preference and just get it anyways 😊
Do these radio-waves work in deep valleys or on the other side of mountain ranges in relation to the transmitters? There are only a couple of transmitters per continent. But do these send signals out to a network of transmitters, or are they the only ones sending the signal? Too many questions I can't find the answers to about RC watches.
Nice review. I just received mine and have it on a fabric strap. I don't consider the lume very good, certainly not up Seiko performance. That said, I do like the watch, readability is great.
Unfortunately, most (if not all) Citizen Promaster Land radio-control watches do not receive the USA time signal because they are Japan Domestic Market (JDM) only watches that are not marketed by Citizen to its' North American watch market - although there are some Citizen (non-Promaster Land) JDM radio-control watches that do receive the USA time signal.
@@cdtroyer1 . The Citizen Mont-Bell watch is one of the few Citizen JDM radio-control watches (the Citizen Atessa ATV53-2834 watch is another) that can receive the USA time signal from WWVB. I’m so glad my OCD isn’t so bad I worry about .5mm one way or another...at least regarding watches at least. Being just a normal Joe, I’ll round up to 40mm.
There are some nice JDM watches out there.
Thanks Rob. This video caused me to have to get one of these. I love it.
I liked it so much, I got another one in another color.
That is one great looking watch. I wonder if the coating is a variant of the Ti-nitride coating they put on metal cutting tools to extend the cutting life. And that does work. All the best
I prefer the more tooly look and kevlar strap of the Citizen "Ray Mears" 2018 300 mtrs. That domed Crystal is very nice.
There’s a 2018 version? I got my original in 2000 before it was given the Ray Mears reference and would like a new Kevlar strap for it. After my second original strap it was unavailable. I’m going searching now!
@@hollowaysteve Sorry for my late answer. It is still available only in the UK. In blue and black. The strap kevlar itself is relatively expensive to buy. It has been my go to watch ever since I bought it. Want the blue one as well. Made me reconsider and sell most of my mechanical watches. Tired of babying them at crazy service costs.
Citizen BN0118-04E
Cool piece
Random “I’m not going to do it for you” Rob 😂
Amazing watch!
Solid choice
I like the citizen 8180.
that one looks cool
Beautiful watch, I love Citizens, But 500 bucks...!!
Love it, not many reviews on thisi one.
Very nice watch!
A great every day watch
Interesting watch! Thanks for sharing
Citizen watches are the best in the world!
Thanks for the review of an interesting watch.
man that looks good rob!
This is the Sarb033 of the Citizen Brand.
Man, these are really expensive! I was surprised...
I like it nice watch
Great looking watch. Excuse my ignorance but in general terms, would analog watch with quartz movement deplete battery sooner that digital?
Good question, never really thought about that.
Any european version came out recently?
I am torn between this and the Satellite Wave model [CC-3060 family]. Which one is the better buy?
Citizen doesn't seem to have servos to change the date, I was playing with my Chrono-Time AT and changed all the settings including the date, then did a manual sync. The 60 minute subdial would spin 5x to flip the date so it took a while, at least it didn't have to actually cycle through each day, it would've taken forever.
Great looking watch for sure .
That jumpy seconds hand makes me jumpy just looking at it.
I've had mechanical, non quartz watches for too long now.
Haha, embrace the tick tock bro
Mine just arrived, but the minute hands does not hit the marks... didnt expected that. and the A button is wobbly
Let’s see that green-faced drill in the background! What is that beauty!?
Huh? The Sinn?
Random Rob - Is it? It looks awesome, even blurred. Great video by the way, as always Rob.
Everyday watch system 😎.
This watch really appeals to me, but is a little on the expensive side.
Cool watch
iOS Android app can wave simulated radio control.
Although JDM, if I understood correctly (from Seiyajapan) this version is the only one made in Japan. The other color ways are not.
Just the studio lights from video.
I love Citizen watches so much more than Seiko. Seiko USED to be the standard...no more. poor QC.
Nice review. I just canceled my order for one because I finally realized it has a black PVD bezel, which is a bit odd. Hard to tell in photos. Did that ever bother you or turn you off?
It turned me on ❤
Why on JDM only watches is the writing on the dials in english and not Japanese? Just wondering
Because Citizen is not Seiko, the latter respects their japanese heritage more. Sorry, facts.
Jim Beam you can switch english to Japanese with the button
@@Bear-cp9yx Well at least Seiko do Kanji days for the date window... at least they used to
I need to stop watching your channel, I keep adding watches to a list! Great review, and yes, another one added to the list.
Should I buy one of this or the S100 or t200 Casio Oceanus?
I have a t200 oceanus. A good watch.
I’d want one IF the radio tower functionality worked in the US. Another review mentioned the difficulty of setting the time outside of Japan because the crown isn’t mechanical but electronic. Too bad.
Rob radio wave function is Japan only.
Good to know. I wasn’t sure if was same as multi band
That watch talks to Japans atomic radio only
Will this watch receive radio signals in Florida? Do they make different radio receiver versions for each continent?
No. Only Japan.
I so wish it had cicular or stick, instead of arabic hour markers. I also would't mind a non RC movement. Other than that it's perfect. For once a ~Ø40mm from Citizen!
Guess I might have to put aside that preference and just get it anyways 😊
where can I buy this watch? it is very amazing.
Perhaps these might answer your questions. www.nict.go.jp/en/pamphlet/JST2-e.pdf
or this... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JJY
Nice review. I just received mine and have it on a fabric strap. I don't consider the lume very good, certainly not up Seiko performance. That said, I do like the watch, readability is great.
where did you buy your model?
Hi, is radio controle realy working in Japan only?
Yes.
Да
Wow, this guy doesn't know much about this watch. Surprised he made a video.
Thanks for watching. Lol
Random Rob no problem. Glad I can help those in need. LOL
It should work on all towers, but not throug concrete ???
Hi Rob! Is the case back of this watch fixed or screwed in?
Look at 6:14 in video
Yeah it's perfect if you live in Japan.
Do you have the days in Spanish too?
Unfortunately, most (if not all) Citizen Promaster Land radio-control watches do not receive the USA time signal because they are Japan Domestic Market (JDM) only watches that are not marketed by Citizen to its' North American watch market - although there are some Citizen (non-Promaster Land) JDM radio-control watches that do receive the USA time signal.
The MontBell RC Citizen watch has all these features, and can receive signal in the US.
@@cdtroyer1 . The Citizen Mont-Bell watch is one of the few Citizen JDM radio-control watches (the Citizen Atessa ATV53-2834 watch is another) that can receive the USA time signal from WWVB. Most Citizen JDM radio-control watches only receive the 2 time signals from JJY40 (Fukushima, Japan) and JJY60 (Kyushu, Japan). A drawback to the Mont-Bell watch, despite its' beautiful look and design, is that it is very expensive.
It’s about $75 more. No big deal.
Less than $600. Bargain.
@@cdtroyer1 At least 2 brand new, Citizen Promaster Mont Bell CB0177-58E, black PVD, titanium radio-control watches are being currently sold on Ebay for $800+!! That isn't peanuts! That sure ain't no bargain!
will the radio controll work in europe?
@@erikamstarkstenallein7564Verboten!!!
Jdm with english weekdays 🙄
Can I swim with this watch in the sea? Titanium and salt? Nothing will happen?
Sure
