    Yesterday you mentioned you added an egg to your radiator to make it to your destination . Lol that brought back memories of when my friend and I were on our way camping in NB we used all the eggs in our possession just to make the camp ground . The old Ford 302 comet purred like a kitten but spit fluid like a guyser. Fun times . 1972 was a good year . Oh it was a fishing trip but ended up as a fix and repair weekend . It was all good though . Thumbs-up Jolene 👍 and 👍 Chad in and out the engine goes time and again until it's all done you may have it out and in up to 5 to 8 times less or more determining how much modifications you put in it . 👍

    Bruised or cracked ribs are very pain full! Last Friday I fell for the third time in several years at the age of 68. Can take months to recover, meanwhile in constant pain just breathing. Sleeping is a nightmare. I'm in pain with you Jim, hang in there, you're are a great asset to Chad and Jolene, and I'm there with ya. I especially enjoy the shows where you are helping. Best of wishes my friend!

    I hope Jim sees a DR, cant take it for granted that you will just heal up. Been a tough winter for a lot of people. Too darn cold here in manitoba, and way more snow than i like. Projects didnt happen this winter because of the cold and snow. So its great to watch, keeps me thinking.
    I get the budget build thing. We arent all well off and able to throw endless money at a build. I respect the build it with what you got mentality.

    Put floor jack under trans tail so you can lift it to the desired height
    Before jacking it, remove the intake so you have a flat machined surface. Put a degree meter or level on the engine machined surface, read that. Jack the trans to the desire clearance then check the degree change. When you pull the engine, you can easily mock that up to be able modify your engine mounts to exactly what you want.
    Great job so far.

    I feel you about the ice & snow, making it almost impossible to get around. Just hunker down and stay warm!!
    I remember in the early 70s in Denver Colorado, we had about a foot of snow and 30 days of below freezing weather. We had packed snow turned to 6" of ice. The downtown streets had twin ruts from the cars. You had one choice: follow the ruts!
    But back to your build. I've said it before. You don't do big budget builds. You fabricate what you need to make it work.

    Run a straight edge across the two supports that hold the louvers, and run it up and down, wherever the straight edge hits is where it has to be clearanced. Awesome work, thoroughly enjoy it. Jolene has my votes. 👍

    hi chad & jolene. elvis is coming along. this part of the process is very critical, with all the clearances, angles, etc, but being very careful now will pay off in the end with a solid build. keep it up!!

    I just wonder how much the rubber engine mounts will give when you take off from a stop , is a 1/8" clearance going to be enough to stop the engine from rubbing on the louvers because that car is pretty heavy.

    Putting the engine wire harness on the engine is easier and faster with the engine OUT of the car. Everything is accessible. ie, starter, cam sensor, transmission connections etc. With the harness laid out on engine everything should line up. I have done engine harness swap outs on the same engine more times than I can count. I work for GM at the Fort wayne truck plant. Get well soon Jim. Love the show.

    Chad I noticed the motor is pushed back in to the firewall on Elves that car is going to handle like a train on rails with the engine placement grate job on that I’m not a Ford guy I’m a Chevy guy but I can’t wait for it to be finished and on the road for a drive keep up the good work guys and keep make these videos

    Loving this Mercury Chad.
    A support rib under the louver panel end near that firewall will stop the sag and also prevent it flexing and hitting the manifold whilst driving.
    You could put a slight convex roll to match the rear firewall profile and a a couple more support ribs on the underside mid panel to reduce the flex that will occur on that centre lover panel.
    Looks fantastic now.
    Waiting to see it painted.
    What colour will you do the engine bay.
    The coral would look good in my opinion.

    I'd shave the intake smooth (there are several videos on doing it) and paint it to match the car. Will look amazing & also give you quite abit more room under the louver panel

    Another cool video....yes that ice can definitely get ya if your not paying attention and careful and sometimes it gets ya anyways...hopefully Jim heals up soon and back on his feet...still pulling for jolene for jetsetter...probably right...$$$ getting involved...but anyways Elvis is coming along and it looks like everything fits like a glove...awesome job...cya tomorrow

    I'd put am old school LS conversion intake on this car. I think it would look more the part and give you plenty more clearance. I know you don"t want to throw a bunch of money at it, but I think the car is worth it and it would be well spent. Nice work BTW and I hope Jim gets to feeling better.

    The car is coming along nicely. I think it’s really going to be beautiful. I’m sorry to hear that Jim hurt himself. If I lived where you guys live, I would wear golf cleats whenever there was ice on the ground, and I would just change shoes when I came inside the shop or the house.

    Chad, just wanted to mention that I thought i saw the louvers hitting the intake manifold on the driver side about mid way back. it looked like it 13:45 in the video. just look right over top of the throttle body and when you press down i cannot see space and it appears to teeter. just thought it would mention it just in case.

    You and Jim both should get these pull on snow cleats for hikers , they have carbide ice spikes . My girlfriend got me a pair , theyre cheap and boy do they work . I too am getting older , those bruises last a little longer every year . The ice cleats work great and are easy on and off , like seconds .

    when you are out riding around look for a junk motor and trans that you can gut/ scrip out to use as a mock up with two different oil pans gutting the engine and tranny will make them lighter and easier to put in and out for mock ups and can set outside when not in use as they are only used for mock up you can also have stock exhaust manifolds set for a car and set for a truck which usually exit in different configurations for mock ups as well

    Is there a decorative cover that goes over the intake manifold? If there is your louvers won't fit. Secondly, the air intake tube that goes on the throttle body on the front of the manifold may also cause you some issues. I feel you need to have all the intake accessories mounted to see if you have room for your lever cover.

    Great feeling when a plan comes together. No matter how small the task, it all has to be done. May have to modify the louver pan but that's all part of building unique cars.

    'Ol Elvis looks pretty dang good all laid out like that. I am concerned when you raise the transmission up, that maybe your hood piece will not be in contact with the intake. We will see.

    Chad, weld your extension to the crossmember instead of the motor mount then if you ever need too change the motor mount you can.

    Get well Jim. Jolene you might want to try an expandable back brace for your back. They have an air pump that expands the brace and takes pressure off the disks. Works great for me when my back goes out.

    If you put your louvers in the brake and put a fine crease in them it will hold the center of the louvers up . Great job

    Love the work looks awsume you could modifiy the mounts on cross member to raise the engin rather than weld On the Motor Mounts

    So get the golf shoes out when you get outside on the ice, you and Jim and Jolean and sharpen those spikes , you can swap out the shoe's when you come inside. Tell Jim Vitamin d 3 and k2 and eat jello and cheese to get up and about quickly.Good luck 👍.

    Get well Jim, can't afford to be lying about. Car is progressing nicely, probably seems like slow progress, but that's usually the way these things go - it takes time to get over all the hurdles.

    Pitman arm is where the linkage attaches to the steering box or rack. I think this is a steering idler linkage. May be called something else in the HuS of A or Nova Scotia. Where people are experts at gingerly treading on ice ior frozen over ponds etc!!!

    Unless you do LS swaps for a living they are never truly easy. Only people that say they are have never actually done the swap. They’ve just watched a lot of videos of others who’ve done them. A lot goes into them and they’re not cheap either. With that said, this car is going to benefit greatly from the upgrade 🙂

    It's amazing everything that goes into engineering a car.. Because that's what he is doing hes not building a car hes engineering everything to work on the car one step at a time. And everything reflects on everything elso in everything else you move one thing it moves 10 others.

    Double check your distance between firewall and steering box to make sure a heim joint will fit. Looks to be a little tight. Im also confident you'll getr done.

    I'm sure you would have no problem building your own oil pan. Would be cool to see you build it. I was gonna say that if you don't weld those tabs, the engine would snap.

    You have a lot of 1/2" gaps during this install. That took some damn good eyeball measurements. Good job, Chad!

    Even though tightened the extension mount tabs will still move if knocked when removing the motor. Ideally you should tack weld them in position prior removing the motor. If not and the extensions are fully welded then it will cause issues later on reassembly.

    Hey chad why does the tab's on the engine mount that you had in your hand, that you used to explain that there was play available to tilt the transmission. Those tabs where the holes are drilled in them for the bolts, why does it appear that there is very little metal available on those taps? after the hole has been drilled in them. They look very skimpy, there is very little metal left for the bolt to go through afterwards. I don't think those motor mounts are very safe to be honest with you.
